bluntblade
I'd throw that question out more generally. Mars is polluted to hell, but I reckon Alex would be wary of contaminating important Forges. simison
Numbers... pre or post-DoR? Diplomat Corps are split between two major functions. One, attempt to put down rebellions without large-scale deployment of Imperial forces. This dominates the first third of the Insurrection, alongside preventing new rebellions or defections to the Traitors. Two, coordinating disparate Imperial factions. This occurs throughout the war, ensuring the Loyalists are united and acting in concert. Destroyer deployment would be limited to previously irradiated areas. Alex needs Mars intact. Sigismund229
Post DoR EDIT: And would I be on the right track with the idea that, rather than using it as a punishment, service in the Wardens destroyer cadre was limited in length(maybe to just two years?) with the opportunity to "re-enlist" for another two years, with the shortfall being made up through a lot across the rest of the legion to find new recruits for the destroyers? simison
That's a good idea. While Alex doesn't like the Destroyers, he wouldn't want to turn it into a form of punishment. Simply being a part of a specialist unit shouldn't be used that way. Let's see, 240k pre-DoR, split between 7 Cohorts. That puts it somewhere in the range of 33-35k marines per Cohort. Except Cohort 7 is honorary, protecting Delos during the Great Crusade. Hm, wait, that's old Lost Legion fluff. Have it be 20k, but split in half protecting Terra and Delos, mostly honorary during the Great Crusade. That's about 13-15k that needs to be split among the other 6 Cohorts. So, each of them gets around 2-2.5k, putting the other Cohorts at 35-38k. 20k lost on DoR, mostly from Cohort 1, 4, & 5. Hmm, thinking on it, I'm not sure if Cohort 6, an explicitly anti-rebellion Cohort, makes sense in BotL. Rather, it'd make sense until Alex is appointed to Warmaster. One of the things we've established is that disloyalty toward Terra is reduced on a galactic-scale. Hm, I think the Cohort will stay, but will go from a standard Cohort size to reduced to represent the fewer opportunities to practice their craft. So, they never reach the 35k size of other Cohorts, middling around at 15k. And then come the Insurrection, they jump in importance. So, that's 20k to spread among 5 Cohorts. An additional 4k places Cohorts 1-5 at 39k-42k marines. Which makes sense that the garrison Cohort would need more bodies to compensate for the new territory and no Iron Warriors to share the burden with. Each of the factions correspond or have a home in one of the existing Cohorts. Order of the Shield forms a large part of Cohort 1, Cohort 2 is home to the Prefects, and Cohort 3 sees the Caryana. The Diplomatic Corps stands stretched between Cohort 4 & 5 as they are aiding in keeping the Imperium running smoothly with the garrisons or keeping the Great Crusade working together while assigned to other Legions. Post DoR Faction numbers Order of the Shield: From 31k to 24k Prefects: From 6k to 6k Order of the Mind: 14k to 13k Diplomatic Corps: 20k - 18k Hmmm, interesting how that came out. Sigismund229
Don't remember if you already outlined the colours&such of the HW under Malis. Perhaps black as a primary and orange as a secondary with an argead star as their symbol? And would you mind of I did a bit of work fleshing out the Halcyon Wardens' destroyer cadre? Also, so there are 169,000-179,000 HW who aren't part of any Order? simison
The Orders are optional, and Alex is careful to treat all of his sons equally. The Terran marines aren't overall inclined, while it is possible to carry a shield without being in the Order. Knock yourself out. I don't think I did. Not big on...did you mean to use Halloween colors? ~Drakzilla~
Why would the defectors need to change their colors? Unless they're planning on changing their name and becoming Blackshields, I don't see the point of adding another layer of complication to the mix. The vast majority of loyalist/traitor defectors in canon at least tend to keep their colors. If I remember right it's quite a large force, around 6000 or so Around there, the bulk of it Traitor members of the Order of the Shield. Though Drak does bring up a point to reflect upon. How many traitors to any one Legion actually changed their colours? The only example I can think of off-hand are the Luna Wolves on Isstvan III removing their Sons of Horus heraldry. Should this color change happen post-Insurrection? bluntblade
I think they should alter it, but not going black. ~Drakzilla~
They could change their heraldry to incorporate a nod to the Stormborn. Maybe add lightning bolts to their icon? Or maybe just change the shoulders from red to black, similar to the Harbingers' black shoulders. simison, Demus Ragnok and Kelborn 3 Back to top Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/316969-il-v-the-halcyon-wardens/page/20/#findComment-4688248 Share on other sites

simison
So, today Nate finally ordered the Knight Acheron as part of a group order with a bunch of guys from the LFGS. Now that it's on the way, I intend to add it to House Zivich's ranks. But the question I have is, 'who' should pilot it? I ask because it'll affect the paint scheme. Nate suggests having the leader of the Knight House (Thom) simply move up into the more sophisticated war machine, but that means having two knight-titans with the exact same paint scheme to represent the High Steward. Furthermore, the Acheron fluff doesn't lend itself well to Thom's character. So, I'm really not in favor of Thom moving to pilot the Acheron, but, in that vein of thought, what would be a good High King suit for someone who fights with the Wardens? bluntblade
Gotcha. Books mention pilots wearing suits when using their walkers, replete with helmets for interfacing, hence my confusion. Also, on the offchance that we manage to do "War Machines of X Legion", here's an entry for the V: Dartwing Interceptor, Tenacity The Tenacity was one of the Shield of Delos’ complement of interceptor craft for two decades, until the Day of Revelation. The Dartwing pattern has its origins in the early days of Alexandros’ rule over Delos, designed to combat the xenos marauders who threatened the planet. Despite the disdain of the Mechanicus, the influence of the Primarch ensured that the interceptors were improved sufficient to make them viable weapons for a Legion Astartes fleet. Tenacity spent its last seven years being piloted by Gaius Amelos, overall commander of the ship’s interceptor wing. On the Day of Revelation, Amelos initially led sorties against the Harbingers’ bomber runs, scoring seven kills. Recorded vox-communications reveal that, with the Wardens’ inevitable defeat becoming clear, the Shield of Delos’ entire array of voidcraft deployed, their pilots both to ensure the escape of the (whichever ship escapes) and to deny their craft to the traitors. Amelos commanded the attack on the pursuing (Harbigers ship which leads the chase) and undoubtedly found his death in the process.
