TrawlingCleaner Posted June 21, 2017 Share Posted June 21, 2017 (edited) Had my first 2 games of 8th yesterday and I have to say it was AWESOME! It was only 25 Power but I had a blast. They were my first games since 6th edition but I pretty much fully understood the core rules. The only thing everyone at the event struggled to get our heads round was the re-rolls before modifiers. Having reserves is like playing a game of chicken with your opponent, whoever gets theirs in first needs to make sure they're positioned well so that whoever gets theirs in second struggle to counter charge. Captain's rerolls are very useful since that's usually 50% of the misses. Tactical marines seem to do quite well in smaller games because there isn't much that boltguns can't significantly hurt. The heavy flamer in my tac squad is the mvp of my first game after getting some very lucky rolling from me, and some awful rolling from my opponent, I managed to overwatch and kill a unit of 5 genestealers that were about to charge, on his turn one. This, and the tale of gamers, has really boosted my enthusiasm to get my guys painted. Not hugely difficult, a little time consuming as you want to ensure the replacement goes on in about the same position and angle, you may need to do some tidying up of the elbow armour with some of them as well! I'd suggest a hobby saw if you can, as the clippers REALLY jacked up one of my shoulders to the point where the arm is barely attached to the torso, the pad is attached to the torso, and the arm is also attached to the pad, all three somewhat supporting the other in their effort to keep the arm together. Thankfully it was on the Ancient, so the flag just got a little glue and some pinning to keep the standard upright, which meant the arm is generally superfluous. The exterior of the Rhino is primered but the exterior of the raider is this really nice desert camo bone color. A bit deeper shade than Dark Angels deathwing. Quite nicely done actually with recesses primered black for built in shading. Kind of a shame as I was originally going to paint it in Death Company colors! DC are still brutal on the charge but I didn't make a single "FnP" save with them. The bolt pistol/sword Primaris Lt from the starter set & a set of vanvet storm shields to make some company vets. I'm also basting red marines in Carroburg Crimson like a madman. I kinda like this and have been thinking it over. Perhaps a red stripe that runs the width of the doors (they were modeled in the back hatches) with a smaller red stripe up front. The model is pretty unadorned so I will have to use some of my BA transfers to help it make it shine. Tried freezing the model so I can open it up and get at the interior to paint things like the seats and make it scuffed. But the top is pretty solidly glued it seems. They're made under license by a really strange company called Nemesis Now (their website is... different). Primaris Lt is built, backpack and wings separate for painting.
