march10k
Well, I didn't get much done yesterday since my summer semester has started and I went out and murdered some space elves in the local league last night (13-8 in a tactical objectives game, that system really levels things, I like it! He had a wraithknight and a crimson hunter left when the game ended, and I had lost some 25 guardsmen, one demolisher, and one chimera...yet the game was tied after four turns!), but I got busy tonight. The camo is on, some splotches still need a second coat. And I did this: I've belatedly realized that the rear tow hooks are still on the sprue somewhere, but other than that...Next is the top of the engine compartment and the front TLHB, then the hull/turret detailing, then the main gun, then the sponsons. march10k
Yarrr!!!! All done but the sponson weapons (plus the lascannon turrets on top) Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/289301-numerican-night-watch-plog/page/4/#findComment-3709965 Share on other sites

WarriorFish
How are you still sane after painting bits the black on the tank treads? :P Good job on the camouflage, it suits the model well. I spot some mould lines around the rivets on the sponsons though. Now all that remains are the finishing tasks and unleashing it upon your opponents! march10k
Yes, I left the mold lines because they ran along the line of rivets (so no easy task of dragging the scraper along the line!), and...if you didn't know any better, it looks like those particular lines (as opposed to the one running diagonally across the scalp of my first kasrkin sergeant model) actually belong there. Â I'm content. Â As for the black on the tracks...yes, that did represent a serious threat to my mental health... march10k
Well, the blue backdrop in the light tent really screws up the colors (ok, phone camera doesn't help), but it's done! WarriorFish
Well done march, another Super Heavy to add to our glorious war effort :D Could you provide some more pictures? Captain Juan Juarez
Why are there no threads where people paint to my level - that of a miniature thrown in to a paint shop and then the shop is blown up. Â That is some great modelling and painting work through the thread and makes me nostalgic for the days I loved the Guard. march10k
Wow I am very envious of your painting skills! All the units look amazing! I promise you, it's not skill! People with skill achieve the same results, in many cases far better, in half the time or less. I spend over two hours on a single guardsman. That's not healthy, I'm told... Well done march, another Super Heavy to add to our glorious war effort Could you provide some more pictures? After all this work surely you want to show it off a bit more... Welllll.okay, you convinced me (you must be exhausted from the effort), I'll take some more shots after breakfast. Why are there no threads where people paint to my level - that of a miniature thrown in to a paint shop and then the shop is blown up. That is some great modelling and painting work through the thread and makes me nostalgic for the days I loved the Guard. Ah, you mean the way I painted when I first got into the hobby fifteen years ago? I swear an oath to the void dragon, I was painting dark angels with citadel dark angels green acryllic paint (so far so good)...and then highlighting them with testors bright green enamel!!!! ~barf~ Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/289301-numerican-night-watch-plog/page/4/#findComment-3711370 Share on other sites
march10k
Ok, more pics: I'm supremely unhappy with the seams in the fuel barrels in back. After I'm done with ETL, I'll have to go back and putty/sand those. Redoing the paint afterwards will be the easy part! march10k
So I took a couple of days away from the ETL slog after getting this far on my next five models (their squad is standing behind them): Actually, I also got their bases done...The purpose of taking time out was to do this: The servitors are old companions of my DA techmarine, I just rebased them (looks like the rims need another coat!), but the techpriest is new...he's a hacked up version of the FW titan techpriest, I got rid of his servo-arms and his servoskull boltpistol, and made his long-handled force axe (more like a force halberd, it was!) into a one-handed weapon like it's supposed to be. He has a boltpistol in a holster anyway. I'm repurposing the servoskull boltpistol for another project. These three guys are going to be piecing hull points back onto my shadowsword as needed tomorrow night...and allowing pask's squadron mate to fire his hull lascannon at pask's target at full BS while the battle cannon fires at something else. I don't know why the techpriest's eyes look that way in the pic, IRL, if you bother looking, it's one optic, clearly outlined in gunmetal, and one blue iris in a white eyeball. I guess the problem is you can't see the gunmetal or the white in the pic... WarriorFish
Good to see you back to the Kasrkin, I'm planning on sticking my Techpriest and Servitors near my Baneblade when I get it on the table too. With the improvements to them I might consider getting a second - with some more Servitors to accompany him of course :) Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/289301-numerican-night-watch-plog/page/4/#findComment-3714170 Share on other sites
march10k
Yeah, I'd like some more servitors...those two are my only ones. But with four, the repair is automatic, not to mention that four tech-servitors and a techpriest collectively have a decent chance of causing some pain if they have to charge a monstrous creature in defense of the shadowsword! Okay, one model closer, the four unfinished ones are at least mounted on their finished bases: Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/289301-numerican-night-watch-plog/page/4/#findComment-3715975 Share on other sites
march10k
It's been a couple of days...I have a bacterial infection of my face swelling my eyelids, so I can't paint, should be healed by Monday, but no painting for me yesterday or today. Â The four unfinished models pictured above are farther along, though. Â One just needs the blue highlighted an the shoulder pad free-handed. Â Two have the blue, gray, and black done, still need the metal before a second going-over with the four main colors, then details like the polarized visor, the red lense, etc, washing, and highlighting. Â The last one is hardly farther along than shown, with some of the first coat of blue done. Â If I'm able to paint tomorrow, I might just finish the whole squad. Â I also undercoated the next valkyrie, it's still on the sprue. march10k
Well, the Emperor's Pharmacopia kicked Papa Nurgle back into submission, I can see well enough to paint, although I have to dry my eyes periodically. Allergy season leads to excessive sneezing and nose-blowing in the gap between my antihistamine wearing off and the next dose taking over, which in turn causes my nostrils to crack after a few weeks of such abuse, and that is the "open wound" that the bacteria needs to gain a foothold, although this has never happened to me in 35 years of hay fever! Anyway, it's only midday, and I've made excellent progress, seven are now complete and the remaining three lack only metal as a primary color, then the second run of blue (the hellgun hoses are metal with blue couplings and such) before it's down to washes and highlighting: Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/289301-numerican-night-watch-plog/page/4/#findComment-3719504 Share on other sites
Captain Juan Juarez
Love that deep blue on the Scions (I hate myself every time I don't call them Stormtroopers). march10k
Love that deep blue on the Scions (I hate myself every time I don't call them Stormtroopers). Are the hotshots fiddly to attach? ??? The only separate piece is the backpack...it goes on pretty loose, but gravity keeps it in place while the glue dries. it's just a matter of positioning it where the radio cable matches up. Baneblade looks stunning! Thanks! Second squad of stormtroopers is finished, now I just owe two valks and a stormtrooper command squad for ETL: Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/289301-numerican-night-watch-plog/page/4/#findComment-3719672 Share on other sites

march10k
Will it all fit in one pic? Just got done building the troop box of my next valk. Assembly can be done while watching the world cup, painting...not so much! I'll get the tail assembly mounted on that before I start painting. I'm hoping that spraying the sprue in the darker gray will make things go faster in two ways. First, I hope I can get away with one less coat of dawnstone over the entire bird. Second, the spray is the color that I was previously hand painting into the recesses between plates. Only having to touch those up instead of painting them in the first place should save more than half an hour over the entire model. Not having to figure out the paint scheme as I go along should help, as well.
