So it's been a while, but this last one took longer than any model I've painted before, and I was incredibly busy at work.

The large base, knives and volkite charger are still a WIP, but I'm very happy I got as far as I am right now, which is why I decided to upload it anyways.

Feel free to comment and critique, the sword, like all the other swords in my army, has been done quickly cause I need to learn how to paint NMM silver properly before I'll give it a good shot (which will be when I'm done with the army and start improving the models).

Thanks guys :smile.:

I've already made a start at the storm eagle, but I can't really get my brush in the areas of the engine, should not have glued it yet I guess :sad.:. So thats quite a demotivating project at the moment. Might just put it aside now and then and get the scenic base of Fulgrim done slowly as well.

Still looking to add one more nice project to my army, but still don't know what it will/should be yet. I'm going to play a 2500 or 3000pts battle vs salamanders and one vs mechanicum soon, so that might tell me what I need :smile.:.

While my Storm Eagle is still a WIP (but getting along quite well now), the last bulk of my army arrived from FW.

Additions still to be painted:

Storm Eagle  (WIP)

5 Veterans (despoiler models with EC torsos and shoulder pads)

Lightning Primaris

Eidolon

Anvillus Drop Pod

and these guys:

Also have 5 Phoenix guard left over (bought them for these spears), and also bought a set of tartaros power axes, just so I can model and paint those 5 termies if I ever feel like it.

Nearing completion :happy.: :

Still a lot to do, but compared to the hours that it took to get this far, I consider it nearly finished

(gold still needs 2 highlights, all details need to be painted and I think I'm going to paint the cockpit glass itself, rather then leave it clear and paint the interior)

Looking good!

I heard the kit was a total beast to build,

how did you find it?

It pissed me off beyond belief. It was totally bend and crooked. And half the pieces just don't line up well.

I had to cut and fill holes all over and in the end, some part are just still not looking they way such an expensive model should tbh

It pissed me off so much, that I glued the lascannons, just to get it over with. Which I now regret cause there's no way in swapping them for rockets without ruining them.

It's a nice looking model, but if you ask me, it's a piece of &^$#. The only FW I've ever had that really made me think it's not worth the money and that made me feel like I was scammed into buying junk.

Luckily, the parts that I really couldn't fix, are on the bottom and back, so I can live with it eventually.

It does make me think twice... no.. ten times, before I'll ever consider an Eagle or Raptor again.

Anyways, I've put it aside for now and started on the bases of my last models, so I can put them on there and at least use them in battle before they are painted.

I think I'll paint Eidolon next, cause I've been waiting for the model for so long and it looks really good. Just a bit worried about the white cloak..  I always have a rough time painting white surfaces. The painted FW models' cloak doesn't seem to have any highlights or shades, but still looks good. I wonder how they did that :blink.:

I think a lot of their work is achieved by airbrushing and shading tbh, zinithal highlighting the guy at the fw day said. Hardly any brush work.

Looking good there, iv been delayed from hobby lately with a half finished vet squaf and las vindi to paint.

Soon..soon..

Hey guys and galls,

I haven't had much time for painting these last weeks, but I've picked it up again.

I hope to finish Eidolon soon :smile.:, all other models are at least past the basic purple bascoat stage, to make them look like something while using them on the tabletop. Every model is based too (some of the first things I do, cause I think it really helps make the model look good on the table, before it's even close to finished)

What I was wondering: I'm probably going to opt for painting the transparent cockpit of the flyers (like the storm eagle above), but I'm not quite sure what would look nice.

Does anyone have any experience with certain kind of inks? To maybe leave it transparent-ish. Otherwise I'll just basecoat it black, and then paint it some nice suiting colour (though I'm not quite sure what colour... maybe black going up to white?)

Any tips?

Just read through this thread and have to say that your NMM is fantastic and you have a really striking army, I am eagerly awaiting Eidolon :). As far as painting the cockpits on your flyers goes, I believe Tamiya do a range of inks that people on this forum have used before, red I think was the colour they used but i'm sure they do others.

Just an example of what was used.

Thank you!

Do you have experience with these inks? I've tried using the old GW ones, but they don't 'stick', they need a good basecoat.. which defeats the purpose a bit when you want to ink something transparent.

I'm hoping to finish Eidolon with hemet this week, I'll paint the face option later I think (magnetised them so I can swap :) ).

Found the thread I saw this on. Unfortunately the picture at the top isn't working but there is advice as on how to accomplish the look your after.

I love the look of Eidolon with the helmet so now im even more excited :D

Ah cool, thank you!

By the looks of it they are talking about the SOH fire raptor on the FW website.

That does look like what I want to achieve, might not even need to paint the interior at all, don't think you'd notice.

I'll try and find that paint :), only need to decide on colour ;).

If you go the Tamiya route I've also found the consistency to actually be pretty tacky so I don't think you'll have much issue with it "sticking" so to speak.

Personally I think red would look excellent as a contrast to the deep purple you use.

Good thing I just ordered the clear red then :D.

Including shipping it's €10 for the bottle, but it'll be worth it I hope :).

Alright! I finished Eidolon :biggrin.: .

They eyes will get a work-over when I can hook up my airbrush, but for now I think this will do too. The larger scenic base will also be something I'll do when I've finished the rest of the army.

How you guys/gals like it:

Now that I see the pics, I also need to do a tiny bit of weathering, not too much of course, he is Eidolon after all

This has been one of the most fun models to work on :cool.:

Thanks guys :biggrin.:

I used more 'gold' on him than FW did. FW also has a bit more black (shoulders) and silver (details) on him. But from the books I always imagined him to be over-the-top..  having way too much gold in his armour. I believe somewhere it actually says it's hard to see any of the EC purple in his armour.  FW didn't give him enough details to really achieve that idea, but this comes a long way.

Now, on to finishing the storm eagle (as soon as I get the clear tamiya paint), 5 tacticals, 5 Palatines with spears, 1 rhino and a Lightning Fighter.. and then the 2500pts army is done :biggrin.:.

The end is nigh :laugh.:
