HH Weekender News/Leaks

Lots of stuff in Conquest will have models specifically the Imperial Army units and a good chunk of Mechanicum. Legion stuff? Maybe generic things like a flyer but no specific Legion units.

From talking to Andy Hoare about the gaming side, it's going to be a much more engrossing campaign system with a much more epic scope - think a larger version of the Fall of Orpheus campaign plus there's going to be provisions for using a shattered legion type list for both traitors and loyalists as well as character progression. Maybe even an up tooled version of the stuff in Extermination for things like resources etc

It sounds outstanding and not just a simple cash grab. Think people are forgetting that this isn't "central GW" where it's models models models it's FW and the narrative is equally as important. People will complain but the way of looking at it is, we're getting another book this year when we could have gotten naff all. And as easy as it is for me to say because my own Legion has been covered, I'd still have been happy to wait for them if it meant they were done properly rather than thrown out the door at the earliest opportunity to get the money avalancheing in

A question: on the various FW-produced dioramas (Isstvan III, Isstvan V, Paramar V), I keep seeing miniatures of dead Space Marines. Now these don't seem to be reposed/modified versions of miniatures from their standard product line. Does anyone know if FW plans on releasing them or if there's any way to acquire some?

I only ask because part of me REALLY want to build some kick-ass mini-dioramas to bring my favorite scenes from the HH novels to life.

Anyone else find it somewhat annoying that all the new termies seem to be left handed? Could be just me though.

I thought Space Marines were ambidextrous :)

On Curze, Edgar told me that he is focused on Solar Auxilia and will be for the near future.

I understand from someone else that the next Primarch after Vulkan is already in hand - so to speak ;)

I agree they are ambidextrous, but I guess I just don't find it as aesthetically pleasing. Could also be that I'm right handed :P Honestly I don't mind a few left handed models sprinkled into a squad but 5 out of 5 annoys me. Meh, oh well. Is that racism against leftys?!

Honestly, I've thought about this a lot(weird, I know) and ultimately, this is the decision I've reached. Would you rater have your gun in your right so you have better aim, or your blade/fist for better control? Personally, I need my aim. I can learn to swing with my left.

What You can't use both hands shooting . By nature I am  right handed but i prefer to use my left hand when shooting pistols.

I actually come to the opposite conclusion. I would much rather have total control with my melee weapon. In real life I find aiming with my off hand much easier and less awkward than complex movements with a heavy object. I'd want the confidence in CC. Personal preference I guess.

I have the more awkward disposition of having to learn how to shoot left-handed as I'm right handed however can't close my right eye properly haha - either way I prefer shooting right handed, that said I also prefer wielding a ccw right'handed when possible...

Yup - however I may use some of the new WEs heads for my breachers.

The majority of them were regular marines posed in a way that didn't make it too obvious ie face down whilst the others were the fallen space marines that GW direct sell

Weren't some of them also from the Primarch kits? There's plenty of dead marines to be had from pilfering extra casts of those models.

Nope. I spend most of my time shooting rifles, so I only devote one hand to pistols. The other I use for my medium-size Bowie knife.

This thread is growing really quickly and it seems to be very focused on pictures of Forgeworld minis and news about new gaming material. It is also very fragmented having developed over the course of the weekend and being filled with requests for information from people who weren't there. I am considering compiling a single post article giving a review of the weekend as a whole now that the dust has settled, with a focus on the Black Library aspects and author discussions in particular. It will however be a couple of hours worth of typing time to write it all up so I'd like to check first if there is interest fin such an article? For now, here are a few random snippets of my experience that I hope will amuse.

First off, I'd like to thank all of the people who made it possible but in particular our frequent visitor/poster on B&C A D-B who was the author who probably had to endure me to the greatest extent since I was in a small group discussion with him (more on that and Master of Mankind later). I had anticipated a BIG queue for him at his signing sessions so I got there fifteen minutes before it started and twenty five minutes before the man himself - he had to turn up fashionably late.

He's a big presence in real life. I'm used to seeing him as a postage stamp sized avatar of a face peeking out from under a hat in the corner of my computer screen and I wasn't really prepared for his physical presence. Nonetheless I think he was actually more intimidated by me than I by him. I hate being stuck in a queue whilst one person talks endlessly to an author as if the author is there solely to speak with them, apparently oblivious to the mass of people standing in line behind them. So it is that by the time Aaron looks at me and indicates he is ready to begin I am like a coiled spring ready for action and promptly launch myself forward.
"Hi! I just finished Betrayer last week," I announce passionately. Aaron's eyes widen with a touch of alarm and he recoils slightly."I absolutely loved it."
Aaron visibly relaxes, puts a hand to his chest and lets out a sigh of relief.

