I like the tattoo work, I wish I was steady enough to copy.

and love the hiking grounds. As a history dork, I love how far back the land's history goes and that you can interact with it.

Gorgoff: Red?

The sakura micron pens do make it easier to work on, I reckon a super diluted coat of Kislev or Cadian flesh will do a good job of blending the ink into the skin to make it look more natural.

I reckon for best effect though, I should try it on heads which are not attached to models.

No real model stuff done today.

Yet! Brought the knight pilot and a Leviathan torso with me in case I get bored of painting silver.

Was in GW on Saturday buying paints... The gw staffer asked what army I was working on & I told him 30K Wolves... He was trying to sell me the monthly WD which I almost bought, but darn it, I am going to hold on to my cash for Russ!!

Had a nice cha about the Russ model, although he didn't say anything much except about details we can see in the pictures released.

Kept telling me I should buy it for the £18 Slaughter Priest & convert it to wulfen.... Not sure if that means Wulfen are going to be in Inferno?!?

Confused... Maybe he just heard Space Wolves and went aha Wulfen!

Now I wanna buy the magazine

Gah, first world problems!!

Oh and my laptop seems to have died. Fortunately it resurrected itself long enough for me to back up all the important files. Now when it does start up but the screen etc is all blank!!

  • 1 month later...

Been away a while, working on some Grey Knights.

I also have this little side project running too.

Over in the Space Wolves forum, we are doing something called the Colours of War.

Basically those who took part in the ETL are invited to make a Space Wolves banner bearer and they will then pass it on to another Space Wolves player, in a secret Santa way. Only about 6 of us are taking part but it is fun, and a nice way to cap off a great ETL.

I am painting mine in my 30K colour scheme as he would have been run with tactical veterans as the vexilla had I chose to keep him

My contribution thus far

Apologies for the tiny pictures, photobucket is giving me loads of grief

The arm needs work, but security confiscated my green stuff, so it will have to wait till I get home. The colours are just blocked in for now, and had a quick play with the sword.

I was thinking for the chest panel with the knotwork to maybe do it in a dark brown like a leather patch with maybe a gold inlay.

Not sure yet.

Early days

What are your thoughts?

Thanks for looking

Thanks Cessna & Hrolf, your comments are much appreciated.

I had a frustrating night last night with painting.

Tried doing facial tattoos, had to repaint the face 4 times..... grrr!

Got to about this point before deciding to take a break, will tidy and finish up one side tonight and re do the other to match

I also tried something new wit the front plates, decided to do the smaller symbols as bone with rune carvings and the larger panel as leather with a gold inlay, the bone cam out nice but need to correct the gold. Can't tell if it is the was which has dulled it or the brown got in the grooves. Tidy up the edges around the armour and jobs a good 'un.

Let me know what you think & thanks for looking :)

You are seeing it right!

I tacked the arm and brought some GS with me to make the flexible joint, however as it was not in packaging it got confiscated. I will have to use milliputt when I get home to fix it up.

Milliputt cannot be taken offshore because it is an irritant however GS is fine, but as I had already used it and it wasn't in packaging they decided not to take the risk.

Or just leave it missing and do gore etc all over the arm as if it got hacked into during a fight and the arm is barely functioning

I am badly struggling too.

The head not being symmetrical is an absolute pain. In the end I squiggled and then used the paint to bring it roughly in line.

2 nights of shear frustration!!

Now to re-do the face again and tidy up.

Can then put a few doodles and weather and done.

Baby steps

Still not 100% happy with the face but will call it quits for now.

Looking at the gauntlets, toes and elbows, I have begun some "weathering" not too extreme I hope!!

Should I do both knees red? or switch the bone and red around, as I feel there is a lot of red down one of the model.

Also what design should I do on the fore-arm and leg, if any??

Thoughts??

Thanks for looking :)

Not to worry... The practice weathering will help with my breachers and other models to get a more realistic look to them.

Totem pole does some kick-ass weathering on his Astartes, and I am badly trying to emulate his scratched armour technique

That guy is a true master...

I have to admit, doing the chipping effect is scary.

I thought it didn't pop much on the Praetor, so I went with Administratum grey when sponging.

Oh my Word!!

It looked like he had been through a storm of seagull guano!

After dabbing the black on it, it toned down a lot and looked like an edge highlight to the damage.

Next time I will use a very dark grey..

It should work on your Wolves, but I'd test on a bit of sprayed sprue first.

I was not hat smart, but I think I got away with it.

Tonight  finish off the armour and move on to another secret project ;)

Measure up the banner tomorrow :)

So a few folks have asked about the grey.

It is very very easy to do.

I use only GW paints so far as they have been the only ones I have managed to get offshore so far"!!

My models start primed black

I will then give him a coat of 1:1 mechanius standard grey & black

Then a drybrush of Standard Mechanicus Grey

Then a lighter drybrush of 1:1 Standard Mechanicus Grey: Dawnstone

http://i1206.photobucket.com/albums/bb456/dantay_xv/untitled007.png

Then a very light drybrush of Dawnstone, really just catching the very edges

And a very edge highlight of dawnstone
