WarriorFish
He looks great! The skin came out very well as did the beaten armour and I like the glowing blue, another excellent completion with promotions to match! Good stuff :tu: We're in the run down to the deadline now, I still spy quite a few incomplete vows! The day still has plenty of hours left in until the cut off this evening (British time) so there's still a chance for glory, look no further than Jono's completion as evidence! There's also some missing background pieces - is a promotion really not worth a few minutes of tapping on your keyboard? Look at my pieces, we're certainly not looking for prize winning prose! The finishing line is within sight, let's give it that last push! :D Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/303867-regiments-of-the-bc-blood-and-glory/page/12/#findComment-3990893 Share on other sites

Arkaniss
Here is my vow complete! Fluff: Corporal Joe Chooi is a grizzled veteran of the 501st and has served many years in loyal service to Commander Bistmakt, following herfrom battlefield to battlefield across the stars. Showing an early aptitude for plasma weaponry and combined with a steely nerve(some would say a requirment for being a plasmagunner) and iron discipline he was a rising star within the best of the Swaibianstock. His plasmagun is as with all 7th Kingdom wargear an ancient relic and Chooi has never once had a misfire or overheat indecades of service. He named her Natalie. If the name has any meaning to the Corporal he has never confirmed or denied.Tech Adepts have long since given up trying to figure out why this one plasmagun has suddenly shown a disinclination to kill it'suser, though occasionally a young overzealous Adept might try his luck only to be disappointed. Chooi himself dutifully puts upwith such intrusions and only says that he believes that his insistance on never touching Natalie with bare hands and lovinglycleaning and caring for her is the answer. He even has a blanket he carries around with which he rolls up Natalie at night to keepher safe and protected.Experiments in giving other plasmagunners an extra blanket and gloves have so far proven unsuccessful in reducing plasma overheats.Reading his file an outsider might be surprised that such a soldier is only a Corporal, even more so at his age. Anyone who thinksthis however is clearly showing that not only do they not know the man but that they probably haven't even met him. Chooi isdevoted to his commanding officer and the simple fact is that once he made it as far up as the commanders retinue he simplystopped showing an interest in further promotion. He is jokingly referred to as a bit of a cliche as he plays the grizzled veteran of countless campaigns very well. Younger troopswill stare at his weathered and cracked face and marvel at his seemingly inexhaustible backlog of annecdotes and stories about hislife. Despite shaving every day as per regulation he seems to have a permanent 5 o'clock shadow which only seems to enhance hisreputation.Anybody who knows the strange connection between Chooi and Bistmakt is long dead, both of them venerable old soldiers andattempting to get any information from them is a fools errand. Observers can only note that Chooi is clearly devoted to hiscommander and takes very seriously his duty in protecting her on and off the battlefield. Bistmakt herself obviously trusts thisold soldier implicitly and it is a rare sight indeed not to see them together. Whether it's on the battlefield giving orders or ina command tent planning the next operation, anyone in her proximinty feels the constant presence of Corporal Chooi. He watcheseveryone, not matter their rank or apparant trustworthiness - no-one is above his suspicion or steely gaze.Inquisitors, Tech Priests, Generals, Admirals or even Astartes, it matters not to Chooi. He will stare balefully at anyone who getstoo close to Bistmakt and is ever ready to unleash the arcane power of Natalie to protect her. To this day no assassin ormalcontent has ever made an attempt on Comander Bistmakt, over many decades of service there has not once been any threat, publicor otherwise to her life. If Chooi knows something everyone else doesn't or if he's just oveprotective no-one knows. One this is for sure though, wherever Commander Bistmakt deems her prescence needed most on the battlefield there will beCorporal Chooi and Natalie. Fellow command squad comrades have come and gone, some to the side of the Emperor, others onwards andupwards to greater things but Chooi is always there. As such the soldiers under Bistmakt's command are confident in victory nomatter the odds - one glance at their fearless Commander leading the way and her unflappable bodyguard shooting his plasmagun ascarefree as if it were a humble Lasgun is enough to know that it's business as usual and once more the Emperor shall be victorious. Existing Regiment Fluff: HISTORYLike many other systems Swaibia was plunged into darkness during the Age of Strife and while all knowledge of what happened waslost, Imperial records note that upon reintroduction to the rest of mankind after the warp storms ended the planet of Swaibia IIIwas the only planet with any life left, the other 2 habited planets being nothing more than barren husks. Whatever internal strifethat reduced them to ruin was unable to be discovered. The inhabitants of Swaibia III, if indeed they knew anything, refused to give anything away to the inquiries of the Imperials. Whatthey did find was a series of independent kingdoms - 6 in total, each of which only too happy to tell all about why the otherkingdoms were not to be trusted, cowardly, traitorous and deserving nothing but death and destruction. The various kingdoms were constantly at a state of war with at least one other faction, however they came about being lost to thevoids of time and presumably the reasons for them all being at each other throats constantly with it. Cut off from any forge Worldand at a constant state of conflict their equipment was old technology, several editions behind the Imperial forces who came to theplanet. Soldiers re-used guns, armour, helmets, tanks, aircraft - everything was recycled and nothing could be wasted. Despite