The conclusion of campaign comes down this game. If one of the two teams can achieve more points than the Ork and Necron alliance then they can achieve planetary domination. 6000 points a side. Apoc rules and scoring. Finest hours allowed. Turn 1 45 minutes max. Turns 2-5 30 minutes max. As per apoc rules VPs were scored at the breaks (after turn 1, 3, 5). VP could be spent one per turn to use strategems taken from the apoc strategic assest cards.

On the outskirts of Hive Phobos... in the wasteland of the outside of the Orin River... the Eldar and their brothers of destruction rode forth to meet the Imperial space marines one final time...

We tried to deploy at the outset but got caught up for not having everything on the table in time and the librarius and some extra deathmarine squads couldnt get on the table. Azreal was named the warmaster. The Deathmarines were led by Capt Ranuk and they took a full battle company. The Ravenwing formation was used by the dark angels, as well as the masters of the Chapter formation and the Librarius formation.

Across from us was just a wall of black and blue death: 6 wave serpents, revenant titan, a knight titan, 2 wratithknights, raiders, grotesques, beasts, Haemoculi, wiches, and of course Dr. Fansworth and the Autarch Kexiao with his mantle on a jetbike. The autarch was named the Warmaster. The eldar were 300 points short so we said they should take an extra asset. All was prepared and then they stole initiative!

E1 -The eldar brothers layed waste to the bikes, they were dying left and right. Since they all had scouted forward they had not much cover and very little backup from the marines holding the rear objectives. NOt sure what the revenant shot, but it was pretty nasty too.

M1 - The bottom of turn one. the tricksy eldar revealed a shield gen strategem which protected the revenant. Azreal and his crew of captains dropped in as did a death marine dreadnaught who fired into the rear of the knight titan, but that was the direction it had angled its void shield. With its front unprotected the death marines devastators unleashed a volley of las canon fire into the knight, blowing it sky high and vaporizing some wiches in the explosion. Azreal ordered an all out attack which resulted in destroying a wave serpent. At break 1 score was 3-3 with each team holding their own objectives.

E2 - The eldar forces again lashed into the marine bikers blasting them sky high, but also realized the danger of the typhoon Landspeeders and shot down as many as they could. The revenant, seeking venegence for the knight titan blasted at the devastators. The shooting was furious with the ravenwing taking heavy casaulties, and the High command getting lit up from heavy dark eldar shooting. Then Dr. Farnsworth and the Autarch, their eyes gleaming with the thought of taking vengence on Azreal prepared to charge, the autarch reached Azreal who bellowed a challenge, but before the coven of the black heart could charge in to support him time ran out! Saved by the bell!

M2 - Marine reserves arrive. Attack bikes fly on from the flanks and Deathmarine dreanaughts drop from the sky. The marines slowly advance and the librarius arrives. With Dark eldar reavers bearing down, the deathmarines reveal a minefield on one flank near their objective but, little do they know it will not help against the skilled riders of the Dark eldar! Unthinking (though it did not effect the battle) we also issue the trophy kill on the autarch's head. Two attack bikes reach the eldar back field and fire on the revenant rear armor (10) but only hit its holo-projections, while a dreadnaught removes a single HP. a few raiders are blasted from the sky, but the marines can't put much of a dent in the eldar forces. The battle continues between the autarch and Azreal, but each can do nothing to the other.

E 3 - Determined to mulch every single bike the ravenwing continues to take a beating from the wave serpents, who also position themselves for taking objectives. while the revenant fires on something? to not much effect. venoms also pour in the pain. the wraith knights clean up an entire flank with distortion cannons and beasts rise up to meet the attack bikes near the revenant. Then Dr. Farnsworth charges and the terrible fury of the Dark Eldar is unleashed. The Dark Angel Masters are charged by 4 squads! wiches, heamonculi, grotesques and all boosted by the presence of a Talos pain engine. The Dark angels are outnumbered at least 3 to 1. All the captains end up in challenges, with grotesques, hamoculi, and others while azreal must content himself with kexiao, whos good luck holds and he flees the scene with a hit and run. Meanwhile the reavers charge at the nearby tactical squad but dont realize that the battle company recieves 12" supporting fire, and counter attack! the reavers and marines are locked in a desperate combat.

M3 With their enemies swirling all four captains and azreal declare their finest hours (but I forget about rolling on the exemplar chart! ArrrggH!) The last few remaining bikes and speeders desperately attempt to claim objectives while the marines battle furiously all over the field capt. ranuk also sends his his forces to battle reavers. Menwhile the revenant is charged by furioso who carves it up with a chain fist for 5 hull points causing it to go supernova.

Break 2 score 9-8 marines. The destruction of the revenant  made the difference, but its still close with each team claiming a backfield objective for six points a piece but each team using a strategem.

Can the Eldar pull back infornt having decimated the Dark angels thus far? Or will the Dark Angels hold on?

While waiting for the final installment I will show you the results of the second game which was taking place at the same time. This battle was between the Emperor's Children allied to the Tau and the 325 ICG guard, and the unholy alliance of the Necrons and the Orks with their looted superheavy and the might of the CTan Shard.

The marine/tau army featured Tau fire support with tanks and four Riptides in the back. The guard brought four Leman Russ tanks in the back. The marine contingent was several three man squads of grav armed bikers, melta armed Land Speeders and I think five? Drop podding dual-melta contempt or dreads. Also appearing was a land raider packed with 20 marines led by the dreaded primarch of the Emperors Children. Additionally, their team fielded an immobilized bane blade as a campaign bonus.

