And there I was trying to make my own...! ^^ good idea LutherMax, I might see if i can find some for cheap.

I thought about using some of the smaller ork buzzsaws on infantry, but never really thought about using them on dreads!

@ RedemptionNL - where does one get this bad boys from, they look pretty cool actually!

The dremel bits? Pretty much any decent hardware store.

Or if you're not in a hurry, order some from China. Cheap and free shipping, but it'll take a few weeks to arrive:

Just be careful though, they'll be sharp. I'm not sure if the blood on Scar's WE Contemptor is painted on or his own.

Blood for the Blood god and all that! Never know with these chaos folk...

Thanks though, I'll look out for some.

I like the frag cannon conversion a lot. Kudos!

Yeah that is pretty nifty!

Thanks guys! I was actually inspired by a similar conversion I saw on here, I just took my own approach on things. Also, working with plastic instead of the FW resin was great!

I want to add a buzzsaw arm like with my other dread, though am struggling to find an appropriate part for it at the mo.

Hoping to get pics of Tac squad 1 up soon...

How about these for a buzz saw?

I personally don't like the Contemptor pattern, but full credit for a great conversion to make it into a Fragioso.

How did you make your "dinky diagram"? I think that's a really cool was to track your progress and wouldn't mind appropriating that for my own WIP thread.

@ Cronhour - they look so cool, but I can't find it in me to pay £38 quid for a bit and a model that (although awesome) wouldn't see much use. Cool piece though. I don't think you can get it on bitz sites either.

It is abit egg like! I just put the diagram together by getting silhouette/artwork of the models I needed off the interwebz and compiled them in a Word document. Then i saturated them which allows me to set them whatever colour i like. The only downside is I used some images with high contrast, notably the drop pod, so you can still see some (World Eater...) details on it. Works fine for a small thumbnail though.

And yeah, it's anice visual way to track progress. I always have to visualise things and this means i don't have to leave my army out!

I can make one for you if you want and/or give you a more in depth guide. Drop me a PM.

Try a bits site!

I've been looking, but I don't think they're available as bitz... Ah well.

Anyway, As you would have seen from I have completed Tactical squad 1, so here's the first 5 men of Tactical Squad Sandriel:

(Centre guy is reloading!)

Lots of fun to make these guys. Basically a massive kitbash with all my old tactical bitz. I actually love making these standard troops for some reason and i have some ideas for some more tac marines (and badass sergeants!).

Don't know why i glued the missile launcher on as I don't really like the look of the look and don't think I'll actually be using it in game... I'll probably address that issue with clippers and the like...

Edit: better picture

Looking good! I like kit-bashed tacticals like this as it gives them more of that quasi-veteran feel that the codex says have (i.e. The most experienced/proven marines who are not first company, SG, or officers/noncoms.

Thanks! I like to give troops character because, at the end of the day, this is what your army is going to be based on! And with the 'quasi-veteran' style, the Flesh Tearers are pretty elite (in my biased eyes...) and game wise I'll running these fellas as Sternguard squads in the Archangels Formations etc. so it works well!

And for part two:

The sergeant was awaiting magnets in this picture, and the flamer guy can be swapped to have all manner of different weapons, including:

Not quite finished, but you get the idea! It's the terminator Heavy Flamer mixed with the B@C He.Bolter handles.

Also, Veteran Sergeant Sandriel himself, magnetised: (yes, that's a DIRTY moldline on the combi-flamer...)

I'm quite liking the LC combi-flamer look actually... Do I feel a list rewrite coming on?!

I absolutly love this!

I've got a spare contemptor and a spare frag cannon, I'm definitly going to use this for my upcoming 30k BA army. :D

Your models and conversions are ace. I've used killa kan arms for good buzz saw parts. I don't have any pictures right now, but it was pretty easy to de-orkify it by shaving the lines to be less jagged on the saw mounts. And they're cheap from bits sellers

Thanks! i've been looking at a few and will probably get some, but not before Christmas presents...

Don't know if you've seen, but Kromlech have just released some wonderful chainswords that fit flesh Tearers

I haven't yet, i'll check them out.

And not really any progress because I've been painting Batman this week... Hope to get something done over the rest of the weekend though!

Cheers!

I probably won't start painting until I've finished building, which I won't be able to do now until after Christmas...

But it's a fun project to dip in and out of and support here makes it so much easier to get back into it!

And those Kromlech chainswords... Oh boy!

  • 4 weeks later...

God those Calth LC are the bomb. So awesome. Dudes look bad ass!

They are VERY nice! And because they're seperate from any fists I've converted a right handed Lightning Claw for some dual wielding! (I'll see if I can snap a shot).

Over Christmas I managed to get a bit of modelling done, so started on tactical squad 2. Guy on the right is throwing a grenade. And i've just realised he doesn't have a backpack :o ...

And I started tinkering around with a weapon for the next Marine who'll be a long range specialist or something, an early Vengeance pattern Boltgun:

24202509386_fda7c955f9_z.jpg

Parts include: BA boltgun, B@C boltgun magazine, plasma gun stock, random scope from somewhere, bike banner pole, bit of sprue.

And having build a few FT stuff I decided I wanted a change of tone and did something radical (literally, he's a radical Inquisitor!):

23600373414_3d6d17acf8_z.jpg

He's going to be running around helping out with reserves (servo skull & Psychic Communion) and generally shooting :cuss with his S7 AP4 Heavy 4 cannon of doom. Because why not?

I've also had a massive reorg of all my minis (not LotR, else i would have died!) and got slightly depressed at how few models I had built/painted... Suffice to say I'm nearing a battle company of space marines and a small Tau strike force, and I've completed 2 minis... Having said that I'm near to finishing 30 Assault Marines and 7 Termis, it's just the willpower to keep going that's elluding me!

Which brings me nicely onto my next point: New Year's resolutions for this army!

1) build all my Flesh Tearer models

2) paint all of Strike Force Razorwind

3) build a Mechanicus allied detachment

2&3 are probably less realistic knowing me!

Anyway hope you all had a good christmas and you have a productive New Year!

  • 1 month later...

And some more poor quality photos of some WiPs!

Tac squad 2 is half way there (I know, how has it taken so long!) so hopefully I'll be able to round it out to ten guys in the next few weeks.

I'm not too sure about the crest or the plume on the bald guy. I think it looks quite cool, but a bit cartoony too, a look that I sorta want to try and avoid. Thoughts?

I don't see much time for any games in the near future unfortunately, but hopefully I can crack on with some painting...
