As you might be aware the Liber Astartes sub forum has a set of challenges for the rest of the board, this month it challenges the might of the Mechanicum, the Dark Mechanicum and the Knight Houses.

First, how could I not pledge to this?

While planning a Mechanicum army and its background, I began thinking about choices for a Forge World.

Mars is the 'classical' choice, of course.

In Codex: Skitarii, a few other Forge Worlds are shown along with their troops' colour schemes. All of them are tempting, but the colour palette I plan to use is actually closest to Mars. So, it looks like it is the winner afterall! (unless the fluff takes me elsewhere)

But where on Mars? Not from any of the main Temple Forges... Should I throw a dart at a map of Mars?

Why not? There is plenty of useful information about today's Mars and it's planetary surface, so let's get crazy.

First, find the latitude and longitude of a real world city (maybe one where you live - it's your army afterall).

Second, find the same latitude and longitude on Mars.

Third, plant a flag and scoop a shovel full of red soil... time to found a Forge Temple!

Hmm, is it close to any in-game locations on Mars? Okay, my choices are: Mondus Gamma Forge Temple, Mechavitae Forge Temple, The Rust Wastes, and Cthonia. Other than Mondus Gamma Forge, I haven't found much established background for these areas, so any one of them is fair game. Or, perhaps, my army will be located in a small base nearby.

Now if only my Codex: Skitarii Ruststalker Edition would arrive so I can pick my megaclades' number - something between 001 to 900.

If you have problems or find that there's something that you need help with, contacting myself, Aquilanus, Conn Eeremon or LySiMachus is not a bother in the slightest. We'll gladly help you as best we can. It doesn't matter if it is grammatical problems or conceptual issues, we'll help. It's what we're here for. :)

And it is important that this Challenge be fun for everyone involved. Do what you want or can, and worry not about the standards of others (whether that's length or language barriers). Just have fun.

As i've not delved into this sub-forum before what are the full criteria required for completion? Is it creating background in a thread and is it acceptable to do so with material already created prior to the challenge being set? Is completed painted miniatures essential and if so will Epic scale Titans count for Titan Legions?

It's more of a fluff/backstory project than of modeling - it might be good to consolidate your background from your WIP thread into a dedicated thread for this challenge.   I kind of went overboard with my entry, but you can use it as just one example.

The details for entering the Challenge and providing a valid submission can be found in this thread. Basically, you make the relevant vow in that thread, create a thread either in the Liber or the AdMech subforums and provide the background needed to fulfil the vow. Pictures are encouraged but not strictly necessary for this particular challenge.

Edit - Aaand I was ninja'd by Commodus. Of course I was.

Both Commodus and Tenebris have completed the challenge already. I suggest seeking out their threads, as they are well worth the read.

I was going to make a clever comment about cycling your blood before taking on your vow... but I forgot what the AdMech blood analogue is called, so that would've sounded rubbish. :lol:

I found what I was looking for: Sanguinous Medium. It's a part of Autosanguination (something that was described waaaay back in an article about Explorators in the old Exterminatus magazine). Never heard of a floodstream before before, though, in regards to the circulatory system. Maybe as an information thing, but that's it.

Ah i only occasionally got Exterminatus.

The Floodstream is referenced in several novels where Titan Princeps, Knight Pilots and Techpriests have various stims and other chemicals pumped into their body to enhance and manage their combat capabilities or capacity to handle large volumes of data.

Well after a little PM work (many thanks to rashbold, may he receive a blessing of the omnissiah), i have found my new Forge Temple "Terra Cimmeria" conveniently located on the lower southern region of Mars which is rather uninhabited till now!...
