WarriorFish's ETL III - Eleven Barrels of Hell

Recommended Posts

Thanks Oli, I'm about to call it quits for today. Some washes are drying and I've had enough for now. I have a question though, I'm not sure what to do with the engine bit. Here is it as it stands:

I'm not sure if I should leave the arch bit green or paint it a metallic colour to match the innards? If I get time I'll try and take an update shot once everything has dried smile.png

You both raise good points. I think I might leave it until the rest of the tank is finished and give it another look, it won't be that much harder to paint once the exhausts are on and I should be able to get a better feel for it. Thanks! :)

The seals will be red so that could work, but I'm afraid it's not quite that far along Sviar so you'll have to wait a little longer. I've got all the lenses to do and quite a bit of touching up along with finishing the heavy bolters and barrels - but it's definitely the home stretch :)

Getting there, it's a bit frustrating painting in the evenings. Aside from the poor light limiting what I can do (at least not without risking too many mistakes!) there's also not enough time to get into it. I'm making good progress though:

Not sure about the Baneblade Cannon, maybe I should have stuck to just the black wash on it? I won't get to pick up a paint brush again until later in the week so I might wait for the weekend and go all out to try and finish it. For the Emperor!

Thanks, I'm eager to get started on my Platoon :D I'll probably have to spend a bit of time correcting mistakes and doing touch ups but I can see the finish line now. See, I told you I was good with tanks :P

Thanks, I'm sure you'll like the Platoon too I even got the GS out for it :)

Baneblades are good, but they're best thought of as super Russes! So there are more specialised and scary Apocalypse units out there but none quite so iconic. I will use it to spearhead an armoured assault... and they thought my horde of tanks was bad enough before!

I'm back to report the completion of my Baneblade vow!

I decided that the back was colourful enough so the arch didn't need anything more. I'm happy with how it turned out though I've not done any barrel scorching as normal because I've an eye on the future for weathering and possibly the addition of a camouflage scheme but it's more than ready for the table top biggrin.png

I'll be off to report my completion in the strategium and then sort out a points total and uploading some pictures for my next vow. For the Emperor!

Thanks biggrin.png I've not even decided if I'll do a camouflage scheme, but given how many tanks I have it's becoming increasingly unlikely tongue.png Besides I think I've grown to like the plan green tanks smile.png The lenses are fairly easy - just a little time consuming. I blend a couple of colours together, give it an appropriate wash and gloss it smile.png The searchlight didn't photograph very well, looks a little flat colour wise I probably should have waited for the varnish to dry before taking the pictures but I was too eager to complete the vow tongue.png

Through the Warp, to near and far,
To Tallarn, Lethe and Ultramar,
The Emperor points and we obey,
Through the Warp and far away.

I did some GS for them too as I said, a couple of beret heads and I fashioned a slung lasgun for the standard bearer so he can have his gun but still be pointing his comrades to glory.

I'm quite pleased with him, I'm sure he'll be leading glorious charges in no time smile.png The HWTs are pretty old, they were the ones I was considering for ETL II but wisely left them out. I also used some of the CS box officer arms for a couple of models including the banner soldier, it was a bit of a pain cutting and filing the sleeves down so there were normal Guardsman ones but I didn't want anything to stand out.

The entire vow is models I wanted to do so I shoved them all together with a few more troopers so I could make a full Platoon. Not like you can have too many troopers anyway right?

Oh and speaking of old; this vow was made from a 20 man box still in the cellophane! laugh.png

Thanks guys, the lenses are the trick up my sleeve to make people think I'm better at painting than I really am tongue.png I thoroughly enjoyed making and painting this kit, if I didn't already have the Platoon assembled and promised for the ETL I'd probably be working on my Shadowsword. It's unlikely I'll squeeze that in as well as I won't have time to fully magnetise it as I intend, but I'm aiming to put an order in for some normal sized tanks soon for vow 3 msn-wink.gif

My schedule is extremely busy towards the end of the ETL so I've got to make as much progress as I can now! Oh, and check out the 360 degree rotation picture on the GW site for the Baneblade. I used it to double check a few things like lenses and I was very disappointed with the state of the model. Shameful really, you'd expect so much better for a model they're trying to sell!
