Mitsman
Wow!!! It's been almost a year. Life was very busy and I was on and off painting when I had the time. Over the next days I will post all the stuff I have finished and also show all my latest WIP. I will start with my FW Ironclad Dreadnought from a long time ago. Complete with both double CCWs and the hurricane bolter options. Everything is magnetised of course. I decided he stayed too long in my to do list and it was high time I painted him. It was also time to use that sweet FW transfer sheet that I have been hoarding since the beginning of 2018. I tried for a ruined city base with something that to my eyes resembles marble... You know first try and all that! Bjorn Firewalker
Excellent work on the Ironclad Dreadnought. Pearson73
Cracking work on the Ironclad, it's a really lovely kit. Personally, I think it might look better with a bit more white somewhere, to break up the blue. Mitsman
Hey Pearson73, Yeah I thought so my self as well but I really could not find the correct spot to do the white. I suppose I can do it whenever I get the inspiration on top of the painted plates, in two thin coats :) Also, I have more pics for you: First two sets of Dread Autocannons. These are from the anti-air platform of the Aegis defence line. They fit perfectly on the dreadnoughts as the FW autocannons do no look so nice and have fewer details. Second is the squad of inceptors from the new starter set. I think the painting is closer to the old Legion painting of 30k and I love it!!! The plastic stems have been removed as they are crap. They did not even last the basic coats of paint and started to break on me. I replaced them with hard steel rod 2mm and kept the base of the steps partly because they were already glued and partly to keep more plastic for the rod to hold on to. They kinda look like rocks so I do not think they are bad. These three now increase the number of my primaris marines to four. Yeah only them and the lieutenant but I have started work on my first 5 intercessors. We will see... Mitsman
Thanks Bjorn. My target is to paint 3 more from the normal kit equipped again with bolters. The idea is to deep strike them close to an objective and drive away the troops of the other side, or reinforce a flank that needs them. Pearson73
Solid job on those Inceptors, I've heard terrible things regarding how flimsy those stands are. With regards to white panels on the Dread, it's not an easy one to work out; perhaps the shoulder/top part of the arms, or maybe the raised panels on the front of the torso? Regardless, it's a very good paint job as is. Mitsman
Hey, some more pics as promised. My first ever apothecary. Up until the last couple of editions my goto characters have always been Captains or Librarians and only ever painted them over other specialists. It is only the last two years that I painted a chaplain, a techmarine and this apothecary. These bikes come to fill the minimal squad I had with 2 plasma and combi-plasma. Now they are at the nice round number of 5 and able to do some damage with bolters as well. On my WIP desk at the moment: 1 Contemptor with lots of magnetised arms 1 Leviathan with lots and lots of magnetised arms 6 shooty Terminators 1 bike 1 Ultramarine Primaris Lieutenant 1 metal Ultramarines ancient (honour guard of Calgar) and more ... in the unfinished shelf :( I have lots of work to do, don't I? Doghouse
Nice job on the bike fairings, the added script is a nice touch. The apothecary is good too, I like the positioning on him. Pearson73
Continuing the good work with the bikes and apothecary, I particularly like the freehand on the bikes. sockwithaticket
It's tricky to put dynamism into a static pose, but you've really managed it with that Apothecary. His bracing is clear and oddly kinetic. Mitsman
@ sockwithaticket : That was the idea behind this pose man! Since at least one person besides me sees this I call it a good job!!! Today I will start showing some more WIP since I cannot remember any other finished work I have that is not posted. So I begin with the terminator squad. 6 members as I want to have them without a heavy if I need to use them in 30k games. I know I could use a h.flamer but at the moment I do not fancy it so much. Maybe the next batch will also have one, we'll see. There are the basic colours so nothing spectacular here. Do you like the gold trim around the hip armour? The guy on the right of the sergeant is a termie from the latest space hulk game with minor marking changes to ultramarines. I have used the FW termie shoulder pads as they are brilliant! Bjorn Firewalker
Good job on the Terminators. As for their armor... I think the bars on the Terminators' legs are hydraulic pistons, to support the armor's weight; these bars should be silver-colored, like the stainless steel used to manufacture hydraulic pistons; the trimming should match or compliment the silver colors, accordingly. Mitsman
Hmmmmm, you are right of course. I was really aiming for something like this: I will probably remove the trim on the hip armour and try to add gold elsewhere. Bjorn Firewalker
I think my problem with the trimming isn't a matter of color, but more of presence. For decorative elements like that, you should either go "all in" (put gold trimming around each individual plate on a suit), or "don't bother"- there is no middle ground for how much trimming you should put on the Terminator's armor. OakRiver
I think the gold detail looks great, and it compliments their status as 1st Company Veterans. The fluff describes those ribs as adamantium reinforcements (http://wh40k.lexicanum.com/wiki/Terminator_Armour#Design), but there is no reason they can't be gold plated - perhaps in recognition of the 1st Company's heroic sacrifices in the defense of Macragge against the Tyranid invasion. Mitsman
More work in progress! I have finished modelling my very first primaris intercessor squad. They are led by a veteran sergeant with power sword (the limited edition one). I only did a minor conversion by adding a 30k banner on his backpack. A mix between 30k an 40k I think and I like it! In other news I decided that the golds trim on the hip armour of the terminators will be removed and I have proceeded to repaint them blue. Added some more basic colours as well. Mitsman
+++ Progress report +++ I) All 6 terminators are coated with basic colours and all shading with nuln oil is complete. II) All 5 primaris intercessors are base coated with chaos black spray ready for painting. Also base coated blue. III) Contemptor dreadnought as well as all of its magnetised arms is base coated with chaos black spray ready for painting. IV) Minor progress with more basic colours on the ancient standard bearer. V) Lieutenant Cassius is built, under coated black and base coated blue. Thought for the day: My desk is full of incomplete minis and I try to sound smart on B&C! Mitsman EDIT 1: More progress on the 5 primaris intercessors and Cassius. EDIT 2: I am on fire today (or nuts). I just finished all the golds on the primaris intercessors and Cassius. If I find time tomorrow I will post progress pics. Mitsman
+++ Progress report Beta +++ I) I got new brushes, same as the old ones but new! I use Winsor and Newton Cotman series numbers 0 and 000 and occasionally numbers 1 and 2. Boy everything is suddenly more enjoyable and easy. No more mistakes and going but to correct them. Guys change your brushes frequently. It pleases the Emperor! II) All six terminators have had gold and white highlights completed. Remaining highlights to black, blue and metals. I am halfway there. Maybe another 2 days of work. II) some little progress on the primaris intercessors. When I paint the termies and I am left with some colours that much the primaris I use it on them also before it dries out. I breaks the monotony a bit. III) I did not post pics yet as I think a few more highlights will make a difference. Soon. Mitsman
*** Progress report Gamma +++ WIP pictorials of terminator squad "Aliakmon". I removed the gold trim around the hip armour and now they look better, the gold looks more balanced against the blue. You like? Getting there slowly...
