4th Tarosian Regiment - Devildog

Recommended Posts

Thanks guys. Still much to do on them to make them look more natural. Sitting with plasticard and building has been a fun and creative way to use up the ol' bitz box and get creative. I've a couple more builds, a missile array probably best suited for a rooftop AA installation, and a WIP Aegis Defence Line-y thing, still building it up.

And here's that Chimera turret. The Autocannon body itself is a bit rough, seems to have been slightly miscast. I have a spare that might work better, though. You may noticed that I've drilled the barrels on this one though. Yup, I officially have a drill, time to fix up all those barrels I've been chastised for all this time! :P

The missile gives it a more predatory look I quite like. If only HKMs weren't fairly rubbish.

Anyway, I've been enjoying building terrain lately, but I thought, "all this stuff's fairly small scale, if only I had something more scenic and substantial to use!" Then I remembered the old second-hand Chimera I bought off someone for £5. Due to it being shoddily built, a different colour scheme and the older model of Chimera, I'd got a second-hand replacement and it had been relegated to a storage box.

Turned out the guy I bought it off had used cheap superglue to put it together, bless him. I managed to disassemble it by hand with a little force, and well, the results are below:

Much painting to be done after I strip off the old paintjob. The idea is that a projectile punched through the armour and exploded inside the passenger compartment, killing the Chimmy stone dead, along with the unlucky buggers inside it! I'm going to have a suitably gory spray of liquidised Guarsdman emanating from the hole in the chassis, but it'll be scorched and very old, having been a casualty of a fight a while ago.

This terrain stuff is pretty fun actually! Took all day, especially bits like the individual track links so it all sagged and fell fairly naturally, and trying to get the right "feel" for the destruction. The dead Commander up top was a fiddly but rewarding job, too.

  • 2 weeks later...

Had some surgery on my eyes yesterday, which is still in the steady process of healing up. I probably won't get much done during the weekend as a result, but in the meantime, here's my current 4th Tarosian Kill Team in action against the foul Orks!

It's quite fun playing at such a small scale on such a cluttered table. Beats playing on Planet Bowling Ball at least!

Sadly neither, though I would relish the chance to be a bionic badass. I had a squint in my eye, and the NHS made it go away. But the recovery period has made everything blurry and difficult to see, so no painting or building 'til I'm better!

Besides, next up is the long-awaited Ryza Executioner for Big Gunz. May be fine to start on that atm, given the lack of small detailing required until I get to the highlighting and weathering stage...

God bless B&C's darker aesthetic. I never realised how many sites use such an over-abundance of bright whiteness in their colour scheme. It's really playing havoc with my sensitive eyes right now. Tabbing to Photobucket to post the below pictures and suffering an explosion of white each time really hurt...

Anyway, here's the Ryza Executioner before and after today's painting work. I'll post more fluff details and such in the Big Uns main thread:

Basic base coats before washing, highlighting and weathering. In hindsight it needs a lot of tidy up after my eyes toughen up a bit.

Looks good already and even more so considering your eyesight. Hopefully you improve swiftly and then you can continue.

I also like all the power packs dotted around. It's a nice touch.

Can I ask the reasoning behind the storm bolter? Was it already on or is there another reason as to why the Stubber wasn't chosen?

Thanks guys! The eyes have been healing up nicely and a checkup confirmed the previous wonkiness is gone. Now, if only they weren't so bloodshot and tired-looking! :P

Anyway, further progress on the Executioner was made today. I still need to tweak weathering, paint lenses and drill barrels, but she's coming along nicely. The only issue is the camo got severely swamped by the wash over the armour, so I'm debating how to deal with that one as it's a bit of a letdown. (I'd changed the colour of my secondary, lighter camo slightly, so it contrasted much more nicely, but the Sepia wash, even diluted with Lamian Medium, has taken over it.)

A lesson not to be so wash-happy in the future. You may notice a tint of green on the weathering, this is a...repatriated Cadian Executioner, and thus the old scheme shows beneath tough damage. The Machine Spirit does not enjoy its new masters however, and rebels with many ruptured cooling pipes and severely-burned crew.

I may do so, given that there's still two weeks remaining. In the meantime, I made the sorry, sorry mistake of joining some 40K Selling pages on Facebook, and the temptation took its toll! I ended up nabbing a Medusa and a Tauros, though the Tauros will be for my Chem Dogs.

Here's the Medusa as I received it, then the results of tonight's casual personalisation as I watched Frozen Planet:

Not as much as I want to paint this baby up!

http://i148.photobucket.com/albums/s36/coffeegrunt/WP_20150203_23_12_35_Pro.jpg

Confound the fact that it's probably best to wait for the ETL, I can't help but think how much of a weighty project this will be, but also how rewarding it will be at the end! I'm torn as we're going to be running a 5 vs 5 10K Apocalypse game on my birthday, and I think I could get this painted to a decent standard in the meantime.

However, it's probably best to play the long game and save it for the ETL. Up next I'll probably be painting my neglected Hellhound and Devildog once I finish up a few half-finished painting projects. Genuinely considering getting a nice display cabinet to motivate me to paint things up now, as a couple of friends have got them and it makes a nice display piece you can show off with pride.
