Making an alpha legion infiltrating raven guard army help

Greetings all, I am currently trying to get into 30k and I am really interested in creating an army where the alpha legion infiltrates the raven guard (also gives me an excuse to play both armies msn-wink.gif ). I know in the fluff, the alpha legion did infiltrate the raven guard after the istvaan V massacre, so my army does have a place in the fluff.

Now I have a ruff idea on how I want to paint them, painting the army in raven guard colours with subtle alpha legion iconography. But I am stuck with army composition. Ideally I want to use the army for both 30k and 40k (because I am cheap like that tongue.png ) where I would have the same core units and swap out specialist units/have dual purpose units.

The list I have in mind for 30k is Pride of the Legion, with a core of, 20 veteran marines, 5 terminators, 5 seekers, a unit of mor dyhtan/head hunters. Models that would alter between armies would be dark furies, Skorr (converted), Raven guard praetor, etc.

Models I have are (mostly from the betrayal at carth set):

20 mk4

5 mk6

5 sternguard models (which will be used as seekers/mor dythan)

5 terminators

1 contemptor (might use it for another project)

1 quad mortar (using the thunder fire cannon model)

1 rhino

1 drop pod

Any help or suggestions in how to make the army would be appreciated. I am aiming for 2k points, but can expand.

Thanks.

Paint them as Raven Guard, use Alpha Legion Rules?

I was going to use both rules (not at the same time tho tongue.png ).

Paint them as Raven Guard, use Alpha Legion Rules?

Paint as alpha legion use the liquid mask then paint as raven guard with some AL showing...... haha

As for paint, I've never used liquid mask, so don't know how to do that. What I was going to go with was Raven Guard colours with faded Raven Guard markings, such as having XIX, where the I is faded out. And also add some stubble alpha legion markings, such as chains, Alpha symbol and etc.

I think this is a good idea, keep the raven guard feel but with subtile hints of xx markings. Was this what you're looking for or was it more of an army list question?

Thanks for the replies.

Yeah, I was wanting some help with building an army list, basically my question is how can I make an army list that can represent both armies effectively, with the theme I'm going with?

Also wandering, what do people think of a Raven guard praetor in termy armour with some termies riding a storm eagle? Would it be thematic enough?

Thanks for the replies.

Check the HH books.

You can piack and choose any units from there, and all will represent a force from the respective legion. They all used all tactics and methods of warfare at somepoint in the Crusade.

When you say the HH books, you mean books 1-5? As right now I am using the red books.

From what I've seen, I am making a primarily infiltrating force with units that can perform multiple roles.

The list I came up with for a 2k Raven Guard pride of the legion list

HQ

Praetor (180pts)

paragon blade, terminator armour, harness, digital laser

Troops

terminator squad (5) (248pts)

4x combi-plasma, 1 plasma blaster, 1 chainfists, 4 power fists

Veteran Squad (10) (265pts)

melta bombs, 2x plasma, combi-flamer, sniper

Veteran Squad (10) (265pts)

melta bombs, 2x plasma, combi-flamer, sniper

Elites

Quad mortar (60pts)

Quad mortar (60pts)

mor dythan (6) (243pts)

4x combi, 2x missile launcher, rhino, combi-melta on rhino

Fast Attack

Dark Fury (5) (180pts)

melta bomb

seekers (5) (225pts)

5 combi

storm eagle (265)

MM, 2 lascannon

I generally change my tactics on the fly during games, but the general tactics are:

Mordythan infiltrate and scout with rhino and either jump out first turn to kill a unit go try and get rear armour of something and hopefully kill it.

Seekers go for biggest threat

Termies and praetor go in the eagle, hopefully they can come in by turn 2. Then go punch things when they come in. Eagle provides AA and some AT.

Furies are there to shred infantry, can also go in for assassinations (need some luck with that)

Veterans and mortars support above squads or try and do some damage.

For alpha legion I would take skorr, swap mordythan for headhuters (using the same models tho) and remove furies, but I don't know what to take in their place.
