WarriorFish
Not too much progress, but I'm still at the "building up" stage. Another green coat on the slabshield and the boltgun metal pot opened and I'll have built up enough for some washing. Once that's done I can get to the detail and it'll look much more complete! I get the feeling leaving the carapace off might have added needless work but the decision has been made now I'm well on schedule for completion, I'll spend the remainder of this evening refining the background pieces a bit more Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/303867-regiments-of-the-bc-blood-and-glory/page/6/#findComment-3974557 Share on other sites
our_baz
Good decision leaving the carapace off, it would bug you otherwise when you looked at the model closely seeing the grey underneath. Looking good, those splashes of red work so well. our_baz
For Your Consideration. Astropath Wulff of the order of the Crystal Pyramid. seconded to E company of the 7th Levalloisian Life Guards Regiment Levallois is a mercury sized planet, with two smaller moons which are inhabited. in the Segmentum Pacificus 12 parsecs from the Forgeworld of Stygies. Human population of the planet is in region of 20 billion according to imperial records, with the population split between to hive cities at the poles. The planet is frequently cut off from the rest of the imperium by warp storms that affect the local area. As a result the planet has become self sufficient in terms of producing and training its military, manufacturing weapons of war and training its telepaths and psykers. The polulace its self has a much higher than average incidence of pyskers in comparison to the imperial normal.According to pre-imperial records Levallois has had a human colony since the fall of old night, records indicate the populace to be particulary warp sensitive with a above average level psykers present. Levallois was brought under imperial rule during the early part of M31, however exact details of the expeditionary force that liberated the plant has been purged from imperial records. Local myths surrounding the liberation describe the liberation force as red armoured copper skinned Astartes. The Life Guards was founded directly after the liberation, initially prior to imperial rule they were praetorians to a faction ruler (Tsar) from the southern hive. The recruits would swear an oath of loyalty to the ruler giving the life to the Tsar hence the name life guards. With the transition to imperial rule the oaths of loyalty were changed to the emperor and the tradition continued. Further data from regimental history indicates that as a further act of fealty the Life Guards adopted the bright red tunics in homage to the liberating Astartes and the Imperial Army units that arrived alongside them.During the Horus Hersey planet and regiment remained loyal to the emperor, however as Levallois is on a warp route between Stygies and Terra the planet was of strategic importance to the rebels, and as a result was invaded by forces loyal to the Warmaster. The regiment served valiantly during this time holding the spaceport in the southern hive city for 6 months before relief came in the form of the first legion. Post Hersey the regiment has continued to serve the Imperium with honour on countless war zones. Most notably they were part of 7th army group of the lord commander Solar Macharius crusade, notably they were among forces that brought the planet of Jucha back to the light if the emperor. As the Life Guards are recruited from a Hive world the combat doctrine of the company has been influenced by their homeworld, as a result the Life Guards are specialise in urban warfare. In addition the regiment do not shy away from heavy use of abhumans and psykers, the regiment actively incorporates them into platoons rather than segregation. This has resulted in the regiment to have a higher proportion of pyskers in its ranks, in comparison to the imperial norm. Astropath Wulff is one of the oldest living members of the order of the Cyrstal Pyramid. Officail records indicate him to be 110 years old (Terran Standard). He is currently on his 5th rotation with the Life guards, having previously served 15 years previously.Wulff priamrily finds himself attached to the Company Commander of Life Guards were his Divination skills have successfully guided the Regiment to victory on the battlefield. Through manipulating the tides of the warp he has seen the correct course of action for the regiment to take to ensure victory. However as of late Wulff has found the tides of the warp clouded and hard to read....with his dreams haunted by presence of a malevolent alien being. WarriorFish
