Bloody hell, spikey chaos lordy person....nice.

Digging the alt colours, but as far as names? Have you thought of widowmakers? You have a spider as a logo so......

....boom!

Ok so us beat me to a name hahaha nice choice!...

Don't suppose we'll be seeing a venom style conversion for oblits or chosen at some point?

I knew I should have backed it. Are they a match for the pads?

Supposedly... we'll find out! I'll sure be pissed if they aren't, haha! Shouldn't be long before I get them.

I'd love to try for those conversions on the oblits at some point. Right now the ones I've been working on are kinda Nurgle-y, but what was sculpted to be painted green and disgusting could be painted black just as easily.

  • 2 weeks later...

The decals should be shipping out soon! Can't wait to get my hands on 'em.

In the mean time, I've rethought/reworked my Skullcrushers-as-bikers for my Khorne Daemonkin army.

This was the old version (concept build):

And here's the new version (concept build):

I think I just really prefer the 40k parts to the WFB Skullcrusher bits for the rider. Previously, I was using the Skullcrusher torso, left arm, and legs with a 40k head, shoulder pads, and right arm. I still like the CSM Khorne champion head from the original, but I think I like the 30k Night Lords Terror Squad heads better. There is variation among them, so the riders don't all look identical, and the skull visage is just perfect for a Khorne Daemonkin army, IMO.

It will require far more work, but now I'm going to use 40k berzerker torsos (not pictured, the one used is from the CSM kit), and Thunderwolf Cavalry arms/legs. Based on the procedure I used to achieve the new mock-up: I'll use a dremel/blade to carve away the pelvis from inside of the saddle. Then, I'll trim a bit of the power armor from the butt section of the legs to make it fit in the saddle.

The Skullcrusher legs have waaaay more detail, so I'll be adding a ton of bling in the form of brass Khorne icons, sculpted greenstuff, and so on. I'm also debating whether or not I want to make stirrups. I think they improve the believability of the rider being able to fight from juggernautback, rather than merely sitting there. The other thing I'm debating is reins. In my "fluff" of the unit there's a sort of mental link between rider and mount, and in general the juggernaut is going to charge straight toward the enemy - which is probably where the rider wants to be, as well.

So there are going to be at least 18 of these guys. I've "saved" money by buying the juggernauts second hand on ebay and from friends and such, but I've easily spent as much as I would have on the full kits including all the bits I've purchased for them. :laugh.:

Here he is on an assembled juggernaut, gives a better idea of the scale of things:

Only the unit champions will have the Khorne symbol on their helms.

Don't know if it's the angle, but would sculpting some extra "saddle" under the rider make it seem more "I sits, I fits"? Could just be me, but I think it would add the the army feel, but something with hanging skulls or such

Just a thought, but if you're using the Berserker torsos (some with lots of chain) have you considered "chaining" the riders to the Juggs somehow ? I know the kits have lots of excess chain, but it depends on what bits you have. A wee idea given the madness of twenty of them !

You could even do injured/dead riders still dragged along by their steely steed.......

I have thought about chains, but haven't made my mind up about them yet. I have some jewelry chain for hobby purposes, either for decoration or as reins of sorts.

Pfft, no injured or dead riders here! Only the piles and piles of skulls they reap for the skull throne!

Soon their legs, arms, and torsos will arrive, and the real work can begin!

This post makes me happy :D Onwards, Juggerhoard, to screams and slaughter!

What do you guys think of this chainaxe? I'm thinking that I can to add a little variety to the unit by modifying the weapons just a little bit. Is this too over the top? Does it look like a "believable" weapon? Obviously the final version would be aligned straight and have a little green stuff to fill the appropriate gaps.

Here it is:

That chain axe is the biz. It wasn't uncommon for certain axes to have hand guards, and certainly has that more "hold lever to use choppy death" feel to it!

Plus, it looks like a good set of knuckles to smash someone in the dish with, if they get too close

Looks pretty sweet. Is it from the FW kit?

So, I just showcased this plog, and was struck by something that needs rectifying: when is Gorehowl getting a paintjob?

Dragonlover

Uuuuum... *tugs shirt collar nervously*

Honestly I don't have anything but excuses :biggrin.:. I feel like my modeling/painting skills are not yet up to snuff for how good I want Arctos Gorehowl to look. The most honest explanation is that I just can't seem to finish a project, but bounce around between them because I'm a silly perfectionist. I'm working on this major flaw...

Sweet, thanks! Feedback has been quite positive all around, I'll definitely use the hand guards. They also serve to lengthen the haft a bit, which is something I was trying to figure out from the get. Woohoo! Choppy choppy splatter death!

Dude, just go for it. If it all goes horribly wrong, we invented Dettol for a reason!

Dragonlover

You're right, for sure. My other problem is that I have a project for each millennium in Warhammer 40,000 :tongue.: . Trying to focus on one at a time. Right now my priority is the ~20 Skullcrushers-as-biker horde for the Brass Stampede. Also Flesh Hounds, a Greater Brass Scorpion, a Bloodthirster, and of course, Arctos Gorehowl.

Greater Brass Scorpion eh? Have you already built it? If not, Augustus B'Raas did a blinding tutorial on how to do so that I wish I'd seen before I put mine together.

Dragonloevr

No, I'll have to check that out! I'm in the pre-assembly cleanup stage. I've almost finished trimming/filing flash away. I'll need to use a blowdryer and bend some pieces into proper alignment, then it'll be ready to go!

I'll search the forum for that tutorial. Thanks!

Venomlust - Just had a quick look & really like the Daemonkin warband you've been collecting.  Lot of cool conversion.  The Juggernaut conversion are looking cool & the Night Lord Terror squad helmet click in better.  Really looking forward to seen them fully painted & future updates on the warband :D
