Mitsman
No updates at the moment as we had some family health issues and progress was very slow. I am working at the knight slowly. I have undercoated him black but I am undecided on the colours between Hawkshroud and a house Terryn with a twist. Also I have began work on 2 assault marines with jump packs and bp+ccw. One of them is going to be painted as squad leader with an iron halo. Just to make it worse, I am also working on 3 centurions with major conversion on the arms as the huge fists with the guns below them do not look wieldy enough to me. Some pics will follow in a couple of days. LokisSword
This is a great thread, I love the progression of painting that is evident in the army shots you posted! I've played since RT and stopped playing just before 3rd Ed, since I used to play filthy xenos (which I then sold) I don't really have much of a record of my old stuff. Keep up the great work and I hope you and your family are all well soon! Mitsman
Back with some more WIP. The 2 assault marines have been undercoated black and basecoated blue. http://i.imgur.com/4WF6d9P.jpg The right guy is the squad leader (not sergeant). And here is where I am at the moment with the centurions. The fists have been removed and the weapons are fitted directly at the elbow. http://i.imgur.com/ya1PQNM.jpg http://i.imgur.com/mLWQm6X.jpg The conversion is very easy. Just remove the fist from the arm as below. Then make a quarter circle on the weapon to fit the arm and you are done. http://i.imgur.com/WfHyUsk.jpg The knight is still waiting for me in all his undercoated glory... I need to buy a couple of paints I am missing and then to set up my airbrush. I am NOT gonna paint this girl (ohhhh she is a girl now? ok need to write down some fluff for her then) with metal over and over again with some little brushes... lol Mitsman Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/305134-mitsmans-ultramarines-blog-of-awesomeness-intercessors/page/2/#findComment-4030149 Share on other sites
Mitsman
Ok, so not a lot of progress as real life is a b*#ch . I have finished the basic colors on the 2 assault marines and also completed the black lining. Gold for 2nd company rims is complete. What is missing is the highlights of the blue armour and of course markings. Aaaaah and the bases are not done yet! So I guess about half way through with them. I would have posted pics but my camera's battery decided to die on me so pics will follow tomorrow. Once these 2 guys are complete I wanna set up the airbrush and do 2-3 vehicles at once. Do all the blue, black lining and highlights together and then progress on each vehicle separately. I am VERY excited about the new Ultra stuff from forgeworld and the new SM codex coming in that I need to finish things quickly to have more units available for the new books. Hope I get a break to work on things quicker. Kriegsmacht
Assault marines look good. I like the progress on the Knight can't wait to see it painted. :) Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/305134-mitsmans-ultramarines-blog-of-awesomeness-intercessors/page/2/#findComment-4051597 Share on other sites
Mitsman
More wip for the assault marines. http://i.imgur.com/OaYGU44.jpg http://i.imgur.com/AP8XTaq.jpg http://i.imgur.com/zvGItij.jpg I have done the first blue highlight layer and some touch ups. Just ignore the designs on the chainswords, they are bad. I will redo them after the blue is finished. Kriegsmacht I can't wait to start work on the knight too. I just need to restock a couple of metallic paints and off we go... Although, I still am not 100% sure what scheme to paint him with. Mitsman
New WIP! Behold the 1st company Land Raider Crusader, blinged up and ready(?) for paint. http://i.imgur.com/lcCU0YN.jpg http://i.imgur.com/EPqUfTj.jpg http://i.imgur.com/FuTOAcw.jpg http://i.imgur.com/PcQz7Vv.jpg http://i.imgur.com/V0aTQMK.jpg Some of the highlights are: New antenna at the back since the plastic one would surely break. I used some hard wire for that. Brass etched markings from forgeworld City fight plastic building embelishments that looked nice, basically the eagles and the murals on the top. Plastic strips all around for that nice border effect at the sides. No large Ultra marks and "U"s as I want to try larger freehands on this vehicle ALSO coming up we have: http://i.imgur.com/aXSrTA9.jpg http://i.imgur.com/v3z5Qwb.jpg A nice Deathstorm drop pod that doubles up as a Dreadnought drop pod. Praise the Omnisiah for HIS magnets! A question now to all of you. Has anyone tried the new metallic airbrush paints from Forgeworld? I have run out of most metallic paints and I run practically on the last scraps at the bottom of the pots. If I want to my do my vehicles and especially that nice knight I need to get something. Since a forgeworld order (with free shipment ) is being prepared, would you suggest these paints? Should I stick with the normal GW paints? Unfortunately most Vallejo outlets have closed around here in the last couple of years and so I have no real alternatives. Mitsman
