Casual 30k Hobby Challange. Month 2

I like the shoulder pads. They remind me of a bird with its folder wings hunched up - seems delightfully appropriate for the raven guard! I feel like a few totemic feathers hanging off the lower layer would look awesome.

Not sure what you should do about the belt... I don't think a tabard would work against those legs... Bird skull? (As if that bit exists...)

like the shoulders as they fit well with the bulky helmet tongue.png

Current Standings

Pledges

As you’d expect, no pledges have yet been completed, however with the declaration of abject failure from Russ Brother 92 (probably due to emotional trauma after the death of Ferrus Manus), we are in a straight fight of eleven pledges on each side. If we all fulfil our vows, and none are added, we are certain to avoid defeat in the pledge war!

Closest to completion at this stage are Atia, and everyone’s favourite double agent, StruManChu (for both his loyalist and traitor vow). The rest of us have a fair bit of work to do.

As a final note, from now on, for the competition, I’ll only change pledges if they are at least as large as the original vow – shrinking your pledge in the second half feels distinctly unfair.

Scores

First a reminder of the scoring system:

Infantry - 1 point;

Large Infantry (termies, bikes etc.) - 2 points;

Monstrous infantry - 3 points;

Vehicles - 6 points;

Lord of War - 10 points.

Loyalists: 11 models complete, worth 17 points

Traitors: 6 models complete, worth 15 points

The Loyalists hold a narrow lead at this early stage!

Progress

Loyalists

Generally good progress in the loyalist camp, after the initial shock of the great betrayal, though the loss of Russ Brother 92 from the team was a blow to their cause (we know you are cheering us on Russ!). StruManChu is the core of loyalist success, basing Imperial Fist seekers to give the loyalists four solid completions, and went on to add a Rhino for his squad (ten points in the bag). Unfortunately his double agent tendencies have come to fore in recent days…

The sons of Vulkan have also performed well for the loyalists, providing the rests of their completions. Castiel reported the first complete loyalist troops (though visual confirmation is pending), with progress on his Breacher squad. Meanwhile Frozenfoods completed his jetbike Salamanders Praetor, and Kor’Vesh finalised three of his pyroclast squad. Seven points to the glorious XVIIIth!

While there are no further completions, progress does continue well, with both Castiel and Kor’Vesh working on further members of their squads (with the Primarch Vulkan under construction). More excitingly Slipstreams has entered the fray in earnest, priming an entire 3.5K pride of the legion Imperial Fist force and entering “the yellow zone”. Reyner continues to threaten to start painting his Sicaran tongue.png

Traitors

While the traitors have a few less completions at this stage, their campaign is beginning to simmer, with wider ranging progress in week 2. Atia is once again blazing a trail, continuing her shock and awe tactics with the completion of a fantastic Questoris Knight Paladin, and some awesome weathering effects on her Death Guard Fellblade. While her actions sow despair amongst the loyalist camp, the order of a load of Salamander goodies give us hope for November…

The other completions (I’m pretty sure they are complete…) came from Thunor’s Hammer, finishing four Volkite Caliver equipped members of the alt-heresy Infernal Guard. Check out his plog guys, it’s a great project and a lovely scheme! Even more heavy support marines are in progress, with paint on at least eight of the 10 man volkite squad and the construction of the ten man multi-melta team.

The great double agent, StruManChu, began work on his traitor pledge, a dynamically converted World Eater’s praetor. He, along with Atia, looks likely to give the traitor’s a completed pledge in the coming week. Further progress has been made by Tears of the Raven, with more conversion work on his legion preator, and selfless painting of his land raider (including free-hand tribal markings!) – names for the iron beast are requested – “Ghost” is my call…

Bulbafist continues to lovingly craft his breachers, and Brother Vidus has promised some painting progress for the weekend. Horus is watching you brother!

Finally, the man who loves every Legion, Fire Golem, has begun painting his Sons of Horus! He produced a really solid SoH green colour in one of his first goes at painting, and looks like he will put together a very nice looking force. Great work FG, now let’s see some completions!

Summary

So that’s where we stand guys. While the loyalists are ahead, the traitors are certainly much closer to their first completed pledges, and could quickly pull out a big lead in week 3.

To you paint brushes brothers, In Vulkan’s name!

Apologies for the rubbish phone picture. It would be clearer but my desk lamp suffered a catastrophic failure this week, hindering painting process as well as photo taking. Not sure how to base these guys, thinking about black sands with lava channels running through them maybe? Profress was also hindered by "shiny model syndrome" with the arrival of my Firdrakes, which are now half assembled :P

Well, that lead didn't last long!

Oh Atia, what are you doing to us? That is a mighty-fine looking fellblade. The weatering is stunning and it oozes Death Guard. Love it.

So, no sooner do I finish writing my report that I discover Wyvern has made progress and Atia hits us with our first completed vow (worth 20 points!). The question on all our lips - what will she do next?

@Wyvern - The despoilers look really good. Loving the dual axe praetor too. I think you've only based those guys this month (correct?) - obviously your pledge is your pledge, but I'm not sure how to do the score. 12 points seems a bit much seeing as you painted them last month - I was thinking of giving you 1/4 of the points for the basing (which is itself good by the way!) - so 3 points to the traitor cause. Would everyone be happy enough with that?

If so, the traitors just lept to 28 points!

Yeah bud just bases and weathering done this month, and yeah thats cool with me matey long as every 1 else agrees

Ohh n cheers for the comments bud had begun to worry about my skills after FG's first freakin go at painting >< damn rookies lol

Thanks Kor'vesh smile.png

The question on all our lips - what will she do next?

http://img5.fotos-hochladen.net/uploads/deathguardtankig3fyax9ks.jpg

I'll use the Hunter as count as Whirlwind Hyperios. Back in the days of Epic, the hunter was the Marine AA tank nr.1, and so i want to add one to my Death Guard msn-wink.gif. Fluff-wise (in my opinion), it's a prototype of the hunter, the STC was rescued by the Imperial Fists after the first battle for mars, and later used against Horus' forces. After the Heresy, the Hunter was only used by the loyalists, but some traitor forces still possess some of the early Hunter-Alpha AA Tanks ...

Sorry guys yet another random question lol

I was hoping to add a Land raider to this months vow, but alas the parasite now inhabiting the mrs's gut says no to the FW order afterall :( lol so my question is..... I know we "can" technically use the standard GW land raider kit as it was just around in 30k iirc? But how feasible would it be to have 1 in a pre/during Istvaan force also is there anything you guys would do to "heresy it up a bit"

Ohh n if at any point my rambling questions get annoying just tell me to shut it lol

As Reyner sad, yes, you can use them (or all other GW plastic tanks (rhino, predator, vindicator, whirlwind), they are just mars pattern tanks). You may add a havoc launcher to make him more heresy-era.

@Kor'Vesh, is it possible to make a 2nd pledge (Hunter and Vindicator) for that month, without the risk to loose the 20 points for the finished first pledge >.<?

Well that does it then if i can make my LGW after work tomorrow ill be adding a pimp mobile for my dudes smile.png first ever vehicle.... Dun dun duuuhn lol

yeah! awesome! you should get a sponge for battle-damage and dirt thumbsup.gif. That's easy and effective!

Yeah ive been swatting up on how to do battle damage n weathering on stuff bigger then a marine....basically stolen every idea from you :p hehe as i dont think the way i paint will transfer across to sutin the size of a raider but thats why i love the B&C so many awesome painters more then willing to help us nubs out :)

OK, so my thoughts on additional vows and completions are pretty simple.

We have two competitions. The pledge competition is about honour for your faction and yourself. You must meet your vows to be awarded the point for your pledge, and secure honour. Vows are not for the breaking! So, if you make a second vow you are gambling your first pledge to win two pledge points for your team. So Atia, if you vow again, your first pledge point is in danger.

However, I think we need to encourage any and all progress here, so in the competition for scores things will be different. If you complete a model, the score will be counted, regardless of vow completion. So you will always help your faction by painting something from a pledge. This way everyone has an incentive to make progress, but not to over vow, and there is a cost to pledging too much in the secondary pledge.

Make sense?

So, it pains me to say that your twenty points are safe Atia, but your complete vow (which has the traitors winning the pledge competition right now) would be lost if you failed a second vow. Essentially you should vow again as you are quicker at painting than the rest of us, and we need your input!
