Descent of Reaper Angels: Part 2

 

The squeal of unspooling cables cut through the crackling roar of the conflagration about them as fourteen armored juggernoughts crunched into dunes of shifting ash and charred bone.  Temperature warnings spiked red inside armored warhelms, warplates’ sensor suites cutting through the billowing smoke and twisting flame trails. None glanced skywards as the pitch of the dual Storm Eagles’ engines rose to a roar and both aircraft banked back towards the canyon that had sheltered their initial drop run.

The closest surviving orks were just starting to recover from the initial bombardment, their hardy xenos physiology beginning to shrug off the concussive shock waves and non-lethal burns. Disciplined bursts of combi-bolter fire began cutting them down as the legion Terminators burst from their roiling cover of ash and embers. Heavier weapons opened up as they came into the clear. Plasma rifles and Kaedahn’s chugging assault cannon cutting down swaths of reeling orks. Dozens of the beasts went down under the withering torrent of fire, even more wounded orks trampled under the feet of their more lucid brethren fighting to reach the Terminators.

Leading both squads, a white armored forge master of the 12th legion charged ahead. The bulk of the Cataphractii suit broke greenskins like saplings under the weight of his armored warplate. Within his grasp, a massive chainaxe roared to life, the blade hurling sprays of hyper-oxygenated vitae with every arcing swing. A lithe servo arm twisted above his head, snapping down to crush skulls and torsos in its iron grasp.


“One xenos dreadnaught entering killzone, two more follow.” Vaughn’s voice carried over a direct link to the World Eater, as he powered the charged thunder hammer through the torso of a heavily armored ork. Behind him, the Imperial Fist and Blood Angel Terminators alike sent punishing torrents of fire into the xenos attempting to surround and pull them down. Combi-bolters barked and power weapons hissed and spat as their energy fields atomized orkish blood.


“It won’t be long now,” the Forge Lord’s vox-voice was cold and robotic, showing no signs of strain even as his two-handed axe rose and fell in threshing arcs.

Armor servos howling, Vaughn’s thunder hammer pulverized the knee joint of the hulking orkish dreadnought. Blade clad arms swinging wildly, the ramshackle iron form crumpled to its side. With a clatter, the armored cockpit cowling dropped open.  The xenos pilot roared as it clamored from the downed machine. Beside Vaughn, Medicae Koan’s combi bolter barked, sending half a dozen bolts into the beast’s chest and reducing it to red mulch.


The terminators fought back to back in a ring, greenskins surrounding them on all sides. The xenos bodies are piled waist high and grew higher still as the beasts hurled themselves at the legion veterans. Fourteen helms snapped up as a deep, earth rattling bellow sounds across the wastes. Through the press of orks, a massive beast armored in riveted iron plates, standing head and shoulders above even the Terminators plowed its way forward. The giant xenos flattened many of its smaller brethren beneath its armored tread as it advanced.


Forge Lord Aldankhar of the 12th backhanded his chainaxe through several advancing xenos, and leveled it at the gargantuan ork, “Vitus, we clear your path. End the beast!”


The terminators of the 7th legion turned as one to break the circle and drive hard through the sea of orks towards the mighty xenos warleader…

Morning all! Thanks for the all the positive feedback. It's always so cool to read all of it after an update ^_^

 

@ sheep - Thanks! One of our biggest drives for this thread was creating an ongoing narrative, so it's always nice to hear if the fluff is entertaining.

 

@ Dantay - thanks budy! ^_^

 

The little pauldron piece is red and gunmetal, most likely a Word Bearer... Allusions of fluffy things to come :D

 

@ Tarvik - Thanks! I'm actually starting to get a few games in with my Eaters now too, and I find a Forge Lord is invaluable for an assault based army.

 

Glad the chainaxe looks the part too. Four other axes had to give their bits up for it!

 

@ Recon - Templar, Angels and Eaters all have a very close combat styled approach to things. I really want to use them to high light how different the legions can be.

 

@ GrandMagus - It is Abaddon's body. I've used it before for a Night Lord terminator chaplain, so I wanted to try it on a "good" guy for a change.

 

@ Barabbas - Always glad to hear it

 

@ Salvation of reason - Sadly no. It's a double barreled combi-Bolter with a double barreled grenade launcher strapped to it :D

 

@ Kizzdougs - Thanks! That's pretty steep praise coming from you, Mr. Dougs :D

 

Vaughn's helm is indeed from the Skullcrushers kit. Since I play a Khorne/Slaaneshi cult in fantasy I have tons of Khorne bits sitting around. It's amusing how well it worked for a Templar helm as soon as the crest was removed.

@ Midnight - Thanks! I always try to switch up fluff between actually advancing the story, little snippets of stuff going on and a couple of different formats. Hopefully it all comes together near the end.
