Sympathy.

Thanks.

I went to bed at 7:30am after finishing the last book.

still want to punch Hawke in his face. Also I like Cadians a lot more than I used to thanks to those books. I'm now reading Mechanicum to sate my desire for more good Mechanicus stuff.

And feeling my hobby ADHD kicking in again. I swear I can't go two weeks without getting the itch to jump onto some new project.

Ah, I meant sympathy for having to read through the drivel that was Gods of Mars. Biggest literary disappointment of the year.

But I liked it! sad.png

Seriously, with how bad the end of a trilogy tends to be and how it built off of the other books rather nicely it's one of the best ends to a trilogy I've read. May not be your taste but I enjoyed it.

Also Hawke needs a punch in the mouth. And I'm always saddened when I see how great Arco-flagellants are in the fluff vs the table. Though now I do have a level of how bad you have to screw up to be be made into one.

Yeah, there is that... just finished Ahriman: Sorcerer and the specialist arcos in that were pretty awesome. Pariah variants called Seraphs... still got beaten up by an unarmed, near-death aspiring sorcerer though, which is more in line with their TT performance, heh.

I like to paint my VSS and Cannoness in different coloured hair.  All the rank and file gets the holy bleach job but as a sign of rank the officers get a bit more leeway in their dye jobs.

My seraphim are blonde...the canoness is whatever the hell she wants...everyone else is the same unremarkable shade of brown.

Evening all!

So its been a while since I last updated, but with the ETL in full swing, its time for me to get back on the Sororitas train!

For my initial vow, I'm painting two Immolator's (for the previous squads) and three Penitent engines and I'm happy to say I've made a decent amount of progress for once! laugh.png

Immolator 1:

Immolator 2:

Taking decent pictures of tanks has never been my strong suit (for some reason my camera insists on making the colours on these big, bad, burny wagons, look a lot harsher than they really are) but they're done and ready for purging.

I've almost finished the PE's so updates should be up by the end of the week! cool.png

Cheers!

Cheers mate! I wasn't sure if the green viewports would work at first, but they did help in breaking up the colours and stopped them looking like a giant chunk of gold on tracks!

So I'm currently trying to paint red hair and hating every result so far. Has anybody got any tips on how to make it look natural?

Nice work Sith'ari! I really like your gold tone on the SoBs and the basing turned out well - compliments the models brilliantly. Immolators are looking the business too. Heck, its all great!

Are you building towards a particular army list?

Edit: no tips on the red sorry mate - red hair colours are something I could never get to look right. Mine always ended up looking a bit cartoony (like WFB Dwarf Trollsayers) - which I expect isn't the look you're going for wacko.png

My SOB are all redheads.

Base a reddish brown, wash with agrax earthshade, then drybrush twice with a red-orange and a lighter orange. Take care as some light oranges leave behind yellow streaks when drybrushed.

Cheers for the tips guys! Like KiwiBen, I've also been suffering from trollslayer syndrome, so im definitely looking forward to testing out some new recipes. B)

@KiwiBen: I still haven't worked out my list 100% yet, but the original idea was to start at 1200pts and then work out what the army needed from there. So I'm thinking of:

Saint Celestine

3x 5 Sisters (melta and heavy flamer) in Immolators (H. Flamer turrets)

A squadron of 3 Pentitent Engines

2 Exorcists

and either 2x 5 Seraphim (2 flamer pistols) or a big squad of 10

Im trying to theme them around the idea of a mechanised crusading force, so most things will either be in transports or have jump packs to keep up. :D

It's update time and I'm pleased to say that the Penitent Engines are done!

Compared to building these censored.gif painting them was super easy and actually a lot of fun. I'm not sure what it is about the battle sisters, but this army has been such a blast to paint so far. B)

Not sure what I'm going to paint next from the big box O' metal, but it definately wont be a vehicle. Maybe some Seraphim...

Sure thing!

1) Basecoat all of the areas you want gold with GW Mournfang brown (it's always best to paint gold over brown as it gives it a warmer colour.)

2) Go over the brown with Vallejo Model colour old gold + a drop of Mournfang brown.

3) Wash with Army Painter Soft Tone.