thistechnological deficit the forces of the planet were battle hardened and disciplined. A fact that Imperial observers did not miss. The Imperium wasted no time in threatening, coercing and persuading all the kingdoms to come together and accept Imperial rule.Being backed up by a vast and powerful fleet and army most likely helped the Swaibians see the error of their ways. Though thefirst few decades were a trial with no end of disagreements and misunderstandings (deliberate or otherwise), almost coming to blowsmore times than anyone cares to remember. However the all encompassing comfort of being reunited with mankind under the leadershipof this new Emperor helped put things into perspective... not to mention first contact with Xenos.A central location was selected to avoid insult to any of the Kingdoms and a manufactorum was set up to ensure the Swaibians wouldbe kept supplied. Over time military installations and training grounds sprung up around it as the font of all weapons and armour, creating a miniature realm unto itself. Under the watchful eye of Imperial observers the Swaibians were brought into line andprepared for joining the countless billions of humans under arms in the Emperor's name. During this acclimatisation period oldfeuds still reared their ugly heads and despite outward appearances of unity there were still simmering tensions between the forcesof the 6 Kingdoms. This was to be expected and the Imperial liaisons were mostly prepared for any incident, after all Swaibia waslucky to be far from any Xenos threat and it was all to easy for them to forget about the perils of the universe and concentrate ontheir own petty rivals and conflicts. However, as the saying goes foreign travel narrows the mind wonderfully. After the firstbattle against the Orks the Swaibians found it a lot easier to come together and unite against the common foe.Which is not to say they had it easy. Their first battle was a pyrrhic victory at best, their armies only just holding back the Orkonslaught with terrible casualties. The Swabians were shocked and appalled at the ferocity of the greenskin and baffled by theirunconventional warfare. The Swaibians would have to learn quickly the new rules of war if they were to survive. So the Swaibian armies moulded together in the crucible of war, their force shrinking after every campaign but becoming well versedin the modern art of war against all the foes imaginable. Blood feuds hundreds of years old were forgotten, bonds were forged anewin the light of the Emperor - kingdoms which spared no quarter to each other previously now competed for accolades and glory in theGreat Crusade... but it was not to last. The Horus Heresy was in motion and the terrible events of those years were to changeeverything. As with many chronicles of the Heresy, as indeed the Age of Strife before it, today no clear picture can be conjured of whathappened. It is certain that the Swabians sided with the loyalist forces but what they did, where they were and what happened tomost of them none can say. Many years after events had settled and the Imperial forces began to pick up the pieces one fragment ofthe Swaibian army returned to their home world. The 501st numbered only just over half a million soldiers and they were exhaustedand broken. The survivors retreated to their barracks to lick their wounds, none of them returning to their original homes. Thesewere dark times for the whole Imperium, but the spirit of mankind cannot be broken. The 501st would rebuild the Swaibian warmachine and rejoin the fight for mankind's survival. The Imperium would climb back up the cliff it had fallen down and theSwabiians vowed to do their part once more.THE 7TH KINGDOMAfter the loss of so many men and women in the Great Crusade the Swabians declared that from henceforth there would always be a501st Regiment under arms in honour of the few who made it home. The barracks and infrastructure around the Manufactorum were givenover to the 501st (a formality as any attempts to entice them out met with failure) and was enshrined in law for eternity as aseparate realm, independent of any of the other 6 Kingdoms. The 501st would be kept in existence by filling it with the bestsoldiers from all the kingdoms, outfitted with the very weapons that the original members carried into the Great Crusade. This bodyof men and women would carry with them the scarred lasguns, battle tanks and flags of their ancestors - with them they would smitethe foes of the Emperor like they did before at the pinnacle of human endeavour. Thus would those days never die and they wouldstand eternal alongside the Emperor himself. So it has always been - the 501st is always kept at full strength, skimming the verybest from other regiments to keep it at fighting strength and leading from the front. The 501st are put in the most criticalpositions, the most forlorn attacks and the most desperate defences. Each time they have not been found wanting. Some say the light of the Emperor from the times of the Great Crusade still resides in the ancient wargear they use, spurring themonto great acts of valour, always snatching victory from the jaws of defeat. Whatever it is the men and women of the 501st rightlybelieve they are the best that Swaibia has to offer. There is a unique esprit de corps in the regiment, surpassing all previousfealty to Kingdom or ruler. They were nicknamed the 7th Kingdom - as a separate kingdom with no land, no history and no oldrivalries - and some say even then that the 7th Kingdom resides back in the legendary days of the Great Crusade when the Emperorhimself still strode among mortals. So it is that to be in the 501st is to be closer to the glorious days of the Great Crusade, their brave ancestors and to theEmperor himself. Who could not feel a part of something special, a part of a greater cause and belief when the humble lasgun inyour grip once crossed the stars in the name of the Emperor to unite the fragmented children of Mankind? Great work, though perhaps the pictures were in haste but better than failing... The colour scheme is a good mix of colours, the white and red work well as accents simple but effective - best of all on an old school Cadian model :D A well earned promotion to Warrant Officer Class 2 :) What more proof is needed comrades? Just over five hours remain but that's still enough time! Get your vows in as soon as you can to beat the deadline! Simon Ros
