The Nemesis Crusade +++ Oath Complete +++

Thanks for all the comments brothers,

@ChoooChoooTemplar - that dread was actually one of the easyer FW kits to clean and assemble, I'll even go so far as to say fun.

@Brother Cristopher - I would use bone white, but that is the colour for my initiate robes, maybe I will try the red with white detail work on the bottom.

@Ace - No I made up a stencile and airbrushed the cross on, then made up another stencile to see how big I could write the Suffer not the unlean to live oath on.

So after some RLI, painting has finally begun on my second vow. It didn't help any either that I wasn't quite sure of a colour scheme for my vanguard but I think they turned out alright.

I still need to finish the gold filigree work on the robes and tabards, and sadely the picture completely negates the shading work that has been done, maybe I will try and darken that up a little bit more. So 7 more Vets to do and then the two speeders. Here's hoping I can get back on track with my time appreciation.

cc is always more than welcome.

I think tabards/cloaks will work if the red is broken up more with washes/highlighting.  It's a bit solid of a color right now.  You did say it was a WIP Though, so just an early comment!

Could also be the lighting...the posing though is fantastic.  The way they are flying forward into combat is awesome.

The hammers are brilliant, and I think you did a great job conveying the scheme. I'm very interested to see what you do with the tabards. For my jet boys I decided to leave off the tabards (Edna Mode always sneaks into my head and says, "No Capes!"), but yours look excellent.

Onwards Brother!

ZEAL cannot be defeated, but it will be challenged.

Ok it's official, you have to post how you did those hammers. They look stunning. The greyish black is an interesting route as well. Looks good.  I agree on the capes, they need some shading to highlight all the peaks and valleys that you sculpted in there.

Thanks for all the comments, I will re-post some pics later with the improvements.

@Honda -I'm sorry I just about spit my pop out when I read the Edna line. That idea originally came from the roman troops on Spartacus. Thought it was cool so went with it.

@Ace - I will try and do up a tutorial tonight possibly with more than just the one colour. Mind you it will only be still pictures since I don't really know how to or have the equipment to do up a video.

+++ Thunder hammer tutorial +++

Ok here we go, bear with me as this is my first tutorial, If I haven't explained something well enough or the picture quality sucks just let me know and I will try and update that part.
To start with, I figured I would try to do this with a few different colours that I have seen people using on the B&C for there PW. So I did up 3 TH in Purple, Blue and green, along with a LC just in case anyone wanted to see it to.

Paints used: Vallejo Game Colour (VGC) and Vallejo Model Air (VMA)
Purple:                                 Blue:                            Green:
-Royal Purple                       -Imperial Blue              -Dark Green
-Hexed Lichen                     -Magic Blue                 -Escorpena Green
-VMA White                         -Electric Blue               -Livery Green

Step 1: To start pick an area of the TH head closest to the handle, and with your darkest colour start to form your design filling the corners and working your way to the centre of the head. Try not to make it perfectly round as I don't believe that energy does that.

Step 2: From there start to fill in the opposite corner as you did before, try and use as much space as you can but don't fill in all of the black. Later on once you have your brighter colours it will help to add depth the hammer.

Step 3: Next, start to fill in the sides and bottom of the hammer the same way as the top, using the top as your guide. Ensure to connect each wall with one another. The only part you will keep bare is the back wall closest to the handle, that will be filled in a later step.

Step 4: Next, take your second brightest colour, and then simply fill in the same areas you have already made with the dark base. However you want to ensure that you maintain some of the original colour as it will add a nice transition effect of the energy.

Step 5: Is exactly the same as step 4, but you are now using your brightest colour and filling a smaller area still. Only deference is that, here you will make a small fill on the handle side of the head, opposite of where you have made your two previous energy points.

Step 6: Last step. With your white, you want to ensure it is thinned enough that you can control the paint nicely yet have it thick enough that it still shows. Edge highlight the area of you brightest colour and add just the slightest amount of white into the brightest colour. Next start to make your lightning pattern. It doesn't need to be fancy and putting in to much just adds a clutter and kind of ruins the effect you were going for. Just a note, if you find that you have put to much colour into the black areas, just grab a dry brush and with minimal amounts of paint apply to where you want it, and lightly brush it off with your finger, this will also help to give you a nice transition from the dark area to your colours.

In the end, a nice thinned down mix is very helpful as it will help you control your paint and keep everything nice and smooth and transition into on another.

I hope that this helped, again sorry if I didn't go into detail enough or didn't explain it very well.

drool.gif So pretty! They look awesome! Great tutorial as well, I will easily be able to follow that.

This, like greggles' approach to power weapons, makes me want to reconsider how I paint my power weapons and to 'turn them on' (currently, I just paint them silver).

I'm exactly the same, I've never cared for the traditional way of paying them in the "on" position so I've just gone with shiny silver. Greggles' swords are definitely nice, just not my style.

HLVW: How would you do a sword? Would you leave the other areas of it black too? Or would another color work? Do you think silver would work? Based on your pics I'm going to guess probably not as the white might blend in too much but what are you thoughts?

I have done up some swords, I can post pictures later today as I am at work right now. For them I kind of used a mix of this method and the wet blend method, but since I cant wet blend worth #$%^, I kind of combine the two. you could probably use the silver as your base and have it showing in certain areas to make it look like the energy is flowing over it, I would say primarily on the bottom 1/4 of one side and the top 1/4 of the other, with the reverese of it done on the oppasite side of the blade. The only area where I would accumulate the white is at the sword tip.

Again Ill post up a pic tonight of the swords I have tonight so there is actually a visual of what I am trying to say.

@Ace - Im glad that I could help

@Golf - Thanks for comment, I hope that it will help.

I particularly like how everyone does their swords slightly differently.  I imagine power weapons might be similar to lightsabers, in that differences in their power sources could result in differing appearances on the battlefield.

That being said, awesome tutorial! Thanks for sharing it!  (ran out of likes)

Well look what we have here, apparently the Dark Angels dont require these vehicles or personnel. Even if they did they will look much nicer with a black paint job.
I do hope to get the vehicles at least washed up, fixed and ready to hopefully toss into another vow.

Just a quick update, do to my disheartened attitude earlier I had to do penance in the form of staying up until 0500 in the morning to try and finish my Vanguard sword bretheren. With that being said, a large amount of zeal (aka red bull) coursed through my vanes and kept me going and they are all pretty much done, just 2 more relic blades and a axe to paint and they are finished.

I hope to have the rest of this vow finished either tonight or tomorrow.

Lol, right the sword, I got caught up finishing this vow.

There are some relic blades in the squad that I tried to do up, but the lettering on the blades really messed with my chi. Also I don't know but I think that Murphy's Law really had it out for me while doing the resto speeders, anything that could have gone wrong defenatly did. Either way there done. Also thank you Krikey for the inspiration with the intake heat effects, It was very helpful actually seeing them first before putting paint to model.

Here you go Ace, not the finest lines but the first one that I tried to do.

Vow 3 is now up; my eternal crusade continues.