I was delighted to learn that he had seen my post about his avatar earlier in this Weekender thread but he is still unable to see it himself. In an attempt to corrupt more people I have prepared a slightly doctored large version to show what I mean and then the original in its usual size. Will try to upload this later.

Chris Wraight lived up to his reputation as "The nicest man in Black Library." I did make an incredible censored.gif of myself whilst talking to him. We'd been talking about the Scars culture whilst my copy of Brotherhood of the Storm sat in front of him. I was so engrossed in what he was saying that I almost forgot about the book itself. The conversation wrapped up
like this:

"As I say I really, really enjoyed this book and it's been great to have a chance to speak to you in person. Thank you."
"No problem, my pleasure. So who's it for?"
This question throws me, most authors have just literally put their signature and nothing more.
"Oh, err..." I say, sounding like a fool.
"Owen?" asks Chris as his pen move to the page.
"No! No! My name's Peter," I blurt in a panic.
"Oh, okay." says Chris looking a bit bemused by this lunatic who can't even decide his own name.

Most bizarre bit of trivia from the weekend - Laurie Goulding mentioning that in audio drama "Templar" Sigismund is voiced by Tim Bentinck who plays David Archer in BBC Radio 4's long running soap "The Archers". I frequently listen to the 6.30 comedy slot on Radio 4 on my way home from work and if I'm running late then it runs over into the 7pm slot which is The Archers. Whilst by no means a follower of the show I am sufficiently acquainted that I drove home from the Weekender listening to Templar and trying to dissociate Dorn's most
famous son from a man who laments the state of his pasture grass or worries about whether his dairy herd has TB.

DAMN YOU LAURIE GOULDING! Next year I'm going to hand out free t-shirts that declare "Tarvitz Lives" as my vengeance.

Just a quick note on the content of Conquest, I did a little research into the conflicts detailed:

* 'Battles of the Cyclops Cluster'

The Cyclops Cluster is a sub-sector of the Gothic Sector in the Segmentum Obscurus

* 'Siege of Mezoa'

Mezoa is a Forge World within the Cyclops Cluster - there are a load of weapons listed as being 'Mezoa' pattern, so it seems to be pretty productive [iron Hands,  Mechanicum & Knights VS Death Guard & Sons of Horus anyone?]

* 'Defense of Agathon'

The only thing I could find is a Fortress World [also listed as a Hive World] called Coronis Agathon within the Segmentum Obscurus

I couldn't find anything on Manachea - any ideas?

Or a lets expand with fluff new lists and more missions plus a character profile builder catch up on the backlog of units and allow ourselves to continue with the unique identity of each legion.

Wait, what? I haven't seen mention of the bolded section elsewhere in this thread. I read that to mean that book 4 will come with some kind of custom character builder. I.e. the ability to customise the stats/special rules of existing independent character types (e.g. Praetor or Consul) to create our own unique 'special characters'.

Am I understanding you correctly? Because that's a hellava lot of awesomesauce, even if it is predisposed to abuse (yes I know 30k is more about the narrative, but it can still happen).

Gun

Honestly, I've thought about this a lot(weird, I know) and ultimately, this is the decision I've reached. Would you rater have your gun in your right so you have better aim, or your blade/fist for better control? Personally, I need my aim. I can learn to swing with my left.

Gun.... who needs a gun... maybe holstered if i may ever need one. Both hands for melee for me thank you very much :D

It's 100% confirmed for book 4 check out the battle bunnies blog.

Actually I did what the blood angels do.

I just mounted my shooty stuff on my forearm so I CAN USE BOTH HANDS TO SWING MAH CLAYMORE

Wow, can FW get any better?

Yes, they can do a heck of a lot better. Like they could clone each other enough times that they can work on four or five more Imperial Armour arcs like Vraks and Badab while speeding up their Horus Heresy line, without loss of quality, all the while doing Games Workshop's codices and supplement stuff on the side.

Because damn it, every time they release some fluff, it leaves me craving for more. In ways no GW product ever has, and only the rarefied BL author can.
