I really want to save for autumn, for when Russ lands & hopefully lots of other Fenryka goodness :)

Finished the dual striping and started the stencil for the Space Wolves symbol on the front panel.

So what do you think to the semi-straight stripes?

I was thinking to do a simple design, like a wreath and a numeral 6, but not sure where to put it, or even if it will look messy because of the panels

 

Do I make a dragon head prow for the front of the spartan (either side of the front hatch) or will it be too comic-like and make the model look dumb?

 

Thoughts in general?

While I can appreciate what the ginfaxi represents, I'm just not feeling it. The rest of the Spartan looks amazing, though.

WLK, don't worry, I am not taking it personally. Its like the way I hate you and Bladewolf can knock mini's out so fast & I am stuck doing 1 every few months

 

Wolfblade. Will it be a 6th or 7th LegionSpartan? Either way, You will have a ball with it. Hope you have better luck with the tacks than me. All the back ones have had the edges smashed off. I am a bit P O'd, because I didnt package them properly, but also the baggage handlers have all the packing skills of a lobotomised gorilla!! There were fragile markings allover the bag

 

Makes me as useful as a chocolate fireguard come ETL time.

 

BCK, the Ginfaxi? is it the symbol or the shields you are not feeling? I have been in 2 minds over th shields, mainly because I am concerned they make the guns stick out too far. When I look at it without shields, it looks sleeker, with shields, not so much. I would like to incorporate some Futhark runes on the model somewhere. The ginaxi, is very hard to do on a small-scale though.

 

Oh some doodlings from a fevered mind, Let me know what you think.

No worries Thorn.

 

So a slow night, made a few mistakes, but overall a little progress. Might put Geironul to one side soon and work to finish off Herja.

 

So I redid the lascannon coils and barrels, as I got paint all over them.

Needs cleaning up. I was going to add just a hint of yellow, by staining th grill inside the head with sepia, but I foolishly tried a little gold and it is bright yellow. Going to take it back to leadbelcher and sepia wash to make the yellowing more subtle.

I did a rough mock up of how it might look on one side. Construction would be thin card, with details layered on with the thin card to give it a 3-D effect.

2 reasons for not running with it are:

 

It could get a bit big and look comical rather than cool.

Because the heads would be either side of hte hatch, it looks more like a funeral bier rather than a long

I'm not really a fan of the figure head. Feels a bit off. Everything else is amazing though.

Like I said, for some reason they remind me of either a sled or one of those things you see dead warriors carried on (a bier or something), so ultimately it will be dropped.

 

I have ideas to convert up a caestus to have a longship prow, so I can mount a dragon head on it, I think it would be more suiting to that, or a Stormwolf.

 

In the meantime, I am going with RT era legion symbols for my Space Wolves.

Personally on mymarines, I prefer the red and grey as it just looks more..... Professional, and is less of a pain to paint at that scale, but the old red & yellow has a certain charm to it.

Problem with building a wall Bladewolf, is that walls do not stop shadows, and that is where the Raven Guard excel at striking from.

 

As far as I am aware all 3 of us are Wolves....

 

Anyhoo, I have decided to call time on Geironul. She needs some tidy up work. I need to strip the magnets from the quad lascannons and replace it with 3mm rod so the sponsons can swivel properly and not keep popping out. Could be due to the3mm magnets in the lascannons being affected by the 5mm magnets holding the sponsons on.

 

I also need to find, paint and fit the guards which go over the lascannons too.

 

The main reason for calling quits now, is tat I am getting too involved. I want to paint every panel and do something different in each area. It will become overlaod and rather than looking Fenryka, as I envision it, it'll look like Liberacce got hold of it. (ie as gaudy as an Emperors Children)

 

Geironul is supposed to have been with the the legion since before leaving Terra, and I wanted to do some old school markings, transitioning to the knotwork and runic symbols more associated with Fenris. I have a feeling that I am reaching a tipping point.
