NoPityNoRemorseNoFear
Hi all, Some new bases arrived today and as such I have decided that I need to introduce you all to my crusade. As such I hereby Declare the beginning of the righteous Sanctus Crusade! The crusade was formed from the remains of numerous other completed crusades which had been denied the honor of fighting on armageddon due to their diminished numbers. Each finished crusade provides the expertise from their previous campaigns and adds new elements of warfare with which they are accustomed to, as such these elite warriors of mankind have come together under a new marshal to wage war upon the enemies of mankind. This marshals name: Mortus Helstrom, the aim of this campaign is a simple one: the recovering of sacred artifacts in the name of the emperor and smiting all that oppose him.So this model isn't finished converting yet or even glued to its base so is far from finished but gives a general gist as to what he should turn out as, without further ado I give you Marshal Helstrom!http://i1377.photobucket.com/albums/ah78/Btemp93/temporary_zps0fef7366.jpg?t=1419601794 http://i1377.photobucket.com/albums/ah78/Btemp93/temporary_zps7d441f68.jpg?t=1419601801http://i1377.photobucket.com/albums/ah78/Btemp93/temporary_zps7a8bdf8c.jpg?t=1419601800 Stay posted I have alot of things to post up! NoPityNoRemorseNoFear
they came from the new Deathstorm kit. I didn't need to do very much at all with it, was originally just going to be used just as a captain as I had lots of other bits fro another character, but he looked so good I changed my mind. Brother Christopher
Very impressive. Great selection of bits and a very dynamic pose overall. Can't wait to see more, too. I only have one remark: I'd get rid of the inquisition symbol on the sword, if I were you. NoPityNoRemorseNoFear
Thanks! Also don't worry about the symbol it's on my to do list! I have already replaced the guard with the wings of the aquila and once I have learned how to use green stuff I will give it a shot. Does anyone have any recommendations for must have tools/ tips when using greenstuff. I have managed to get this far without needing it but I fear that time may be at an end! Brother Christopher
Oh, I'm useless when it comes to sculpting. But I know this for a fact: even for basic GS operations, it's recommendable to get a sculpting tool or, my personal favourite, a dental tool - its cheap substitute (I got mine for 1/5 of the price of a GW sculpting tool). The other thing is that you should use water to make your life easier - GS doesn't stick to wet/greasy surfaces. Well, it doesn't stick as much as it does to dry objects. You'll discover that the putty is often rather nasty - it lives a life of its own and more willingly attaches to your fingers/tools that to the surface you want it to be on. The third thing, which is rather obvious, mix the two part well - knead it till it's nice and... green. I always use the suggested proportions of yellow and blue. But, if I'm not mistaken, you can alter the proportions: more blue makes it thicker, more yellow makes it more elastic, supposedly. I remember I've read something like this some time ago, but I'm not 100% sure. These are the basics, and this also is where my knowledge is exhausted I hope that helps at least a bit. Marshal_Roujakis
Knives, Sculpting Tool, Vaseline (or oil), Water, Liquid Green Stuff and a lot of internet guidance... Liquid Green Stuff is a lifesaver to get rid of those fingerprints on your model or to smooth out cracks that appear in your sculpting. NoPityNoRemorseNoFear
Hi all, I have taken some photographs of a few units now so I hope you enjoy them, still lots to go but this is all you are getting right now! Please note that some might need bits and bobs added here and there, I know all the neophytes need their BT crosses etc. So without further ado here it is:Crusader Squad A http://i1377.photobucket.com/albums/ah78/Btemp93/temporary_zpsae961546.jpg?t=1420219559 Crusader Squad B http://i1377.photobucket.com/albums/ah78/Btemp93/temporary_zps0ece98ed.jpg?t=1420219560 Cusader Squad C http://i1377.photobucket.com/albums/ah78/Btemp93/temporary_zpsfd230253.jpg?t=1420219560 http://i1377.photobucket.com/albums/ah78/Btemp93/temporary_zps8a1c2cd6.jpg?t=1420219560 Crusader Squad D http://i1377.photobucket.com/albums/ah78/Btemp93/temporary_zps616b6c57.jpg?t=1420219560 Assault Squad http://i1377.photobucket.com/albums/ah78/Btemp93/temporary_zpsa2e8bca9.jpg?t=1420219560 Dreadnought with Multi Melta http://i1377.photobucket.com/albums/ah78/Btemp93/temporary_zps74d0068d.jpg?t=1420219560 Venerable Dreadnought with Assault Cannon http://i1377.photobucket.com/albums/ah78/Btemp93/temporary_zpsb1d49f85.jpg?t=1420219560 http://i1377.photobucket.com/albums/ah78/Btemp93/temporary_zps729b3fcb.jpg?t=1420219560 Chaplain/ Ironclad Dreadnought http://i1377.photobucket.com/albums/ah78/Btemp93/temporary_zps86462edf.jpg?t=1420219560 http://i1377.photobucket.com/albums/ah78/Btemp93/temporary_zps01d09de7.jpg?t=1420219560 The chaplain Dreadnought came from the Deathstorm kit just like Marshal Helstrom, I thought the furioso dread looked chaplain enough so attempted the conversionI still need to green stuff a few things before painting but I am pretty happy with the result. My greenstuff tools have arrived today so I will be giving that a shot soon enough. One last thing: I have never done very much templerifying of my transports, I don't want to super zeal them but a few non chapter upgrade sprue ideas are welcome, I now have the BT brass set so I could use that I guess, what have you guys done? when I post some photos of their current state any recommendations would be great. The_Chaplain
Ill take a look through my picture folders when I get home for simple conversion ideas and bits for your vehicles. NoPityNoRemorseNoFear
thanks Chaplain I am looking forward to them. It's a funny story about the chains, I had spent ages looking for stores that sold them online in the UK and I came accross some plastic ones on Ebay from the Dark Eldar Raider and it just so happened that earlier this year I decided to collect DE and bought a few raiders so I managed to nab a few of those and managed to make the whole thing in a day! I would still like some actual chains though as you can only obtain one draped effect from the plastic as it doesn't bend too well. Have you tried immersing the plastic in hot water, bending to the desired shape, then immersing in cold water? Probably worth testing on some sprue to get a feel for it first if you've not. The_Chaplain
thanks Chaplain I am looking forward to them. Sorry for the wait, was out with my fiance's family past midnight-- hopefully these help in some way: Window bit from the cities of death sprue used as an armor piece with some freehanded art inside them Impressive freehand on a landraider, as well as a convincing dozer blade conversion Landraider Helbrecht pattern (more pictures available by the artist on deviantart). An impressive beast worthy of bearing the High Marshal's name! Window bits used as statuary. I think this is a pretty fantastic idea. Cathedral landraider by a member of the B&C dark angel subforum Close-up detail of the gun and front sensor on that same tank. Warhammer fantasy terrain piece (possibly?) used as sponson armor. A conversion for putting frag launchers onto a LRC with the forgeworld extra armour kit. If you can find this guy's website, I absolutely recommend checking it out. It has better pictures of this landraider, including detail of the arch searchlight and the several busts (including a custom sculpted templar) he has done. Madscuzzy's custom tank-- the razorback multi-melta on top sealed the idea of having those instead of the gunner in my mind. Sanguinary guard wings used on a razorback style turret. Not a bad idea if you're playing up the Angels of Death motif on a tank. Don't ask me what the guy was doing with the landraider conversion itself-- it looks like an attempt at a hover raider? Wings from a dark angels bike headlight faring put onto the multi-melta pintle armor. A nice little detail. Baneblade headlights used on a Deimos pattern rhino. I personally think this is a spiffy idea and might yoink the idea for a reclusiam command squad razorback. A stormbolter mounted onto the front intended to be reminiscent of a WW1/WW2 tank gunner seat. A pretty terrific idea, especially if you have the bulky razorback turret up top. I had some more photos, but there were various errors uploading them. Again, I hope these help in some way. Have you tried immersing the plastic in hot water, bending to the desired shape, then immersing in cold water? Probably worth testing on some sprue to get a feel for it first if you've not. That might work-- but that tends to work more on resin. I have heard (but never tested) that salt-bending is the better method for manipulating plastic. Marshal Mattias
Excellent array of ideas there, and several may influence me to pick up a new landraider... Also: " Don't ask me what the guy was doing with the landraider conversion itself-- it looks like an attempt at a hover raider? " Is it possible it was a deep-striking landraider for a BA successor in their last codex? Brother Christopher
@NoPityNoRemorseNoFear Great progress. I like the way you paint your miniatures. And the amount of them is impressive, at least by my standards. It would take me about 4 years to complete so many troops. But now, and this is rally awesome about this forum, I feel kind of inspired and maybe I'll find that something in me to start painting my troops. But man, wow. Your crusader squads are kind of special. You managed to capture a mixture of a BT and military vibe. I also like how you placed your neophytes up front :D very typical. And the chappy dreadnought looks amazing. I absolutely love it. It's equally good as FW's or even better. Where did you get these chains? The painting isn't the best but It was quite a quick process. I originally used to edge the black with Adeptus Battlegrey but now I just drybrush the models with the new dark grey of the same colour if you have more time you can then add a bit more depth to their armour by edging with lighter greys but for initiates I don't bother.for the metal I just use leadbelcher with nuln oil and rakarth flesh with the brown wash for tabards/ crusader seals. The shoulder pads took the longest just because painting white onto black was a pain, with the latest white base that has become less of a problem though. I usually wash around the shoulder pads a thin layer of nuln oil to make the pads blend into the armour a bit more. In the end this gives you a model that will go through hell and back for the emperor! Great to hear that you have been inspired! that's what these threads are for right? Regarding the Chaplain dread the chains came from a Dark Eldar Raider kit. I have alot more to photograph and put up so keep watching, much more to be inspired from! Yeah I was never too sure with the head, I wanted it to look like some sort of armoured Coif because this knight prefers helm to watch his enemies die in the flesh. I could remove a few of his head connector things or even magnetise it like his arms. I have a few more models on sprue including a command squad but this is essentially my entire crusade! I hope you enjoyed looking through all of these photos. My next question is: where do I go from here? should my crusade expand into more Land Raiders? Have I got way too much already (I already know the answer to that question!) what do you think?? Honda
I totally love the twin powerfist chappie. I am definitely going to make one of those. I don't care what he does in a game, he's just awesome looking!