4) Heavily drybrush with VMC Old Gold

5) Lightly drybrush with GW Runefang steel.

And there we go! B)

I really like the Penitent Engines Sith'ari!  I must admit, I've never been a huge fan of the models, but your ones are tempting me to dust off the half-assembled one that I have buried in a box somewhere, and maybe even buy him some friends...  Are they any good in gaming terms?  I've never even looked at the rules for them...

Most people see them as too weak to be an adequate assault force Kiwi, with AV11 open topped and 3HP they don't last long to combined arms fire. They also lost their ability to chain attack in the new codex. Most people recommend running three and making sure your opponents have to many targets to focus Fire on them. As for once they get into combat, it seems to make the enemy ribbons ^-^ as for not liking the model, shame on you! For once we were the first to get something! The dread knight, wraith knight and other similarly styled creations all creeped into the light through the inspiration that was the penitent.

Also thank you very much Sith'ari! Are Vallejo paints good to use? I've heard positive and negative reviews but never dabbled in them myself.

@KiwiBen: Cheers mate! It's funny, but the Penitents are one of those models that I never liked until I saw them IRL. Then I kind of got obsessed and bought three! laugh.png I haven't played a game with my sisters yet and they do seem pretty frail, but as Katya has said, running them in groups of three and using them as a distraction unit seems the way to go. happy.png

@Sororita Katya: I've only just started using Vallejo paints myself, but I have been reeeally impressed with them so far. The gold covers beautifully over a brown undercoat (unlike the new GW golds), the skin toned paint all seems to go on without any hassle and the sheer variety of other colours is fantastic! Whilst I will always praise GW's base paints (especially the reds) I do recommend trying out a few Vallejo paints and seeing if they fit your own painting style. cool.png

@KiwiBen & Sith'ari: Although they are indeed very frail constructs, they can work very well as part of a force that uses them. An example i can give of 2000 points would be like this:
- Bastion with HB Retributors, Canoness on quad Gun and 4 HB command squad + Void shield
- 3 Penitent Engines (1 squad)

- 4 melta dominions in Immolator
- 3 Squads of Battle sisters in immolators
- 1 squad of 10  in Repressor

In this example list which a friend wrote but i played in 4-5 games (his models), you have a full line of Immolators + repressor driving across the board (against some opponents, 12" on the first Turn), and a Central building that is mowing down a lot of enemy Units rather fast....

out of the 5 games, i can tell you that the Penitents did not take as much fire as the Immolators did, or none on the turn the enemy though they'd try and get the Bastion (never did). IIRC there was a grand total of:
- 1 Turn of fire from 4 Lascanon havocs, took 1.5 Penitents off the board.
- 1 Turn of fire from Assault Centurions and CC charge from them, resulting in 2 Penitents dead, while the remaining one cleared out the 3 of them (they hade cleaned 2-3 full marine squads before this)
- 1 Turn of fire followed by assault of a Wraith Knight with 2HP left. He killed 1 Penitent, 2 glances on another, and died to overwatch.
And that's pretty much it. Havoks and Wraith Knight was me repeating on a loop "shoot them before they CC you or you will be in trouble, they're only AV11"
"Why are you not shooting them yet, this will be messy"
etc
So if i'd kept quiet (this is a beast of a list, i gave them all the help they could get) then they probably would not even had seen that attention...

The one and only time I tried fielding Penitent Engines, it was a squad of two, and the one that made combat got krak grenaded to death by assault marines. >>

That's quite situational then i guess :P

When playing the above list, the 3 Penitents cleaned 2 Assault squads on their own huh.png
Killed about 3-4 marines with heavy flamers, 4s To Hit meant ~3 Hits, at a 1/6 chance of Glance, 1/6 chance of Pen, my opponent did not roll a single 5 or 6.

IIRC correctly he also had a few power fists, which all died before they got to strike....

Penitent Engines are my favourite unit.

In all of 40k.

Because they are that good :P

The models are horrendous to put together though.  You do not know true pain until you build one!

I love Penitent Engines. That was the model that got me into the 40k universe and entrenched me firmly in the Sisters of Battle camp.

I run them when I can. I always seem to be missing 240 points when I build lists. How convenient.
