894.M30 – 501st Expeditionary Fleet – Compliance: 501-18

Thunderous roars filled the air. Thousands of bestial voices raised in one deafening call to war. Sergeant Nerva slammed a fresh drum magazine into his bolter and prepared to face the next wave. The rest of his squad were doing likewise, using the brief respite to check weapons and replenish ammunition. The Legionnaires snapped into action at the sound of hundreds of engines revving. 

 

“Stand and address brothers! Here they come again!”

 

Sergeant Nerva sprinted to the barricade alongside his squad. Made of fallen ruble and the green-skinned corpses of the foe, it was hasty but effective defense line. To his right the armored chassis of Venerable Nidon disengaged from a cluster of ammunition servitors and marched to aid the defense. Down the line other tactical squads from 18th company, as well as the vindicators Killing Blow and Final Word, moved into position. 

 

Orks. 

 

One of the first races encountered by the forces of the Great Crusade. Hostility and savagery bottled in tenacious, muscle-bound bodies made for war without end. Possessed of cunning and endless ingenuity, they were a plague that the Imperium of Man had vowed to cure with bolters and chainswords.

 

 The horde of Ork vehicles came racing across the no-man’s land in front of the Blood Angel line. Sergeant Nerva’s jaw tightened in anticipation, combat stimulants flooding his veins in response to his heightened brain activity. 

 

“Maybe today.”

 

Sergeant Nerva glanced to his left in surprise. Centurion Azor Solon stood at the barricade, staring with cold fury at the encroaching xenos. His features were a marred echo of the primarch’s perfection. The black jump pack on his back idled quietly.

 

“Sir?”

 

The Centurion said nothing. Sergeant Nerva wasn’t even sure he had heard him. Before he could speak again, the Moritat ignited his jump pack and blasted towards the oncoming enemy tide. Venerable Nidon’s amplified voice echoed down the line. 

 

“Support the Centurion! Open fire brothers!”

 

18th Company reacted as one and unleashed the fury of the legion.

Well folks I finally put the finishing touches on the Azor Solon, Venerable Nidon, and the last five members of Squad Nerva. This puts me at 3/5 completions for my first ETL vow! Just the Terminators and the boss man Praetorian Rafael Kyros to go! As always let me know if you've got any tips, advice, comments, or critiques to offer, They really help keep the motivation train a rollin'. Enjoy!

Everything is superb! The tacticals, the dread, and I have to admit it but even the mess of an Iron Warrior.

 

What really gets me going is that Moritat Azor Solon. He was awesome in WIP and beyond so finished up. I would love to read a novel about that guy.

You know the templars and wardens of 30,000 underwhelm you when even Flint13 doesn't manage to impress you with her version. Still well painted though.

I love your mostly plastic tactical squad, your moritat and your terminators, Brother Heinrich. And I don't even like true scale marines in the first place. However, it seems the terminator on the far right has the blade of his axe lopsided compared to the spike on the other side of the haft. Is it just me?

Wow very nice loved the crushed marine what are you using for shoulder pads? Just the GW ones?

Thanks! Yeah for the tactical Marines all the Blood Angel shoulders are from the new kit/Death Company, the other shoulders are a mix of FW ones.

Your red is exceptional, really. I'm thinking about BA allies to my WS, I would like to be able to make them look like that...

 

The Moritat is awesome, but what I prefer is the reference to Hyenidae IW :p All loyalists should make trophies in reference to famous traitor hobbyists. I've got some planned myself (apart for Hyenidae, already done :))

mmmmmoritat! Loving this. The simple menace of your centurion assassin is sick, I'm attempting to get something of the same look to my xx legion one. 

 

I've always had trouble posing Contemptors in simple yet menacing poses, did you try a few with bluetac first, or just wing it?

Holy fracking everything, Heinrich. I don't come here for two weeks and then there's... all... this. I saw your WIPs of the plasma dude and was like: 'WOW'. Then there's the contemptor that made me rip my eyes out I want to start another one so badly (and let's face it, the WE one is to most awesome of them all - and I have a generic one and a SoH one lying around waiting for paint, so another WE one has to wait). Then there's a five man squad of awesomesauce, and THEN you have them all painted! AAARGH! I hate you a little. Just a little, because duuude. That Vexilarius. The skulls on the chain on the chin of the dread. The plasma reaver. The simple yet incredibly effective BA iconography on the dread. The posing. Your reds. The plasma glow. That custom made bionic leg. The knives everywhere. That completely mauled Iron Warrior on the base. Everything is just. So. Awesome. Screw you, man. tongue.png

you sir are a gold plated, red painting, bad ass godling... like golly gee those tacs are so charactfull they look so IX legion it's unreal. the gw blood angels kits are really good and you enhance the snot out of them man. the red you get is so deep so rich it's luxurious in the extreme I envy you're skill. I love the mention of the Glorious VII in you're fluff and I love the idea of these to legions working in tandem. bravo sir you're work is an inspiration and I love them topknots

Hey everyone, no fluff with this update because, 1) life is busy with finals and work, and 2) my hobby furnace is going full bore with 30k and 40k projects right now (as well as a strange green fungus I just picked up.... ;) )

Thanks man! Loving your Alpha Legion so far! I've built a couple Contemptors before so I knew what I was in for, but blu-tac can help if it's your first go around with the kit.

The paint job on Nerva's face is fantastic, not to mention the rest.

The banner is cool. You hit the Roman aesthetic bang on with that one, dude.

Thanks dude, and your Seraph are a huge inspiration to me man, don't discredit yourself! And no the terminators and praetor are just to finish out my first ETL vow, I plan on adding a couple rhinos (see above), another Tactical Squad, 2 Vindicators, 6 Jetbikes, a drop pod for Venerable Nidon, a Lightning Primaris, and maybe a Landraider down the road.

Okay these are incredible. Pretty much cemented me doing heresy BA. I love the Moritat! Did you use much plastic stuff? Looks like there's a bit in with the resin.

Awesome news! Hail the IX and hail Sanguinius! As for the Moritat, the arms and legs are GW plastics, as are the plasma pistols (one's from the Raptor kit, but keep that on the hush hush lol), the head is a Centurion Devastator head and the chest and jetpack are the only FW resin bits.

Sorry, I meant more in general did you use a lot of plastic bits, they look bloody good mixed with the resin here. Thanks for the parts breakdown on the Moritat though, much easier to rip off now :P and that Praetor looks amazing.

Nice work, dude!! The head and Khârn's torso look great! Khârn's torso in particular. You get that anatomical IX Legion look, but in a more gladiatorial/less cartoonish style. I can't believe I haven't considered using that head for a III Legion character before. A really awesome selection of bits.

 

Really looking forward to some fluff for Kyros :tu:
