The Daemonkin/Ultramarine display is simply jaw dropping mate, we spent literally half an hour at it and still kept finding new things. It really has to be seen to be believed, doesn't it? Other favourite displays were the Iron Hands/Emperors Childen at Istvan and the Ork/Guard 'Black Hawk Down' :D

Yes, I know what you mean about spotting somthing diffrent on the Chaos vs Ultramarine display.  During the 40k open day last month, I think on the 7th visit to the display I spotted a lone Ultramarine Captain with Thunder Hammer holding a brdige vs a squad of Daemonkin, it just when your starting to walk down the stairs & where the assault marine are fly down.

 

Sound like you enjoy the event & that the main thing.  There was a theme to the event as well where psychier get extra, how did the Sorcerer find this?

 

I'm looking forward to Throne of Skulls in March & looking forward to tomorrow update where they talk a little bit about some of the extra we'll see from the event :D

 

But looking forward to seen photos from the event & any you've taken of Warhammer World as well :D

Hi guys, many thanks for the complements, as said I am really humbled as there were some awesome models on display, great weekend of hobbying - I urge anybody who hasn't to pay Warhammer World a visit, especially if there is an event on. The event that we attended was Battle Brothers:Warp Storm, where Ygethmor the Deceiver is trying to suck the world of Cerstus Minor into the Warp. It was an 800pts a piece doubles event with plenty of psychic twists to make the game interesting; namely everybody gets to upgrade one character in their 800pt army to get two free psychic mastery levels (hence the Sorcerer in my list, he was bumped to level 3); that includes non-psychers although they could only roll Sanctic or Malefic. There was also a psychic table which had all sorts of random effects such as double strength witch fire, no saves, opponents can reassign blessings to his own units (hello invisibility), to strength D hits when cast blessings on yourself(!). Great fun, and really added an extra dynamic to the game.

As you can see, we ran unbound, yet fun list. It was fun to play, and hopefully against. It looked quite imposing on the battlefield, and quite coherent really due to us basing deliberately similar. As far as psychic powers went, our Sorcerers did ok; remember that everybody had psychers but some went the whole hog and brought loads, or loads of anti-psycher (as you will see later) I myself had Collar of Khornes in each unit of my 800pts, both bike squads and ofc the hounds. As an aside, we ran both Sorcerers and Urkrathos with the Flesh Hounds for the majority of the games, with Col's jump Sorcerer also in Black Legion colours.

Unfortunately most in the cabinet didn't turn out, hopefully the team will add some to their website, or (shudders) a White Dwarf.

 

As for the games, our first game resulted in a win for us against a nicely painted Blood Angel/Guard army which consisted of us trying to kill the ground force before the air support came in, which worked well despite poor placement on our part of the earthshakers, Urkrathos doing the Axe of Blind Fury proud especially on the Russ'. Can I just say Hades Rapiers are awesome at S8 heavy 4. All in all, good game, good start for us.

Second game was against a horrible Crimson Fist/Grey Knight army which we were surprised to win so convincingly in the end, high points including turning the whole army on invisible Paladins (with plenty of Blood for the Blood God thanks to Urkrathos and his Hounds' 1 million+ attacks) and the Librarian Conclave being smashed into a crater by the Earth Shakers!! Glorious for the sons of Perturabo against the sons Dorn. A hard fought win with the final score 8-2.

Our final game of the day was a draw against an Ultramarine/Imperial Fist alliance. An extremely hard fought again, with a draw which went right down to the last roll. It was absolute carnage, leaving both teams with very little left on the field, though if it had went past turn 5, we feel they may have had us due to the Yellow Stormraven still buzzing about obnoxiously. Highlight for me of this game was a psychic Chaplain (remember we had special rules allowing +2 mastery levels to a single character, psycher or no) getting dragged into the warp and taking three if his squad mates with him. Teach you for messing with the warp, lackey of the Corpse Emperor! Again great game, great army and great opponents, very close - my favourite type of game. Only one pic sorry as it was such an enthralling game, Urkrathos doing what he does best -

Running into day 2 was where it all went wrong (I am blaming the hangovers!) This time it was and Ultramarine/Guard alliance first up, and heavy on the plasma cannons too. We went out of the blocks quick, scaring the opponents into a retreat with the dogs and bikes, however our artillery proved to be toothless. No matter, we will assault them to death. Or so we thought. After three turns of equally toothless assaulting, featuring a failed charge from Urkrathos and his cronies, a full squad of Khorne Bikers picking on three tactical marines, and getting run to the ground themselves and a single Biker picking on a small squad of guardsmen, them continually passing leadership tests against all odds, and one dude eventually emerging victorious!! All the while we pulling equally horrendous objectives we had no hope of achieving! An absolutly amazing game, with some cracking opponents. Probably my best game, despite the heavy 15-2 loss although our previous draw run it close. In fact, I am sure more stuff died in this game to gets hot rolls and a rampaging IW Rhino than our guns and chainswords. Oh well, dems the breaks, I guess. Next time loyalist scummers, next time :p ;) :D *shakes fist*

Last game was against a beautiful Blood Angel army teaming up with 5(!) equally beautiful Culixus Assassins and a horrible (yet also beautiful looking) team of inquisitors. They also featured some FW mortar rapiers, which should re-named beat-yers imho, after firing an amazing amount of strength 8 shots insta-gibbing a lot of Urkrathos bodyguard turn one. We got off to a barnstorming lead on VP's however, but got pegged back to a draw, and then it all went wrong when charging the inquisition/devastators resulting in us getting 1 attack each, -1 toughness, -2 leadership and other horrible things such as being auto-hit. Then the trisky gits 'gate of infinitied' away onto a miles away objective, an Assassin claimed another, we lost the Warlords, failed 3 Moral tests (thanks to low leadership artillery and scary Assassins) leaving us looking at an 11-7 loss. Great game, just goes to show how Maelstrom games can turn around with some clever thinking a good roll for VP's.

These were a great army that was nominated for best army also.

 

After the last game we went around the display area. Can I just say, the display area has to be seen to be believed, with classic dioramas from yesteryear, lots featuring the current range (and ofc THAT Ultra/Daemonkin one) as well as the amazing studio armies. Pictures just don't do them justice, even in the Blood Oath book (which I now own B) ) so I won't post any :D

 

All in all, excellent, thoroughly entertaining weekend with great opponents and fantastic miniatures. The icing on the cake was the best army nominate and Urkrathos winning best hero. Oh, and the beer. Good times :)

40k Double tournament update really great, Midnight runner.  As you've said, Warhammer World events are really great, the event team put a lot hard work & it show. 

 

This event sound cool & was really great seen the extra theme & extra added to that gaming/rule wise.

As said the Black Legion - Hound of Abaddon force look really cool.  Same with your brother Iron Warriors force.

 

Will you be going to any other Warhammer World events in the future with the Legion of Abaddon?

Many thanks again guys, glad you like. I am pleased with Urkrathos, and indeed his resemblence to the art. I think the new axe 'pops' more than the old one, and though I think I prefer the old one, he seems to get better Daemon rolls with this one :D

They still need the details finishing, and then weathering powder applied to them. Nearly there! Anybody thinking of getting some, I can highly recommend them. Great fitting kits, improve a Chaos Rhino no end.

It is kind of a test bed for my Spartan :D and I figure if I don't do this first, I won't get it done once I get that Spartan in WIP.
