@ Deathspectersgt7 - Indeed brother, gotta love the FW salamanders upgrades.

@ Leviathus - Thanks brother! High praise from you and your own lovely models.

Up next, a Librarian and another Devastator are in the works.....

Sacred Feth! This plog has got even better since I last saw it! Ill stick with what I said anyway though as I feel it says it all....

Salamanders done properly!

I didn't see your last reply to my post a while back. Yeah Like yourself I don't really go into GW Liverpool much. The manager seems sound though.

Looking forward to seeing more Brother and serving in the Badab War thread. Maybe we could mix up some of our fluff, saying how some of our marines fought together in the campaign?

This thread is full of so many beautiful models, so many characterful figures, your work is simply fantastic Stoneheart.

Also, if it's not to late to give my vote for which Legion you should start in 30k ten I say you should do the Alpha Legion, both were part of the mysterious three-Legion group known as "the Trefoil" and I like the dark mirror of the sinister Hydra against the noble Salamander. ;)

@ The Yak - Always good to hear from you brother, many thanks for your kind comments. I was in GW liverpool painting yesterday, finished the first half of my dev squad and librarian (see below) - it's a nice place to paint :) Sounds like a good idea, we'll have to get our heads together.

@ Grizzly Bear - thanks brother - another addition to the squad in the photo below. Can't wait to see your amazingly kit-bashed captain in the glorious colours of the Scythes by the way!

@ Uprising - many thanks brother.

@ SanguiniusReborn - you honour me brother, glad you like 'em. As a napoleonic reenactor your Scarlet Sentinels speak to me! ;)

Updates! Finished another Devastator, he's a newbie recently promoted from the scout company (top left). Imagined him leaning against a wall like the new vindicare model.

And I'm proud to present my first ever psyker, one of Nocturne's small corps of Earth-shamans...lovely model, hard to justify it costing £18 now that I hold it in my hand though!! Can see why they've started churning them out with 32 mm bases now, makes them seem so much bigger!

Thanks for looking. :)

@ Grizzly_Bear, thanks man, glad you approve!

@ Knight of the Raven, thank you very much. Approaching thirty painted models now, looking forward to having a game with them.

@ Raktra, not far off! Going to Waterloo in 2 weeks so that'll be the real spanner in the works hobby-wise. Mainly university work interfering though. Soon it'll be done though, hurrah!

And we're back for the winter, following a summer of hobby procrastination! msn-wink.gif

@Brother Tyrax - thanks mate, your marines manevolent are an inspiration so it's awesome to have praise from you.

As seen in the Back to Badab thread, here are the latest additions to 1st (Tactical) Squad, with an accompanying piece of fluff for your perusal!

Brother Tor'el is 1st Tactical Squads ice-cold heavy weapons trooper. A devastating cranial injury suffered during the opening stages of the Badab War - requiring extensive augmetic surgery - has rendered Tor'el without any capacity for emotion.

Brother Theon has over forty years of experience under his belt and is a superb marksman. As with many of his battle-brothers, the Badab War has been the first time he has fought against other Astartes. Theon takes no pleasure in ending the lives of the secessionists, and can be heard muttering Promethean litanies as he fires shot after well-placed shot into their ranks.

http://i1382.photobucket.com/albums/ah272/salamander8681/tactical%20squad_zpsbkdjadwt.png

"May the Emperor forgive you." A second later the Mantis Warrior was down, the secessionist's neck all but destroyed by the mass-reactive shot. Only the vulcanised rubber seal that connected the fallen warrior's helm to the rest of his armour kept his head from being blown clean off. Brother Theon's HUD registered the target as destroyed and he replaced his bolt-guns empty magazine with practised efficiency. The other members of 1st Tactical were arrayed on either side of him, evenly spaced and maintaining a disciplined skirmish line as they advanced on the retreating Mantis Warriors. Merciless missile fire from supporting gunships forced the Salamander's opponents into an undisciplined retreat. Theon's suit of Mk7 power armour registered the heat and concussive blast from the impacts as the precision air-to-ground fire sent plumes of earth, ferrocrete and limbs hundreds of feet into the smoke-choked air.