The Necron/Ork/Mechanicum force was much more eclectic. Each general brought a Superheavy to the table just for the heck of it, so Ghazhkull's personal bane blade (containing of course a mob of Meganobz and the Big Boss Himself) and a Necron Transcendant C'tan. Beyond that it was a mess of transports, tanks, infantry and bikers.

Turn one, the Marine Drop strike led first. Five crazed dreads hammered down to obstruct the approaching horde, but their meltas were for the most part thwarted by Jink saves, Superheavy armor and sheer luck on our side with bad to hit/to pen rolls. Commander Farsight, in a calculated gambit, landed on the enemy sky shield pad and unleashed hellfire on the Mechanicum Myrmidons to silence their conversion beamers before they could be fired. In the end, hull points were down but the horde rolled on. In response, all but one of the dreads fell to concentrated gauss fire and the devastating paths of the Superheavy tank and godlike Ctan monster.

Turn two, the marines attempted another surgical strike with their grav-bikes and melta speeders while the tau brought massive fire to bear on any exposed infantry. Ion accelerator and melta beam took a deadly toll, but the raucous Ork horde rolled on, inspired by the awesome display of power by their esteemed leader. In an uneven wave, the greenskins collided with the Astartes ranks while the Emperor's children Land Raider that was to be their supporting muscle exploded to a Necron surgical strike. Only the strength of the primarch enabled him to survive the baleful fire unleashed by the unfettered star god as his men were forced to disembark-an entire Space Marine squad reduced to one furious warrior.

IMG_6539.gif

Turn three , a squad of mechanicum Thallax judged their numerical advantage sufficient to challenge the lone power armored figure, but even the perfection of the machine proved no match for the vengeful wrath of a scion of the emperor-all nine were torn to shreds in the blink of an eye. The Ctan do not brook insolence from mere mortals easily, however, and one again the star-beam carved across his path. A cursory scan of the area by the Magos' complex optics array revealed not a single organic molecule-whether the primarch's ultimate demise had taken place, or he had escaped by some trickery of his infernal masters, the combatants had no time to speculate.

Despite the death of their commander, the marine forces rallied thanks to the devastation wrought on the opposing infantry forces by the precise ion fire of the tau cadre. They claimed tactical victory that turn and knocked several hit points off the C'tan.

IMG_6579.gif

By turn five, however, their lines wavered. The sheer number of the foe gave them a kind of implacable lumbering momentum, and not even the steady fire from the Riptides and bane blade could stem the green tide. The great Warboss himself vaulted from his tank after a quick bellowed order to "squash anyfink wot moves" and joined the fray, guffawing cheerily as he tossed bikers and speeders alike about like rag dolls with his faithful Mega-Armor Corps(e).

The enraged and increasingly unstable Ctan hurled itself into the enemy lines, leaving a trail of twisted steel and charred bodies as it went, and the opposing army withdrew to safety. The baneblade say immobile, however, and continued to hammer the ctan's corporeal form with all guns as its allies retreated. As the maddened star god carved into the ancient war machine, it discovered the final gambit of the Astartes-a vortex grenade, rigged as a mine at the heart of the tank's machine spirit cortex. The resulting explosion of the transcendent Ctan was absorbed into the all consuming nothingness of the vortex, and its dying shrieks signaled the end of the hostilities.

and now back to the battle between the the Eldar allinace and the Marines of the deathmarines and the Dark angels.

e4d.gif

E4 - The Eldar again are up to no good and fire off a blind barrage cutting off LOS from the marine devastators. The last of the straggling ravenwing bikes are destroyed. one Wraithknight jumps into combat with the tactical squad and one of the dark angel captains falls to instant death, as does azreal (though he should have just been down to one wound due to continuing finest hour. yech, gotta remember my rules better).

m4a.gif

m4b.gif

M4 - The ravenwing rides again! the dark angels use the reinfocement asset to bring back the ravenwing formation, who had been killed to a man! They proceed to outflank and wipe out the Talos pain engine, and a wraithknight. The librarius having done nothing all game finally gets close enough to launch a force vortex on the nearest wave serpent but of course, roll a 1 for damage. Meanwhile Captain ranuk charges in against the wraithknight that is sagaving his marines and slays it! (i think). There is only one Dark angel Captain left and he challenges Dr. Farnsworth to single combat.

E5 - the unexpected arrival of the ravenwing has changed things and the eldar have become desperate. they prepare to launch an orbital strike on the ravenwing but a lone wraithguard in the middle of the pack prevents them from placing the template! So they decide to keep their nukes for another day. At this point the Autarch takes it on himslef to declare a finest hour and attempt to cut down the Deathmarine captain. But after their clash neither is able to bring down the other. Dr Farnsworth is still in combat with the lone dark angels captain, who in so doing is still tying up about 500 points of models.

M5 The marines move but we end it early without playing out the shooting and assault phase, marines are clearly in control of 4 objectives, but the eldar concede and the marines carry the field. Taking their lead into the final break the score comes out as follows.

Final tally 26 - 12. Game was amazing and my opponents were incredible. In the end the marines have more in the tank and more points than the orks and necrons. The marines reclaim Umbral void and clear the xenos from the planet!
