I just got my melta-lance built. I now have the lance, bombard, storm cannon, and a claw. If I keep it up I'll need another body.

That's exactly how I ended up with four over two Legion armies. "Well I've already got all these magnetised spare arms..."

I feel they are a bit less easily justified in 40k  the options aren't as solid in that system.  Still scary but largely neutered. For 30k though I  will be building and painting more of them. Though they will be for my wolves.

The Melta-lance is in 40k, which in that ceramite-less environment it'll do some real work. I'd almost run double lance for the lulz.

Plus the Drill is pretty cool there too for super-heavies or the Claw for Wraith-Knights etc.

I don't think it's damage output is dialed down in 40K too much (even though no grav/choom/phosphex is borderline abominable) but I think the bigger kicker is the stupid amount of high power weaponry compared to 30K. Yes yes there's still lots there (more in a lot of ways) but just as an example, Eldar can be dropping D barrages on it, even with it's trusty pod shielding it, that's a lot of fire to shrug off. It'll still wreck face, the danger is it actually getting to do it,

Since the subject of Talons has come up recently, how do people envisage running more than one? My single one at the minute I run with Claw/Grav/Phosphex/Choom to max out on it's versatility however if I knew I'd be going against any LOW or Knights I'd drop the grav for the melta. Looking forwards to expanding the Talon though, I think a Drill/Melta would compliment Grav/Claw perfectly with a third Levi rocking a Claw/Drill. What do people run Talons loaded out with? Is it based on Meta or personal preference

I do the same as above. In South Texas, the Deathblossom variant is very popular (two storm cannons, two volkites, phosphex). I feel it wastes the dreads immense melee potential but it's hard to argue with the results it provides against any sort of infantry, vehicle squadrons, or monstrous creatures. Tying it up in melee like the other variants seems the obvious answer, but that overwatch can be brutal.

A Leviathan saved my bacon today.

2.5K game, Night Lords Terror Assault v Emperor's Children with Fulgrim.

Fulgrim was doing his thing knocking my squads around, untill I got my Levie into CC with his Siege claw and drill.

Fulgrim just couldn't damage him, the few times he managed to get a rend I made my save.

Game ended with Fulgrim on two wounds and facing an uncertain future :P

Siege drill/melta combo. Turn one killed a knight. Turn 2 killed a land raider, turn 4 killed the whole command squad except that one dude..... Who had a melta bomb.... And planted it on my reactor core.... And I died

Lucky dice rolling?  So what you're saying is .. it's got a little bite to it?  Curiosity wants to know more :)

Average dice rolling id say. Charged the knight(which was a,command one) when first. Kicked his arse. The landraider was a sitting target. 4 str10 auto hits. The command squad charged me. Took 4 out of 5 out but last one got a lucky hit. My dice were awful most the knight. He done two snake eyes to pen the knight first two rolls lol
What are some good tactics if you are going to be running one foot slogging, (still can't fully decide on legion even though I have some IH models) liking the idea of T5 black shield breachers with a leviathan or two (there will be a forge lord which may help keep him around longer) though since black shields can't have pods need ways of overcoming this but still include the awesome dread Edited by teutonicavenger
