Well I've been burning the metaphorical midnight oil and now have two more recruits ready to join the hunt.

I just couldn't resist, who knew if you just hold your chain sword with two hands it turns into a slightly better powerfist?

So that leaves 3rd Coys tracker at 19 done 121 (including transports) to go.

Thanks for looking C&C always welcome.

Yup. That's what I call some good painting there. Oh no, I hear banjo music :laugh.:!

I'm really enjoying these two Assault Marines. They look dynamic on those debris lifts. Ah, but the eviscerator- my true love. Back when I was a fighting priest for the Imperial Guard, it never left my side. What am I saying? It was my retirement gift . Seriously, that eviscerator is just mean looking. I put one on my Assault Marines and it looks smashing. Great minds think alike, I suppose.

Congrats on two more down. Keep it up !

Thanks every one for the kind comments.

@Mehman; Yep gotta love the eviscerator, it does look so bad ass

@ Brother Arkley; Thank you, I'm looking forwards to getting to that command squad now with their Baldes of Alaric observer...

@ Gillyfish; These are the first time I've ever bothered to put full squad, chapter and company markings on space marines and I'm now wondering why I never bothered before it really does add something. just incase anyone was wondering the red and bone markings are a campaign badge that all of my forces of the imperium are getting.

@ Isiah; Cheers. The new assault marines are my favorite models at the moment, I'm a little blue that they have forgotten how to use melta guns, but everything else more than makes up for it.

the next two arnt getting rubble bases this is because the are going to get pushed to the front in every game to help meat shield the plasma pistols, powerfists and of course the apple of my eye the eviscerator. this way I hope will add a nice dynamic to the squad with them the "specials" having a little more height.

Thank you both, I'm overwhelmed by how positive everyone has been about my little dudes in black.:thanks:

Now this chap I have to confess I have been keeping in my back pocket a bit whilst I worked through the infantry of my first demi company. Some of you on here may well of heard about dreadtober, it was a sort of a thing among the blogging community to make and paint a dreadnought in October. I found out about it thanks to Spellcheck over on the dark city where I hang out for my Dark eldar fix (I'm sure he posts in the Wolves forum with his stunning sons of Russ). So caught up in the spirit of things I rushed off and came up with Honored Brother Octo. He has been done for a few weeks but I was going to wait to show him off but when Grand Master Belial cant wait to see more I feel its foolish to delay:biggrin.:

http://i23.photobucket.com/albums/b355/tasciovanous/Dark%20angels/797.jpg

I hope you all like him. I really did enjoy putting him together and then slapping paint on! I did get him finished on the 30th of October so just made the deadline by the skin of my teeth.

As ever I'd love to know what you think

3rd Company is 25 down 115 to go.

I love the red heraldry stripe down the right shoulder. I admit to having done something similar to my ... umm ... Fallen Dreadnought. The paint job is ace, but my biggest note is the flash picked up something shiny around the decals, like a spot application of 'Ardcoat or other sealer that was not applied to the rest of the mini. In the grand scheme of things, it is a minor detail compared to the paint job and the fact it was a part of a painting competition with a deadline.

Run a couple of layers of Lahmian Medium or Matte Varnish/Matte Medium over the decal area and it should take care of the (likely) unwanted shine from the decal.

Thank you both for taking the time to comment.

@grand master Belial: You are absolutely correct it is gloss varnish reflecting, normally I satin varnish my dudes after paint and decals but the weather conditions haven't been the best of late. Having ended up with a frosty coated Dark Elf regiment before I'm a bit wary now!

@ Bryan Blaire: Thanks for the suggestion I will have a go, it looks like its going to be a while till I'm brave enough to get the varnish can out.

To everyone else who has liked what I've done so far thank you I hope to have more to show in the next day or so.

Hi again,

@ Brother Arkley Thanks I like them more and more the stubborn little cusses. I played a pick up game tonight and by staying in AoV character managed to pull off a solid win. Highlight of the game was the lone tactical Sargent charging and challenging the Iron Hands Chapter master who had the burning sword of killy death just to get a VP from the hunt for glory objective. Bless him that Sarge knew his number was up but charged in there just to insure victory, how Angels of Vengeance is that?