Today I sidetracked to a devastor with a lascannon. I really need to complete that devastator squad someday! http://i.imgur.com/dDzRFQU.jpg The marine has got the basic colors layed out and some black wash done just minutes ago. More work will be done tomorrow as soon as the shade has time to dry out. Once this guy is complete, i will have 3 guys with lascannons. Need to paint fastah! Mitsman
Right, I saw the new devastator kit and decided to buy 2 of them when released!!! This meant that I had to do a few rearrangements around the 2nd company. The lascannon dude is going in the second tactical squad with a plasmagun and a combi plasma sergeant. The 10th squad will be devastators with lascannons and the 9th squad will be devastators with plasma cannons. More heavies will be spread around the tactical squads and the rest of the heavies will go in the ninth company as reserves. So the devastator that got promoted to tactical: http://i.imgur.com/S4p2fdG.jpg http://i.imgur.com/V3RMPga.jpg http://i.imgur.com/0E33Nb7.jpg http://i.imgur.com/uRO9U7l.jpg Since the 2nd squad is complete, more pics will follow together with drop pod and rhino, although the vehicles might need some touch up to allocate them to the 2nd. What can I say I love my Ultra fluff...! Mitsman
More ASS WIP! hmmm it doesn't sound so exciting... Let me rephrase, more Assault Marines WIP, any better? http://i.imgur.com/CcRoE1F.jpg http://i.imgur.com/GmbFQYP.jpg This is the new squad leader as I had forgotten that this guy carried a brass etch on his jumppack. The previous squad leader will be painted over to be a standard member. http://i.imgur.com/gETqrYV.jpg http://i.imgur.com/DI5GD7E.jpg When these guys are finished I will have painted: One 7 man assault squad with jps, 2 plasma pistols and vet.serg. with power fist One 6 man assault squad with jps, 2 flamers and vet.serg. with power fist I have... stumbled upon the english new codex leaks and I cannot wait to field a demi-company in my battles. Although my 7th edition list looked like this (1748pts/1750pts): HQ 1 Tigurius 5 Command squad, 4 melta gun 1 Drop pod ELITE 1 Ironclad Dreadnought, meltagun, heavy flamer 1 Drop pod, deathwind launcher TROOPS 10 Tactical squad, plasmagun, combi-plasma 1 Drop pod 10 Tactical squad, plasmagun, combi-plasma 1 Rhino FAST ATTACK 5 Assault squad, 2 flamer, melta bomb 1 Drop pod deathwind launcher 5 Assault squad, 2 flamer, melta bomb 1 Storm Talon, skyhammer launcher HEAVY SUPPORT 1 Storm Raven (Eagle), multi-melta + assault cannon, 4 missiles 5 Devastator squad, 3 lascannon 7 Devastator squad, 3 plasma cannon which is a demi company more or less, it will feel different with the extra bonuses and the rest of the formations allowed. So, who is changing their list drastically with the new codex? Who is improving/tweaking on his list instead of changing? Mitsman
Today I found the time to continue the assault marines a bit. Some more highlights to the blue added to both models. Also done some more work on their bases. On other news, the metallics I was missing for the knight have arrived, rejoice! But... summer is finaly here in Athens which means colours dry up really quick and I am not experienced enough to use the airbrush on such heat (35+ oC). Maybe a trial before I go on the knight, I do not want to ruin such a nice model. Mitsman
And here we are. The 5th and 6th assault marines are done. Behold! member http://i.imgur.com/Kv7Ze3r.jpg http://i.imgur.com/5adoUBm.jpg http://i.imgur.com/odAdriL.jpg and the new squad leader (old one's markings are changed) http://i.imgur.com/pzXuv9j.jpg http://i.imgur.com/NM2hBnt.jpg http://i.imgur.com/TMe7809.jpg The squad as it stands now http://i.imgur.com/5tuUmFS.jpg http://i.imgur.com/Z0jvddW.jpg These 6 members (7th squad) together with my old 7 members of the 8th squad will fill in the assault squad prerequisites for my company formation. And now with more wip coming in: The beautifull chaplain with jump pack (in full metal glory) http://i.imgur.com/331xk7I.jpg and a devastator sergeant made from the old 2nd edition metal devastator and a resin backpack from the master of relics, holding a bolter with both hands. http://i.imgur.com/q0BmQSL.jpg Mitsman Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/305134-mitsmans-ultramarines-blog-of-awesomeness-intercessors/page/2/#findComment-4104459 Share on other sites
Mitsman