The Mantis Warriors were formidable adversaries, but with their fleet routed and numbers on the Loyalist's side, they had next to no hope of victory. The thought did not thrill Theon. The engagement at Gangreatha II was the first time he had fired upon another Astartes, and over the course of the two-week long battle he had seven confirmed kills, and he found himself reliving each one in his few moments of respite from the fighting. His eidetic memory, supposed to be a boon in his role as a defender of the Imperium, was proving now a curse. Chaplain Kor'ath had prescribed daily prayers to Vulkan and the Emperor. The venerable priest of the Promethean Cult had not yet offered Theon bad advice, so the marine clung to the ancient litanies like a rock in a stormy sea.

"Contacts, sector 11," Brother Tor'el blurted, his voice distorted by the vocoder surgically grafted to his face. His heavy bolter thumped out fist-sized bolts towards an isolated knot of Mantis Warriors. Micro-explosions showered the secessionists in rubble and dust as they spread out in reaction. They were trapped in an abandoned set of breastworks, their brethren forced to leave them behind as the tide of Salamanders overwhelmed their crumbling defences. Miles in the distance, the fiery contrails of escaping Thunderhawks indicated imminent victory for the Loyalists.

"Caldera formation," Sergeant Ror'k ordered, and the left and right flanks of 1st Tactical increased their speed to create an encircling movement. The Mantis Warriors responded with desultory bursts of bolter fire. A few shots spanked from Brother Aeros' pauldrons but most of the shots went wide. Theon spotted a Devastator squad symbol amongst them - probably inexperienced troops, at least compared to the likes of 1st Tactical, but inexperienced Astartes were still formidable and they would be determined to not end their lives as space marines in such an ignominious manner. Brother Tor'el responded with a relentless stream of heavy bolter shots. A Mantis Warrior who had exposed his upper half to loose a volley of shots at the Salamanders was reduced to chunks of bloody gristle and ceramite as several of Tor'el's bolts found their mark.

"Contact eliminated." Tor'el droned. The surviving pair of Mantis Warriors retreated further into the defence system, but found their route cut off by 1st Tactical's slowly constricting noose. Brother Gideon's bio-marker flashed from green to amber as his right lower leg was severed by a concentrated burst of bolter rounds. He spat Nocturnean oaths at the secessionists and continued to fire, heedless of the blood jetting from his terrible wound.

"You will survive." Tor'el remarked in his now characteristic monotone as he advanced ponderously towards the rear of the bunker where the Mantis' (or was it Mantii? Theon wondered briefly) had retreated.

"I had been wondering." Gideon hissed through blood-rimmed teeth, his dry sense of humour never stayed even by injury.

As the Salamanders surrounded the bunker, Theon gritted his teeth and stowed his bolt-gun. In its place he drew his serrated combat blade and brass-chased bolt-pistol. Both were master-worked weapons he had crafted himself. Neither were made with the thought of ending fellow Astartes' lives. Chaos-aligned traitors perhaps, but not these. He wondered if he saw similar regret in the body language of his brethren. None such from their Sergeant.

"Cleanse and burn." Ror'k ordered dispassionately, cooking two frag grenades for a few seconds before tossing them through the bunkers fire-point. At the rear of the bunker, Brother Aeros lowered his drake-mawed flamer unit and depressed the firing stud. Roiling flames billowed into the structure, jetting through the forward fire-point like an infernal exhaust. The grenades detonated with a double-bang muffled by the roar of the flamer. The radiation from the fearsome weapon momentarily baffled 1st Tacticals HUDs, preventing life signs inside the bunker being analysed.