@ Dark Rage Thanks I'm glad you like Brother Octo and 7th Squad. Octo also had a good game tonight, blowing both arms off one IH dread and then punching it and its brother to bits before trundling off to seriously ventilate and melt some pesky IH Tactical squads.

Anyhoo happy toy soldiers memories aside I've pressed on with my latest Tactical squad and have one combat squads worth done.

Hi all,

@Dark Rage Thanks, my work rate is reasonably good because I work unsociable hours. As most right minded people are either home from work hours before me or hours after me I get a fair bit of time to fill before I can consider having a social life :laugh.:

@Gillyfish  I guess haters just gonna hate or something like that:biggrin.: Seriously thanks In all honesty all the positive support I've been getting from everyone on here is seriously motivating me to keep on.:thanks:

Now all that said about motivation I've sort of been a bit distracted by some space elf death clowns but I've still managed to spend some time to get back in black...

Greeting Brothers,

Yay old style beaky helms. Just can't beat them in that AoV scheme

Cheers
I

Yep I do love the MK6 its what real marines wear don't ya know:wink:  MK6 should always have a stripe down the middle its just the rules!

So its been nearly a week and I've been beavering away in the wee small hours and have finished my tactical squad. This puts me at about half way done on a full demi company, 1 more tactical squad, 5 bolter wielding devastators, 5 assault marines, a Veterans Squad and the Command Squad to go.  3rd company also managed another victory against the Iron Hands it was a real blood bath with only 2 beaten up squads of Iron Hand scouts left standing and 2 sergeants,  3 marines and 1 Las Devastator

representing the entire battle fit complement of 3rd company! but a 17 to 13 VP win to succor the wounded and justify the terrible losses.

I aplogise for some of the photos one of the bulbs in my photo set blew the pictures looked like I'd got away with it on the camera but they are jolly dark now I look at them properly.

So now a couple of questions for you the good folk of the rock.

Are the individual photos a bit much?

Would just combat squad portraiture be better?

Would more detail be better (ie front and back views)?

Should I just concentrate on the characters?

Does my wonky calligraphy on the grav gun muck it up?

As ever I love to know what you think and any critique is always welcome

3rd Company now  32 done 110 to go.

Edit added my progress tracker Did I paint 30 or 32? in all the excitement I kinda lost count...

Greeting Brothers,

..snip..

So now a couple of questions for you the good folk of the rock.

Are the individual photos a bit much? Nope, but the five man ones look best

Would just combat squad portraiture be better? Yep

Would more detail be better (ie front and back views)? Nah, leave some mystery

Should I just concentrate on the characters? Nope, all your dudes are cool

Does my wonky calligraphy on the grav gun muck it up? Nope, only the E is wonky, and it still looks cool

As ever I love to know what you think and any critique is always welcome Will do Possum

3rd Company now  32 done 110 to go. AWESOME!!! Keep it up

Edit added my progress tracker Did I paint 30 or 32? in all the excitement I kinda lost count...Me too, go back and recount ;)

  • 2 weeks later...

My My I have been remiss 11 days with out anything to show for it, I'll be attracting accusations of slacking if I'm not careful...

1st off Thanks for the reply Brother Stobz. Takeing your comments into consideration although I've got some Scouts done I'll wait till the whole squad is ready to post up.

What I have got to show is the first member of 3rd Company's motor pool. The Rhino/Razor Back "Ardent".

http://i23.photobucket.com/albums/b355/tasciovanous/Dark%20angels/002_5.jpg

http://i23.photobucket.com/albums/b355/tasciovanous/Dark%20angels/001_6.jpg

http://i23.photobucket.com/albums/b355/tasciovanous/Dark%20angels/003_1.jpg

http://i23.photobucket.com/albums/b355/tasciovanous/Dark%20angels/004_1.jpg

Now I know that that is a lot of photos of one Rhino but, Well I did paint the inside and stuff and it does turn in to a las Razor if wanted...

Also previously I had only painted 31 members of 3rd company not 32 (turns out the excitement really was too much.)

But now the log can legitimately show 32 done 110 to go:smile.:

As always C&C welcome.