Vow complete:Company Background: Company Background: Miranda Prime is slightly larger than Terra, with a 1.2g in gravitational pull. It has almost zero tilt towards the sun which makes for a hot equator and large frozen north and south pooles. Several oceans cover the planets, and a large and sprawling mountain range dominates much of the equator. The landscape varies between desert areas, large fertile river deltas just below the mountains, and the garden hive cities which has made the planet famous. Miranda Prime frequently contributes regiments to war efforts outside of the system. In 157993.M41, after engaging the orks of Waaagh Glach at Yoribia Tertius, the 317th Infantry Company attached to the 21st Mirandan Regiment was destroyed in the final assault on the warlords stronghold. All soldiers were presumed lost in the battle. As a result the 66th Administrative Section at Miranda Prime was tasked by the ruling council of Miranda with raising the company anew. The 66th Administrative Section conferred with the division for population control, and discovered that the 35th district of the hive city of Jayden showed a promising rate of growth during the past twenty-year period. Jayden is a city situated just south of the equator at the foot of a large mountain with one point five billion inhabitants. A census was therefore conducted in 089995.M41 to find eligable female candidates between eighteen and twenty five in the 35th district. Forced drafting proved for the most part unnecessary, as enough volunteers were forthcoming. The 35th district lies on the farthest outskirts of Jayden. The company will therefore be well acquainted with urban environments. Since the districts also includes some desert areas together with some farmland villages situated along rivers flowing from the southern mountains, the company will be well adapted to desert conditions as well. After drafting procedures closed, training of the company commenced in 008996.M41, at designated areas in Militarum Command. Veterans were transferred from the 142th and 77th Infantry Companies to form a temporary command structure during training. Skyler Riverside (infantry squad): +++ Transmitter: 798th Clerk XX XX, 66th Administrative Section. ++++++ Receiver: Militarum Command +++Skyler Riverside. Born in 974.M41. Proficiency in history and agriculture. On advice, parents decided for novice studies at age thirteen in a major cathedral of Jayden. Two reports of gross misconduct reported in first year: details obtainable by further request. Illegitimate discontinuation of service after two years, warrant circulated by Ministorum officials.Found by arbiters at family farm at 995.M41. Sentenced to life sentence in service of the Glorious Emperor in 996.M41, and subsequently assigned to the newly founded 317th Infantry Company. Phoenix Skyborn (company command squad): +++ Transmitter: 798th Clerk XX XX, 66th Administrative Section. +++ +++ Receiver: Militarum Command +++ Phoenix Skyborn. Born in 975.M41. Four parents and three siblings. One parent ranked senator, other parents high ranking officials. Attended preparatory training for the Astra Militarum at age five. Commenced military training at age of twelve, officer's training at age fifteen. Promoted delayed because of misconduct in training mission. Punishment issued and carried out. Graduated in 993.M41 and was assigned to the 78th Infantry Company, which was deployed to put down the short rebellion of one of the frozen outer planets. Toxichobbit
Colonel Stratton Affectionately nicknamed “Lord Snooty” by his troops, Colonel Stratton is Cadian nobility through and through. A consummate strategist, Stratton has been in command of the Cadian 61st for over two decades. Although he is no stranger to front line combat, Stratton prefers to lead from the back, coordinating the forces under his command rather than rushing headlong into opposing forces. On the rare occasions when he does lead personally, he is seen commanding his troops from vantage points over-looking the battlefield. Over his career Stratton has earned a prestigious number of medals, but refuses to even remove them from their cases on all but the most important occasions. His only notable concession to his honours is a victory sash that he wears tied around his waist. When going into battle, Stratton wears a set of ornate flak armour over an officer's long coat. He carries a finely crafted wooden gripped laspistol and a basked hilted officer's power sword, although the latter is purely for appearance as, by his own admission, Stratton is a terrible swordsman. Corporal Wade Although it's not unusual for Cadian units to have female members, Corporal Wade is notable for having joined a Shock Troop regiment at such a young age. As soon as her tour in the Whiteshield's was over, Wade got on with the business of having her first child, which in turn freed her from any civilian duties and allowed her to enlist as a full Shock Trooper. Even though she's only been in the 61st for a few years, she is already a squad leader, assisting her Sergeant in leading 812th Squad. She has also been noted as having excellent marksmanship skills, especially during high pressure situations. As a result, she has been marked as a possible candidate for Kasrkin training, providing she survives long enough that is. I'm not going to do any regimental background this time around, two models both with their own background is quite enough for now. I'll do some regimental background for one of the later events when I'm feeling more inspired. @ Warriorfish - funny you should mention the base as that's not going to be the Colonel's base. I didn't have time to do the one I wanted for him so I just painted up one of the one's I've made for a normal Guardsman. The Colonel's will be similar, but instead of having normal flagstones he'll be standing upon part of an Imperial Aquilla carved into the stone (or rockcrete or whatever). Something like this but on a smaller scale.
