march10k
Well, I did one wing and finished most of the troop compartment tonight. Still need to highlight the ramp, and the forward-facing side is not done. But...little by little! scatmandoo
Looks really nice and good progress! Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/289301-numerican-night-watch-plog/page/5/#findComment-3725121 Share on other sites
march10k
Well, the pic is a bit out of focus, but the other wing is done, as is the base. Now it's on to the engines before tackling the cockpit, after which there's not much left but odds and ends like the landing gear and missiles. WarriorFish
Good work, it'll soon be done now and plenty of time to finish the rest of the vow too :) Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/289301-numerican-night-watch-plog/page/5/#findComment-3727705 Share on other sites
march10k
Engines are done...on to the cockpit (after which I'll finally be able to mount the bird on its perch!): Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/289301-numerican-night-watch-plog/page/5/#findComment-3729451 Share on other sites
WarriorFish
Tantalisingly close now, they're going to look great roaring onto the table together to unleash the Emperor's wrath :) Once you're done with this vow will you be thinking about another? march10k
Yeah, I'll need a fourth valk to complete the air cav formation, I have an unpainted crab-claw yarrick, I want a pair of hydras...there's always more stuff to paint! Maybe vow 1-2 models at a time, though, I have four unspent vows, and shorter vows are less stressful! scatmandoo
Looking good that is. Have you considered hanging a man underneath for a laugh to make a giant para glider? WarriorFish
What are the rules for a para glider? :P Â Definitely go for bite sized vows next, you'll have made an impressive contribution with your first so you can take it a bit easier afterwards. Plus smaller vows are less likely to be failed and invalidate all your hard work ;) Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/289301-numerican-night-watch-plog/page/5/#findComment-3729776 Share on other sites
march10k
para gliders are a cultist flier...that's why my avenger has that silly rear-and-upward-facing stubber: It's for shooting down paragliders. march10k
The second transport valkyrie is away! (too bad the first one was done pre-ETL) Now...the Kasrkin command squad, then the third (second vowed) valkyrie, and I'll be done with my first vow...say three weeks time? WarriorFish
It came out looking great, the highlights are nice and subtle and the numbering on the side looks really cool. march10k
Weathering and environmental effects are absent from my entire collection, the few attempts that I've made have been miserable failures. Â But...I haven't tried in several years, perhaps it's time to give it another go...after ETL. WarriorFish
I know what you mean, I've experimented before but they were either failures or I didn't like how it looked. With the "new" GW technical paints I'm thinking it should be easier so once I've recompiled a technique collection and finished some more models I'll get back to weathering again :) Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/289301-numerican-night-watch-plog/page/5/#findComment-3733140 Share on other sites
march10k
Well, I've been sick, so not much work until today...I finished my first plasma gunner, although I just noticed that he doesn't have shoulder pad markings. I'll correct that as soon as I'm done posting the pics. I usually do a metallic light blue for both plasma and power weapons, but I was a bit concerned about the blue in the context of this particular color scheme, so I tried something a little different. I like the result! Ugh, I also just noticed that the photo is a bit out of focus...oh, well, next one will be better! Also got little bits done here and there on other parts of the squad...since the metalized paint is something I mix up fresh each time, I went ahead and did all of the plasma coils and such, just to make them match perfectly and get them out of the way. That's my 21st kasrkin, I'm thrilled at how far I've come since the first model: Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/289301-numerican-night-watch-plog/page/5/#findComment-3737826 Share on other sites
WarriorFish
Not even Nurgle can slow our progress, and what's the ETL for if not for getting loads of models done? march10k
Well, I made some decent progress. A second model is almost finished, all the bases are done, and I've put some gray, black, and blue on the other three models. I'll be able to paint more tomorrow, but after that, I'll be away for a week. march10k
Okay, back from my trip. Two stormtroopers done, two more need inks, highlights, and the red and yellow on the plasma guns, and the sergeant needs...a lot of work. Should be done tomorrow night, then it's on to the last model in the vow, the third (second of the vow) valkyrie. /edit/ All four plasma gunners are now finished, and the sergeant needs only highlighting and shoulder pad markings. I expect to be posting success tonight, and starting the last model tomorrow!