"Clear it." Theon obeyed his Sergeants clipped command and entered the bunker first, followed by Aeros and Tor'el. The flames clung to the walls like a hellish parasite, but Salamanders were renowned for their constitution even amongst the Adeptus Astartes and the marines passed through, paying them little heed. Theon had barely entered the main chamber when a blazing ceramite-armoured hand took hold of his throat. Before Theon could cry out a short, barbed blade flashed out and pierced his armour's neck seal. Blood flowed. Theon's bio marker flickered.

Brother Aeros was right behind Theon and with an almighty prang smashed the reinforced fuel cell of his flamer into the Mantis Warrior's helm, sending it flying through the bunker's fire point and revealing the terrible, pain-maddened visage of the secessionist. Stepping over Theon's choking form, Aeros barrelled forwards, his own combat blade reflecting the flames he had created as it pistoned in and out of the burning Mantis' softer abdominal armour.

Theon spat blood as he tried to stem the flow from his neck. His vision started to swim and fade as he began to slip out of consciousness. Tor'el lumbered over him, his one biological eye assessing his condition.

"May...may the Emperor forgive us..." Theon whispered. He could hear Tor'el's vocoder whirr in response as he let unconsciousness take him.

"You will -"

Thanks for looking! On the way - Veteran Sgt for a command squad (replacing 'commtech marine') and another Devastator, and another Terminator.

I'm glad that my "likes" managed to get this thread back on track msn-wink.gif

Haha I don't what you mean ;) in all honesty though, I'm just keen to finish my army...I'm so slow!

Heh. The lack of autotone on these pictures makes them look like they're in the middle of a sandstorm. Guess it's fitting.

I like Theon best.

It's my phone camera, its cracked and full of dust, need a new phone to be honest. But I'd never thought of it like that! Glad you like Theon.

Ah good, you're back. You were letting the tall side down for a bit there.

But who can match the power of Stoneheart and Raktra, in the union of the two towers.... ;)

My favorite Salamanders, welcome back man!

Thanks brother! Glad to be back :)

I guess I'm not the only one who's been gone for a while. Glad to see things are still fantastic as ever brother. biggrin.png

Branchow

Us Salamanders are prone to isolated wandering ;) glad that you still approve brother!

Well, this week's update will have to be just replies I'm afraid! I'm off to the 40k open day on saturday and I said I'd take 750 pts of Tyranids to face my good mate Rob's skitarii list. So, I have to build and paint three zoanthropes in time for going back to the old county on Friday! As per forum rules I shall refrain from posting pictures of the ever-growing Tyranid infestation.

Thanks for looking...and wish me luck (just don't mention Ymgarl in front of Ashmantle...) ;)

An inspiration? blush.png Your skills are far beyond mine my friend!

Seems we all took a hiatus! I'm loving the Tactical with the flames, looks really imposing and dragon-esque.

I highly doubt that brother.

Our hobby cycles must be synchronised in the UK :P I think the Age of Sigmar release kind of gave us a chance to lay low for a while! Theon seems a popular guy, glad you like him! The orange makes a nice spot colour I think.

Ah they're looking Great brother. Love the update

Thanks Grizzly, your comments are appreciated as always! I need to catch up with your Scythes actually, looking forward to a binge on your updates haha!

So I successfully completed 3 Zoanthropes in time for the 40k open weekend, I won one game then lost the other against my friend's Skitarii. Quite impressed with the Zoanthropes, although I kept forgetting to cast Catalyst. Also picked up Autilon Skorr and some Alpha legion Mk IV heads in preparation for my next big project.

But anyway, back to the Salamanders! I present to you Master Sergeant Bronn, Captain Mir'san's trusted advisor who has replaced the comms marine in the command squad (the eagle-eyed may recognise the legs from way back at the beginning of this plog). As the senior sergeant of 2nd company, Bronn is further distinguished from the rank and file by the addition of a broad red stripe that bisects his helm, in addition to the gold face plate that is the mark of a veteran of the Chapter. Bronn's heavily reinforced Mk IV plate is decorated with trophies from his many successful honour-hunts on Nocturne. These include several Salamander fangs as well as the lower jaw-hide of a Leonid.
