WilhelmMiniatures' WIP projects-04.03.16, Blight Terminators

Recommended Posts

Thank you all for all the kind words!

All your stuff is awesome! I might steal that dirty white look when I do Dark Mech.

Go right ahead! If you have any questions about painting them, feel free to ask. I might do a dirty white tutorial in the future, since several people comment on it, and it's a lot of fun to paint.

That reaper is one of the coolest things I've ever seen on B&C...

There are a lot of great models on B&C, so thank you a lot for that!

Everything in this thread oozes style. Daemonic Fulgrim is amazing, and those Guardsmens capture the eclectic nature of 40k exceedingly well. Not sold on the Stormcasts-turned-Astartes as much, they seem a little half-baked compared to the rest of the gloriousness presented here...

Thank you! Its good with some honest critique, so I get more insight in what people like best, and what to do more/less in the future.

The last couple of posts have been focusing on the models I painted last year. So its about time to show something I'm working on at the moment. This is a WIP topic after all. I got inspired to work on the Blightking set when I saw some great conversions and painted models of the kit on Between the Bolter and Me and the Convertorum blogs. I did a quick kit-bash using the Blightkings, SM Terminators, and the new Cataphractii Terminators, and came up with this:

You should! I'd love some hints from the master happy.png

A while ago, I converted a Deamonette with lobster-claw shoes (or actually feet). I just got around to pain it. I painted her a lot quicker than I had anticipated. Probably sine she's just flesh and metal. The biggest challenge I had on this model, was sticking her on the base. But after a while I managed to pin the tip of her toe/claw/thing. Since the only thing holding her into place is the tip of her feet, I gave her a flat and boring base, so it wouldn't take too much attention away from the feet.

It was a quite enjoyable project, and I'm really happy with the resolute. So there will probably be a couple more Daemonette conversions in the future. you can check out more pictures here.

In the last couple of days, I've been working on some conversions for my Mutant/Nurgle warband. Some of them still have a lot of work left, and they all need to be cleaned up and green-stuffed. But I think they're all starting to look interesting. They are still WIP, so if there are any changes you think I should do, please let me know.

The Prophet and his retinue. All the models are based on Plaguebearers, with additional bits from several kits. I'm most pleased with the Tyranid Hormagaunt legs, given to the models on the sides.

I'm going to use this pair of models for the first month of Ready your Retinue 2016, on the Inq28 Ammobunker forum. So I'll try to get them painted up during the weekend. The finished models will share a base, and stand a bit closer together.

So far this model has only gone through a simple head-swap. I'm kind of getting a Khorne feel from this one, so I might fill all the wounds and rust holes on the armour, and paint him up like a Khorne mutant. Whatever I decide to do with him, he's getting a lot of cables from a box on his back to his helmet, to make him more 40k looking.

This running mutant has Gaunt legs, Hormagaut arm and a  severed head from the Maggoth Lord kit.

Lastly I have a model I made sometime last year, but it fits the theme, so its going to be a part of the warband. The Spawn has a Tyranid Spore Mine as a head.

As always your conversions are sinister and dowright terrifying. Keep doing what you're doing biggrin.png

Thanks, I will!

Amazing work, they look suitably horrifying!

Cheers man, glad you like them.

I have been doing some painting since last time. But not on anything I've shown here. A couple of months ago, I made some mutant brutes based on Bloodletters with Goblin heads from GW's Hobbit range. After painting the Daemonette, I thought her skin-tone would work on these models as well, so I tried it out. The Brutes will be a part of my Slaanesh Warband as the Daemonette's slaves/bodyguards. I have a couple of more photos here.

Eeeeeew, they're gross! Creeps me out immensely, so job's a good'un!

Cheers! I'm glad that I managed to make them creepy.

how did you do the hand staff?

also, out of likes

The staff and hand are, like the main parts of the mutant, from the Bloodletter kit. I cut the nails to make the hans look mare human, and less like a Daemon claw. I think this makes it look creepier. Superglue was user to attach the hand to the top of the staff. I smeared superglue around the top of the staff and sealed it with superglue activator. This is what looks like skin, hanging from the hand around the staff.

The staff was painted bronze, drybrushed gold and silver, then washed with sepia. The hand was painted red, with purple shading.

Yep, creepy. thumbsup.gif

I also really those Mechanicus/Empire Guardsmen. Are we going to see any more of those?

Thank you!

Yes, there will be more. At the moment I'm working on Daemons and mutants. But if I'm ever going to have a game with my Mechanicus army, I need at least a ten man squad.

I finished my entry for Ready your Retinue January 2016. The model is based on a Plaguebearer with Tyranid Hormagaunt legs and the twin heads from the Dark Eldar Wracks kit. His mutated human pet, is based on a Ghoul with a slave mask from the Empire Flagellants. I used different glazes to give them two different skin tone. Warm purple and sepia colours on the Plaguebearer, and colder blue-purple colours on the pet mutant.

