Hot damn. Excellent work here, people.

I love the plumes on the TDA, they really do call that art piece to mind immediately Also, great work on the moritat - although I can't believe you both thought of and got away with using a raptor weapon on a Blood Angel..?! It looks really good, and the cables running to his pistols really scream "chainfire".

Flint, your Templars are very characterful and I like them. The sangguard blade on the EC sword arm produces a really unique and distinctive result. Very nice shade of black on the armour, too.

How have I missed seeing this these past few months?

First-off, hot damn, and secondly, this is damn'ed hot. My hat is off to both of you on such a well-done collaboration.
Heinrich, you BA's are especially inspiring, seeing as that's a Legion I have little love for, with few exceptions.

Keep it up, the both of you!

By the way Heinrich, what's that thunder hammer made out of? I can see the counterwieght spike is the beak of a corvus hammer (amazing idea btw) but what's the hammerhead itself, and where did the haft come from underneath the greenstuff? The whole thing is very eyecatching and the pose is great.

Sorry, I meant more in general did you use a lot of plastic bits, they look bloody good mixed with the resin here. Thanks for the parts breakdown on the Moritat though, much easier to rip off now tongue.png and that Praetor looks amazing.

Oh yeah, all my vehicles and tac marines use GW plastics, basically just tasteful additions of shoulder pads and helmets from FW.

Nice work, dude!! The head and Khârn's torso look great! Khârn's torso in particular. You get that anatomical IX Legion look, but in a more gladiatorial/less cartoonish style. I can't believe I haven't considered using that head for a III Legion character before. A really awesome selection of bits.

Really looking forward to some fluff for Kyros thumbsup.gif

Thanks man! Yeah I ordered Khârn and chopped him up lol. Pretty much used everything but his right arm, head, and shoulderpads.

Well, that Praetor is glorious. What head did you use on him? Also, damn you for making me want to do a jetbike character now.....

Thanks man! It's from the Space Wolf range, can't remember which unit though.

@ jack - The head is from the Space Wolves thunder wolves box if I remember correctly.

The heads were the only good thing in that whole box smile.png

haha agreed.

Hah also I literally just scored a BNIB Sammaul (master of the ravenwing) in metal brand new! For $20! (AU)

I swear it happened before and independently of my seeing this new lord. msn-wink.gif

Jetbikes FTW

Nice!

Oh the Praetorian is great. Love the conversion. The shade of red you have on your BA is great.

Thanks Hydra!

Glad you're enjoying the BA man, thanks!

The thunder hammer is a corvus hammer with the hammer end replaced by a regular terminator thunderhammer that I shaved the silly lightning bolts off of. The haft is a brass rod wrapped in greenstuff that I then ran through a cable maker to get the ribbed haft effect. Brother Chaplain Kage made a great tutorial on how to do it.

Descent of Reaper Angels: Part 1

The howling of engines echoed along the canyon walls as two legion Storm Eagles soared through it. Each craft wove between the towering pillars of red basalt that thrust from the canyon floor in a preternatural display of skill and reflex. The leading craft, clad in crimson, tipped a wing to avoid a rocky outcrop and fed even more power to the afterburners. The second ship, emblazoned in black and ivory, kept pace behind. Within its cargo bay, eight towering figures stood maglocked to docking cradles.  The occasional whine of a compensating servo and the growling hum of active war plate from the individual arming gantries were the only clues that the Janua Domitor heavy assault squad was active.

Janus Virprellan, first of the Domitor frowned within his warhelm and flexed his grip on the plasma rifle at his side.  A subdued click heralded the connection of a com-channel from his seneschal, Kaedahn.

“We place much on the word and theories of a World Eater, Sergeant.”

A short vox-blurt preceded Virprellan’s reply. It could have been a derisive snort or an amused chuckle.

“Aye, Kae. But if any of the legions understand the greenskin mind, it is the Twelfth.”

Across the craft from Janus, the Praetor of the 59th stood impassive, chainfist retracted to inactive standby and hulking thunder hammer locked into an iron grip. The red lenses of Braerion Vaughn’s Templar helm were locked straight ahead, the reflection of Virprellan’s own warhelm caught in their crimson sheen.

A short range vox-hail from the leading Storm Eagle barked across the interior of the bay.

“Cousins,” it snapped, “We are commencing our attack run, deploy on our mark. Dorn guide you.”

The echoing clang and crash of inaccurate but prolific anti-aircraft fire began to sound from outside the Storm Eagle’s hull.