Thanks guys, I have to remind myself that the model is more done than it looks Once the black wash is applied that's the mundane things done and I can spend a weekend day in the glorious natural daylight doing the interesting details that complete the model I think the background pieces are all but done now, I'll return to them for a final check when posting my completion as usual Plenty of time left for completions, over two weeks - but that time will soon pass as boring and annoying real life gets in the way! Let's all try and get some form of update done this week so we're all on track to cross the finishing line edit: your witch can't sneak in under the nose of the commissariat that easily! ;) Fine attention to the model there, the pallid skin is especially good - well done! :D Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/303867-regiments-of-the-bc-blood-and-glory/page/6/#findComment-3974601 Share on other sites
varchilde
This is the kind of thread that reminds me why I <3 B&C. Master of Ordnance Turing And bio: From a very young age Master of Ordnance Aleyne Turing was always serious and studious. More fascinated by the study of mathematics, data analysis and information management than the care and attention of a Lasgun, his aptitude and gift for quick and ready calculations was recognised as a youth and he attended specialist academy training to learn the art of artillery warfare.Graduating with honours, Turing rose through the ranks of the artillery corps, his quick thinking brain and cold logic a valuable resource in the field. Turing is as distant a man as his artillery pieces are from the front line. He sees the battle field as numbers, flows of information and data rather than as the blood, guts and glory as most of the Imperial Guard, and this lets him keep calm and focused on the complex calculations needed to guide his guns when the enemy fire is falling around him. Armsman "Banjo" Perkins And bio (with a brief nod to Sir TP): The scent of lho stick hung heavy in the air of the mess. The current hand of cards held the majority of the squad’s attention; the atmosphere accompanied by a rolling banjo tune played by Arms man Perkins. That damned banjo! That was the reason for the presence of the final card player and the awful nickname that Special Weapon Squad Bravo Four had acquired in the regiment. It had all started when Bravo Four had been assigned to Inquisitorial escort duty, a simple protection detail for a handful of Ordo specialists to the field. Perkins had bought the banjo along to entertain the squad on downtime as he always did, but the Ordo weapon-tech had been drawn to the music like a moth to a flame. And there lied the problem; now the Ordo-freak was always around Perkins and Bravo Four at every opportunity. They’d tried cold shouldering him, they’d tried scaring him off, hell they’d even complained to superiors for all the good that had done them. So now they just resignedly accepted his prescence. The players had all folded or called except one, and now eyes turned to the hairy orange ape hanging from the rafter. A broad grin grew across the jokaero’s face, and it let out a triumphant “ook” as the last hand of cards was laid on the table. Full house. Sergeant Vimes of “Monkey Squad” turned away in disgust. “I hate you Perkins”. And the army background: Cadian 82nd Special Operations Group; the Ghost Hunters According to the official records and papers of the Administratum, the Cadian 82nd Special Operations Group is a simple Shock Troop Regiment of the Astra Militarum. Brave, loyal, faithful and decorated with Battle Honours in the Emperors name to be sure, but no more or less than would be expected of the Sons of Cadia. The truth is a somewhat different matter; the 82nd are permanently assigned to support the Office of the Holy Inquisition, specifically under the control of Inquisitor Varchilde of the Ordo Malleus. In this function the 82nd prosecute actions under the Inquisitor’s direction and supply support and man power for Varchilde’s war bands and kill teams. If a situation warrants it, the 82nd will be used in conjunction with the formidable Space Marines of the Ordo Malleus; the fabled Grey Knights! In turn the Cadian 82nd receive the support and favour of the Holy Inquisition; the Regiment is well supplied with equipment and resources and can make use of rare and specialised weapons should the occasion call. The Cadian 82nd are a fleet based force, moving quickly from theatre to theatre as circumstances dictate. This mobility follows through in their tactical doctrine; highly mechanised with drop trooper support for rapid insertion. The 82nd maintains a high number of veteran and specialist units, including a number of psychic-sensitives; telepaths are deployed