Reminds me of an anecdote from a Neil Gaiman story that the best possible way to make a map would be to actually create the land pictured by the map The effect seems to be worth the hassle, though -- very nice! If I can make one suggestion, I think the placement was better in your earlier WIP shot. The beads just seemed to better interact with the heraldry behind them, while the last picture has the beads interfering with the feathers around the heraldic plate, if you ask me. Anyway, never a dull moment in this thread!