Hi guys, I am back. It's been quite a while since I did some work as I was busy with family and other things. I have taken it slowly as I find it hard to immerse myself directly into painting again, so first few days I started with some assembling of a few things and then off to painting some bases. I also painted a couple of servo skulls that I wanted to use on the venerable dreadnought but I did not go for it as they will probably get damaged from play, so I based them alone on a 25mm base to use as wargear for characters and such. The idea now that I am back, I hope for long, is to finish the devastator sergeant I started and do a veteran sergeant with combi-flamer and power fist for one of my tactical squads, plus 2 heavy weapon troops with grav-cannons to upgun my tactical squads for the new era. After that who knows... http://i.imgur.com/3JzCIyM.jpg http://i.imgur.com/Vpxx0WB.jpg Hope you like them. Mitsman EDIT: The red helmet is supposed to be a heretic one with a bronze chaos star painted on the side but it was poorly executed. More work for later I guess. Soric
You've got some really nice freehand skills for your unit markings and the kitbashes themselves are simple but effective. I think my favourites are your bikers and lascannon devastator. The blue you've got for your ultras looks a little pastilly (either from the camera or lighting I'm not sure) but I think it looks great either way. Really inspiring stuff here. Mitsman
Thanks for the kind words Soric but the toughest critic is always yourself as they say. I am very much trying to improve the freehands especialy the smaller ones. I blame the paintbrush (lol, not me...) as the bristles are not very thin and pointy enough. At the moment I am using Winsor & Newton "Cotman" series and they are not bad for painting but I need something better for the freehands. About the pastel blue... Oh boy, it is not so bad in reality but some of it is evident. I want to move to a bit more dark combination of blues to much the new colors of GW but I do not want to have mixed blues in the same squads so I always come back to the old recipy that is based around Ultramarines Blue with lighter highlights. Mitsman
Greetings fellow B&Cers. Progress has been made! (but not much...) http://i.imgur.com/mgiUdsh.jpg This is the sergeant of the devastator squad. I have laid down the basic colors and did some shading on the reds and purity seals. I got carried away with the lenses on the back pack and completed them! I have also laid down some of the basic colours of the tactical sergeant with the combi-flamer but have no pics yet. Not much of a progress but still it's something after that big break. See yah around! Mitsman
Hi again, Just a bit more work done on the devastator sergeant. Here he is: http://i.imgur.com/CvZoFpP.jpg The gold is more or less done, all colours have been washed and shaded and... then I sidetracked to this http://i.imgur.com/RGlIs11.jpg I have been doing trees in a lot of ways in the past. After having made lots of woods I kinda regretted it since the major pain in the bottom was space for the miniatures. Breakage after breakage I decided to split the trees from the woods for easier storage and removal during battle. The way I am doing them now is that I glue a plastic disk on a metal spacer/washer and then glue the tree on that. After everything has time to dry I add grass to match my table. It is not a lot of work and nothing impressive but trees are bottom heavy to avoid dropping them in the heat of the battle and tree lines can change battle after batlle! Mitsman
Good mornng everyone! The devastator sergeant is almost complete. He just needs a little bit of edge highlights and tidying up of the base. http://i.imgur.com/rNpbkoc.jpg http://i.imgur.com/31xsiF7.jpg http://i.imgur.com/THQ6e7c.jpg I did some further work on the tactical sergeant with the combi-plasma, basicaly some long waited highlights. http://i.imgur.com/SxrWxpw.jpg http://i.imgur.com/PMzHWrU.jpg http://i.imgur.com/3xqgsVs.jpg He too needs some last edge highlights and he is done. Finaly I progressed with another tactical sergeant to round off my lists. He has a power fist and a combi flamer. I opted for a darker red on his helmet to start transitioning to subtler highlights and grittier colours. I hope you like him. http://i.imgur.com/gEhypda.jpg http://i.imgur.com/oUVrc8K.jpg http://i.imgur.com/rGeWcdd.jpg I will use one of the completed bases I posted earlier in this thread so he only needs some edge highlights and some free hand on the right shoulderpad. Knight of the Raven
These are all very fine models, but my favorite is the assault marine with the champion pauldrons. Love the armor, the aforementioned shoulder pads and the mkVIII breastplate. And that army shot is so old school with the green mat and the trees.