This duo will be a part of my Mutant/Daemon warband. When I made them, I thought they would be followers of Nurgle. But now that I'm finished with the painting, I think they look quite Slaaneshi as well. But since there are an infinite number of Daemons in the Warp, I think a lot of them overlap whichever God/force they are supposed to follow.

Suitably disgusting and creepy. Just how daemons should be. thumbsup.gif

Cheers man!

It's time for another unit from my Armies on Parade 2015 entry. This time i want to share my Cyberhounds and their Handler. Originally These models where made for my daemons, as Flesh Hounds. If I ever play a game using Daemons, I'll probably use them as such. But when I was building my second batch of hounds (the four painted beige), I put them beside one of my Mechanicus models and they looked great together. I then decided to use the hounds as some kind of dog servitor, with servo-skulls as heads.

The Houds are based on GW Fantasy Chaos Warhounds and Tomb Kings horse skulls. I only had one Horse skull in my bitz box, so I made a quick instant-mould to cast the rest in green stuff. Green-stuff dries softer than plastic, so I was able to cut off the lower jaw, and glue it back into place on some of the hounds, to make a couple with open mouths. If I make more hounds, I'll add some cables and other mechanical details to make them more 40k/mechanicum looking.

The Handler is based on the Corpse Cart driver, with a FW servo skull and servo arms.

As always, you can check out more pictures on my blog!

When using them as chaos hounds, I decided to make a daemon leader for the squad instead of the Mechanicum Handler. I had a FW hound in my great box of bitz, and made it into a classic Cerberus conversion. The model is still WIP, so I'll add some more 40k details and cut the cables.

Is one of your armies at display in GW Oslo? Or was perhaps, I was there last in November.

One day I'd love having the honor of playing against you smile.png

Yes, my Mechannicum army was on display at GW Oslo for several months. A couple of the models are still there, but I've started to bring them back home to photograph them.

We should defiantly have a game some time!

I have yet another update from my Armies on Parade 2015 entry! This time I want to share the leader of the army; Lord Inquisitor Hannibal Rex. I originally made the Inquisitor on walking throne nearly two years ago. I really liked the model, and decided to create another version of the same character, to be used in smaller games, if I ever use the army in a game. I also gave the Inquisitor a small retinue of mechanical bodyguards and an advisor.

As usual I didn't share all the photos here, so if you want to se the models from other angles, check them out on my blog.

200% Blanche!

Cheers!

I've started some new conversions for my Daemons:

When the plastic Bloodthirster came out, I didn't really like it. I thought the weapons was too big, the wings had some weird looking chaos symbol scars on them, and they had too many oversized horns. I did however buy one, to give myself a conversion challenge. The Khorne: Daemonkin Codex had just come out, and I needed a Bloodthirster for my army, and started to convert it. I failed, and the resolute became far from a Bloodthirster. I ended up creating "The Beast", one of the models I entered in The Fang 2015. Even though I didn't make a Bloodthirster, the Beast turned out quite good.

I didn't think much more of it, until Skarbrand (the named Bloodthirster) came out, and I wanted to try again. This time I managed to convert the model into a Bloodthirster that I like. I actually made two!

Since I don't like the wings, weapons or heads, the only thing I needed to create another BT out of the spare parts was a torso.

I'm quite pleased with how they look so far, and think I managed to make two quite original Bloodthirsters without turning them into something else entirely (like the Beast). What I like most about them, are their heads. I used the heads from FW Hounds of Xaphan, and turned them upside down. The Bloodthisters are blind. The idea is that the wholes that kind of look like eyes are nostrils or ears. I hope they will look less like eyes when painted.

As mentioned, I'm not a fan of the original wings. I gave them creepy fairy wings instead, taken from Nurgle Plague Drones.

The hound/bull head of your bloodthirsters are much better looking than the original flat faced ones using by GW. The wings scream more nurgle to me than khorne, though, that would be the only thing I personally am not too fond of.

However, they still look amazing!

Thanks man!

I never liked the idea of chaos being decided in four directions. Daemon armies done by GW looks a bit off to me. They have too much contrast. I like the idea of undivided Daemons. My Bloodthirsters aren't supposed to be pure Khorne daemons, but undivided Greater Daemons. But they are of course most influenced my Khorne.

I wrote some fluff for a bloodthirster enslaved by nurgle one time, so you might think about some sort of mixed heritage control for these guys, as it could be interesting.

They look great.

Sound cool! A story like that gives you more freedom to convert your daemons in any way you like, which is great!

I've had this plaguebearer laying untouched on my desk for several months. The only thing left to do, was some touch-ups on the skin and a base, which I finally got around to do. I wasn't too happy with the skin at first. But after applying sepia and purple glazes on different parts of the body, it started looking more alive (or dead). I have several other half finished models laying around, and hope I get around to finish more of them in between larger projects. It feels good to finish a model that has been annoyingly taking up space on my desk for a long time.
