4th Tarosian Regiment - Devildog

Recommended Posts

Sadly I didn't get any painting done, but I did get a couple of games in against my friend's new Space Wolves army at 1250pts. Forgive the crappiness of the shot, it was a quick one as I wanted to get a shot of my army almost all on the table. (Mortar teams and some Lascannons were omitted.) I'm quite chuffed that the majority of my army is painted right now!

Banewolf achieved nothing as it was sitting behind those ruins waiting to pounce on some Grey Hunters that were moving up that flank. However, it then got Stunned twice in a row, then destroyed before it could even kill a single one! Pask in the Punisher with Sponson Plasma Cannons and a Lascannon was a beast, though. His Executioner buddy also reaped a decent toll, while the Wyvern steadily wore away units at a continuous but not blistering pace.

Juan, you're to report to the drill square immediately for disciplinary action. For the despicable crime of disrespecting one of the Commissar's favourite sweets you are sentenced to 100 lashes from the cat o'seven tails (we don't know what happened to the other two). There is no punishment for speaking ill of Ribena :P

But Ribena is delicious!

More small updates. Guns are now halfway done, just a few touchups on the base coat before I roll onto washing and highlighting. After that, it's only really the crew left!

I opted to start using Ironbreaker for rivets, rather than Runefang. The result is a more realistic metallic shade, so I'll probably go over all those rivets - again - to tone them down a bit. Feel like I'm on track to have this finished by tomorrow, and I got word that my two Leman Russes were delivered...but it was the Royal Mail, so rather than arduously climb our garden path, they left a card at our door for me to go travel across town and collect it.

Was up until 1:30 painting this up as I'd enjoyed a barbeque with friends for most of the night, (in Britain, we live every day of Summer as iff it's the last.) I'm sure staying up that late was very irresponsible with work at 9AM the next day, but sleep is for the weak anyway!

Could be worse, have you had them posting the "sorry you weren't in" cards without even bothering to bring the parcel? They're not called Royal Fail for nothing (close friends with Network Fail).

Coming along very nicely, you're clearly getting the hang of armour. Keep them coming! Also your BBQ powers need work; we BBQ all year round. You don't know the full wonders of the sacred BBQ rites until you've cooked up some stuffing balls wrapped in bacon on a cold winter's night ;)

They just left the card, as I had people who were in the house anyway waiting for the parcel. Must've been too heavy for the postie to carry. tongue.png

Anyway, cycled up there on my lunch break and brought them back. They're the old school Russes, so a little different but not too much. My main problem is that almost everything has been glued tight, there's no way of popping other sponsons/hull mounts in and out, and overall the build isn't quite as good as what I try to do. (Gaps, slightly mis-aligned tracks, that sorta stuff.)

Anyway, the builds they've got equipped are very close to what I'll be using anyway. There'll be a lot of work in scraping Aquilas, stripping paint and trying to rework the overall build quality to come. I may make these Leman Russes my venerable ones, and try some more intense weathering to hide the build quality. tongue.png

I think I have barbeques lines up for the next two days with various groups. I may very well end up vegetarian out of overeating meat afterwards!

I survived the deluge of barbeque meat this weekend, (one on them was overseen by an Aussie friend of mine, and thus was very high quality indeed!) I also managed to get a little time Sunday and Monday to finish my Wyvern and get the Banewolf painted. I'll get pics of the Wyvern with the last few details up soon, for now the WIP Banewolf. Metallics are mostly done, just the main body needs a couple of coats before weathering, washing and highlighting are done:

I mainly use it as a counter-charge unit. Hidden in Cover but able to zoom out, it makes Tac Marines think twice when footslogging up to my lines or ballin' up in a Rhino. Being able to pop the Rhino easily then zoom the Banewolf so it's in position to melt the occupants when I do is very handy. I don't tend to rush it up the field Turn One, as it ends up dying damn-quick when I do that.

I like them very much coffeegrunt, please post links to the nonbnc conversions when you can.

Sadly the only one I've done so far is the Drone Auto-Mortars, who were rendered irrelevant as soon as I got a Wyvern. I have plans for another, new tank which should be a fun project to build, and will represent the technological innovation of the Tau merging with the rugged tech of the Imperium. It'll be based on the Scorpion MBT from Halo, probably the Halo 1/2 version with the co-axial chain gun rather than it being mounted in the hull. Should be a fun Leman Russ Counts-as, just gotta source Taurox Track Pods, a Vanquisher turret and a suitable chassis, plus a whole load of plasticard.

I'm finishing up the Hellhound atm and just put the last touches to the Wyvern before blasting it with Purity Seal. After that, it's the two second-hand Leman Russes I bought thatI'll paint over the top of the original paintjob, as it seems the previous owner used an airbrush which made the layers nice and thin. Test coats of paint have gone on beautifully so far.

After that, I'm debating another Wyvern, a Vulture, or a Baneblade. I'll keep you posted on what plastic crack I get from my dealer, for now here's the finished Wyvern crew:

Thanks, glad to hear I'm indirectly helping the cause!

Here's some more Banewolf goodness. She's pretty much finished, just needs a few, final touches before the Purity Seal goes on. Tried some slightly different weathering techniques on it, seemed to come out quite well:

I also got given a shelf at the LGS to display them on, which is already getting a bit cosy with all these tank hulls! Here's a shot of the painted forces of the Regiment on display. I'm planning on repainting the yellow lights to be blue, btw, as it seems to fit the warm, orange colour scheme a bit better:

Had a busy weekend at Comicon, so didn't manage to get any more work done on the regiment. Luckily the trip to London completely eradicated my bank account, so I won't be tempted to buy any more toys for the rest of the month! Aiming to paint up the majority of my remaining forces, (consisting of two Russes, 8 Guardsmen, and a couple of Weapons Teams.) Halfway through doing the Guardsmen below, further coats, washes and highlights still to come:

I'm debating what my next purchase should be. First plan will be 30 Guardsmen and a Platoon Command Squad, to get a solid Infantry base to hug my tanks. However, I'm also debating a Vendetta/Vulture, another Wyvern, or another Hellhound. Any thoughts on what to pick?

Great looking army you have there. The more I see your banewolf, the more I like it. I really like the track guards and may have to borrow that for mine.

As to what to get next.. I would say any of your ideas would be good but if I where to pick I would say that the Vulture gunship is a cool model that will usually take out way more points than it costs. Good weapon options so you can really make it suit your needs. My and probably most peoples favorite load out is the twin punisher cannons. Combine those with vector dancer and you can reliably kill any flyer short of a Stormraven in 1 turn. The downside is you can't even scratch av 12 +.

I was debating some form of replacement to the Punisher Cannon, so that I could cheat and avoid buying the pricey FW model. Sadly, even Tau don't have something capable of throwing down that much S5 fire! Do you think a combination of this gunship and either this turret or this one could work? I really do like that Dragonfly, it's very Avatar/Halo Reach in its design, and I'm a fan of VTOL Rotor Gunships like that. Plus it gives a lighter, more reactive look to my air support and suits the, "not quite Imperial, not quite Tau, and not a mix of the two either," look I'm going for...

Thanks for the compliments on the Hellhound. I'm quite chuffed with how it and the Wyvern came out in the end. Gunna be running some of my Guard as allies to my Tau tomorrow for a mini-tournie, here's hoping they prove themselves!