Vaughn’s voice crackled from his Cataphractii plate, “Confirmed. Coordinates locked to Forgelord Vohr’s directives. Burn the xenos, for Dorn and the Angel.”

Both Storm Eagles banked as they exited the mouth of the parched canyon. Beneath them, stretching out and away was a living tide of greenskins. In the far distance, the besieged city of Castellai Tercius spewed a roiling cloud of smoke skyward, its outermost reaches already burning from the ork invaders. The gunners of the green horde had begun to take notice of the racing craft, but what few guns tracked them struggled to keep up with their low, burning trajectory. With less than twenty meters between wing-tips, the paired Eagles let loose with their mounted rocket pods in a strafing run. Contrails of smoke followed the warheads as they detonated, sending arching blossoms of fire into the sky. The incendiaries contained within the munitions roared as they caught in green flesh. Banking around, the aircraft swept lower, pods still shrieking as they disgorged their payload.

The engines of the Storm Eagles howled as they both dropped into a hover above the fire swept landscape. Auxiliary weapons coming live and autoloaders cycling, heavy bolters and underwing missile banks began to clear deeper clefts into the horde. The side doors of the black Storm Eagle slammed open as the Praetor of the 59th stepped to the threshold. Even this far above the conflagration of the ignis-frag rockets, his warplate began to flash a temperature warning across the inside of his helm lens. Even over the crackling roar of the burning desert below, Vaughn could hear the roar of the greenskins. He looked across the intervening space to the sister ship, a crimson-clad Cataphractii mirroring his own ready position. He thought he could almost see the confident, snarled smile of the IX legion veteran behind the red warhelm.

Without a word, Braerion Vaughn stepped forward into empty air and fell into hell.

Nice work, Flint! I was just wondering when we were going to see some more work from you. The highlights on the black armour are pretty impressive. You've found the sweet spot between too many highlights (making the armour look grey) and too few (making the armour look plain and unfinished). ]

Good to see you back at it :tu:

Second that, your black is awesome.

Morning guys! Thanks for all the lovely replies.

@ Jack - Ah, Swayze. About the best compliment I could receive (or maybe Russell?... b/c Kurt Russell and Patrick Swayze are the same person.)

@ Recon - He may indeed be in the pipeline sometime soon. As soon as I pick out a good helm for him.

@ Kizzdougs - Isn't it a bit poetically apropos that  you like how I paint black, since I'm still hella envious of how you paint whites? :D

@ One-eye - Thanks! I'll admit that I borrowed the initial idea from a Warseer gent called Rez who uses it for Gray Knights. It's actually pretty darn simple if about a half dozen steps, but I think it makes a really darn good looking super dark blue-black.

Glad to hear it pays off well!

@ Krieg - Always glad to hear it.

@ Dimdim - Oh, I'm still around. Just had to move apartments in non-digital life though, so it put a bit of a hitch in my hobby time.

@ Jimbo - Thanks. Heinrich helps lots ^_^

I feel like black humor separates the Joe Abercrombies of the world from the CS Gotos.

@ Aquilanus - No sir. Flint does Seventh Legion First Company Templar.

The Sons of Dorn we can agree on though :D

The cataphractii certainly interest me more than the templars and wardens. Great job, Flint13.

And I see the trend of using vindicators for rhinos started by Augustus b'Raass continues, Brother Heinrich. tongue.png Will you drill the exhaust pipes? Good job on the jetbike commander too.

Correction: it's the other way around. Credit where credit is due: as with the merged MkIV and Contemptor dreadnought Plasma Cannon; Heinrich started it, I merely copied! thumbsup.gif (Speaking of which, Heinrich, when oh when will that contemptor stand In Midnight Clad?)

Thanks man, but the lineage of the vindicator armor plates on rhinos goes back before me to Dan the Deamon, who's Night Lords 18th Battle Company Blog inspired me to do mine: http://www.bolterandchainsword.com/topic/172506-night-lords-18th-battle-company/?p=2464536

Heinrich....

Holy hell man. That terminator squad. That warhammer. Dat plasma blaster (though I made one from Huron's heavy flamer in a similiar manner but with a volkite caliver barrel).

Whoever said they were going to come to get those terminators, I'm right behind. I'll let them go first to catch any traps you have placed around the terminators of course ;)

I made an account literally for the sole purpose of asking you what paint range and shades you use on your angels. With the announcement of Blood Angels heresy upgrade kits at this past open day I'm getting ready to take my collection back in time. I want to differentiate my 40k BA from my 30k BA with the paint scheme, so I'm thinking about getting serious with an airbrush, and I love the brown-red colour you have on your Angels, I just have to know your recipe!