among the 82nd’s command structure as another means of communication between Inquisitor Varchilde’s eclectic forces, and to provide a measure of defence against the warp-beasts and witches they battle against. Command of the 82nd is held by Colonel Staysback; a gruff battle hardened officer who leads his troops from the front line. Discipline and courage are the watch words of the 82nd, but Staysback recognises and values initiative and tactical acumen in his officers. His men are value resources in the Emperor’s service and their lives are not to be spent carelessly. >Reason for edit: Adding the bios Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/303867-regiments-of-the-bc-blood-and-glory/page/6/#findComment-3974604 Share on other sites

our_baz
Chef. Base is sooo simple.GW sand glued base prior to base coat. Kierdale
Great work, all! Our Baz, I really like that Astropath. I wish I'd done a paler skintone on my psykers. Maybe I'll save something that pale for void-born characters. I do need to do a master of the fleet sometime... I cannot agree more with Lord commissar WarriorFish that you can only improve by experimenting. :tu: Chefzilla try drybrushing with less paint than you think you'll need, and just keep brushing back and forth until it starts to take. Better to take your time than use too much. The robes of my psykers were a Death World Forest base with Cadian Green drybrushed over it then Ogryn Green drybrushed lighter (both in paint volume and passes taken over the model) over the upper surfaces only. Then Athonian Camoshade over the lot. This I put on too heavily and it looked badly in some recessed areas of the robes. Had I had more patience I would have taken the advice I received from a GW staff member...he had a beautiful WHFB banshee whose robes almost seem to have a cloth-like texture. He built it up with countless passes of drybrushing (in different directions if I remember correctly) and thin washes/shades. I did something similar with my enginseer's robes and they look far better than my psykers'. http://www.bolterandchainsword.com/gallery/image/148945-image/ Likewise the resurrection orb/palantir was adapted from how Duncan paints one in a GW tutorial video. How I did mine I'll explain in my army thread when I have time. WarriorFish
With dry brushing you want to remove almost all the paint, test it on your hand it should only leave a little colour on then you're ready to go :) Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/303867-regiments-of-the-bc-blood-and-glory/page/6/#findComment-3974888 Share on other sites
elmo
WarriorFish is correct and it is a good idea to use a paper towel to remove excess paint from the drybrush. Saying that, I use 3 levels of drybrushing, wet, normal and dry. This allows me to highlight with gradually lighter shades. our_baz
thanks Kierdale/Mehman/warriorfish , he was a bit of an experiment as I've not done black before. Really happy with how it has come out. Gonna use that scheme for the rest of my Psykers. Chefzilla. Don't be afraid to try the drybrushing, if you add to much, just paint over and go again. I never get right first time usually. I used it to highlight the Astropath and my Orgyn (http://www.bolterandchainsword.com/topic/291066-e-company-of-the-7th-levalloisian-life-guards-wip/?p=3925615) it can give very quick results. Kierdale
So Keirdale, you're not painting those highlights? That is all drybrushing? On the robes, yes indeed. All drybrushing.I always do a shade over the top at the end so it doesn't look so scratchy. Do multiple layers and it'll look even better. Lucio
Whilst not a Guardsman model, I've used drybrushing to build up contrasting colours on Chaos Spawn in my Quintos WIP thread (see my sig). The trick for me was using a larger brush with soft bristles so each pass left some paint behind. You cam always tidy thr edges up later either by edging in a highlight colour or dabbing the brush on to blend the colour border Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/303867-regiments-of-the-bc-blood-and-glory/page/6/#findComment-3975709 Share on other sites
Kierdale
The Survivor and the Contriver The psyker battle squads of Kierdale’s Shrineworld garrison are looked upon with great suspicion by the rest of the regiment. Line infantrymen will spit on the ground before them and make the symbol of the Aquila upon their chests and even company commanders will think twice before calling upon their ethereal and esoteric abilities, avoiding meeting their eyes at all times. The Primaris Psykers assigned to the 41st regiment of foot are treated a little better due to their perceived rank and the supposed hardiness of their training, though still there is a rift between the mundanes and those with the Sight. The above pict shows Primaris Psyker Eldrid wielding his Force staff from which can be seen hanging fetish beads and a pair of Janus skulls carved by the psyker himself from the vertebrae and skulls of his former gestaltkin. The case of Eldrid is a curious one, for during his time with the Scholastica Psykana he was judged to possess fine control though lacked raw power. Something was holding him back from opening his mind fully to the Warp. This reticence saw him assigned to a Psyker Battle Squad rather than fulfilling his potential as a Primaris. His training continued as part of a gestalt and, over the following years it was as if his personality was stripped from him. Perhaps a better analogy would be that his personality became merged, melded with the other eight members of his unit. Eventually the nine would no longer need to converse amongst themselves for their thoughts were shared, and often when addressed by Outsiders they would speak for each other, or all at once as one voice, much to the consternation of the listener. It is common for those who have forged brotherly ties in combat to suffer survivor’s guilt at the loss of those brothers. How they can we describe the horror of losing eight-ninths of one’s own self? For such occurred to PSB-124C in the St.Dunsany’s Day invasion on Vionym III. At first it appeared as if the lone survivor of PSB-124C would have to be put to death, so severe was his trauma, until his superiors discovered that Eldrid has survived by doing what he had been incapable of all these years: he had opened himself to the Warp, smiting those who had slain his gestaltkin. After undergoing surgeries to install cyberpsycho buffers into his cranium, Eldrid found himself reevaluated and reassigned as a Primaris Psyker. A shell of the man he once was, prone to talking to himself in distinctly different voices and indeed carrying out entire conversations with himself, the Primaris Psyker was deployed to Kierdale’s Shrineworld. He is known to keep his distance from others, both frightful of making connections with others and loathing to hear the common soldiery lamenting the loss of their own squadmates. The above pict shows Primaris Psyker Obolensky Samuil examining an artifact recovered after clashes with androidform Xenos wakened by Imperial surveys of the planet Taharka IV. Primaris Psyker Obolensky was later admonished for his actions by commissariat members attached to the 41st regiment of foot. The artifact however was lost and its current location is unknown. While his peers burned insects with lighter on the hive world of Stalinvast, the young Obolensky Samuil was directing them into the blades of extractor fans by the force of his will, his actions going unnoticed by his family, overworked in the hive foundries. His peers would take great delight in pushing firecrackers into swarfgrub hives, while he took great pride in manipulating them to build a hive in his own image. It was this last act which caused his friends, who had always found him different, to turn against him. They destroyed the hive-statue and, spitting upon him and calling him a witch, attempted to drive him from their hab block. The next day the leader of the gang was found dead by his parents, his ears, nose and mouth teaming with swarfgrubs. When the other children told tales of Obolensky Samuil’s actions the boy was hunted down and by pure chance or fate one cannot know but a Black Ship was scheduled to gather tithe from Stalinvast only a few days later. Inducted into the Scholastica Psykana his tutors took great interest in young Samuil’s ability to exert his will over others and they let his whet his talent firstly upon insects and as the years passed steadily larger animals, through small rodents and mammals until they eventually let him experiment upon other Scholastica students, pitting his dominating will against their ability to resist. This was a challenge Samuil relished, and forcefully learned discipline: when once he failed to subvert the will of another student he attempted to do to them as he had the gang leader in his youth. The quick actions of his fellow pupils saved his would-be victim and Samuil felt the lash of his tutors. A similar incident occurred when he succeeded in dominating one of his weaker-willed instructors, one who had seen Samuil as something of a protégé to champion. By the time he graduated the Scholastica Psykana, Primaris psyker Obolensky Samuil -openly at least- understood his place within the chain of command. When the Departmento Munitorum assigned him to Kierdale’s Shrineworld he smiled at the opportunity to direct masses of guardsmen. At the command of his superiors, of course...
