Hey everyone, welcome to my hobby thread! If you're looking for one of the colour scheme tutorials from my 'March of the Legions' project or one of the basing tutorials, please check the bottom of this post for all of the relevant links. If you can't find what you're looking for or if you have a question that's not answered in the relevant post, please feel free to send me a private message. Regards, Kizzdougs. For more regular updates check out my Instagram account @raptorimperialis I've recently been feeling the urge to start a new 40K project. After much musing and many false starts, i've decided on the Thousand Sons, Pre-heresy. They aren't my favourite legion or chapter but the TS have always be a legion full of character, imagery and conversion opportunities. A perfect combination in my opinion. This project has been at least two years in the planning process. It all started when i converted a PH TS sorcerer for a conversion competition at my local GW (which i was lucky enough to win). After building the Sorcerer i knew i had to make some more TS, they are just so fun and different. Unfortunately it has taken me over two years to finally get here. The Sorcerer who started it all. He is a relatively simple kit bash with minimal GS work. I took inspiration from the Thousand Sons art in 'Collected Vissions', especially that of Ahriman and Uthizarr. http://i1122.photobucket.com/albums/l522/kizzdougs/photo-3.jpg The test mini. I used bits from several kits to build this terminator, the majority are from the GK terminator kit and the Tomb Guard kit (WHFB). http://i1122.photobucket.com/albums/l522/kizzdougs/DSCN0290.jpg?t=1313302289 With crest added. I can't decide whether to give all the terminators these crests or just keep them for the squad leaders. Any opinions and suggestions are welcome. http://i1122.photobucket.com/albums/l522/kizzdougs/DSCN0291.jpg?t=1313302233 http://i1122.photobucket.com/albums/l522/kizzdougs/DSCN0292.jpg?t=1313302169 A close up of the force weapon. Such a simple conversion but i'm fairly happy with how it turned out. Sorry about the bad lighting. http://i1122.photobucket.com/albums/l522/kizzdougs/DSCN0289.jpg?t=1313302359 Hopefully this project will develop and progress at a not too slow pace (fingers crossed). I plan on adding some Sisters of Silence and maybe even some Custodes at a later stage. I'm certainly feeling the necessary inspiration at the moment. Any and all suggestions and advice are more than welcome, as are questions and queries. Hello to everyone that may decide to follow me on this journey. A little background on me to explain where this is going and why I do things how I do them. I'm a slow painter at heart, with the, let's call it standard, approach to painting of applying a basecoat, shading, highlighting and so on it takes me ages to paint a unit. Adding to that the fact that when I apply basecoats on 10+ models in a row with a brush I feel like my soul is being sucked out and you can easily see why the idea of painting a full army is terrifying for me. BUT, I love fully painted armies. In my whole 17 years of hobby i only managed this feat twice, the first time it was a Black templar army (a weird one since it hade 6 land speeders thyphoon in it and it was almost a gunline, that packed some serious punch tho) and the second time an army for warmachine (other zealots with a penchant for flamethrowers). With the free time getting less and less as the years go by I started a journey of efficiency improvement and I'm now trying to paint a new army and finding my own way of speed painting at the same time. I want to point out that I greatly enjoy assembling and painting miniatures, just not basecoating. I decided to build a loyalist Alpha Legion force to start the process with the end goal of having a flexible force, playable as the different space marines chapter supplements and if needed even as chaos later down the line. Here's a teaser of what I've completed so far. Tactical demi-squad Hecaton. A quick couple of notes, I plan to go back and redo the plasma effect and I suck at taking pictures . Tell me what you think and what you like and don't, what I mostly enjoy of forums is the great degree of interaction with other hobbysts.

I've fallen into the same problem as a lot of other gamers... there are so many armies I'd like to build and no way to afford them all. Thus, I got to thinking about having one army I can use for any situation - Alpha Legion. I can use them for 40k or heresy, or play traitor or loyalist, all by just shuffling a couple units around. http://fc09.deviantart.net/fs70/i/2014/201/2/a/alpha_legion_01_by_kasumidoll-d7rj0cq.jpg http://fc05.deviantart.net/fs71/f/2014/201/8/d/alpha_legion_02_by_kasumidoll-d7rj0j2.jpg Test color scheme. http://img15.deviantart.net/2670/i/2015/150/2/0/alpha_omega_01_by_kasumidoll-d8vd8i8.jpg WIP on the primarchs.

When I was at a forgeworld event I was talking to painter while I was there and he suggested this scheme for my alpha legion as it was the scheme they are using. So I thought I would do a few models to see how they compare to purpley blue that I wanted to use and I'm quite impressed with the look but not sure it's right for my pre heresy look, I think it looks abit more post heresy but great still.-

hi pals- heresy newbie here, spinning my wheels in the hopes of coming up with an all-comers fun coils list. fluffwise i'm imagining an armored spearhead supported by mechanized infantry designed to crush the leadership of any organized resistance. mechanically speaking, the tacs are there to park on objectives, the seekers (with whom skorr rides in the proteus) to handle assassination, the butchers for tarpitting the biggest threat, and the heavy support as the toolkit for any outsize challenges. the rhinos have multimeltas so they can't be totally ignored, and the proteus and spartan are big and sturdy enough to be threats unto themselves. or so the plan goes. with skorr's warlord trait and mutable tactics, there's a fair amount of customization left over depending on the specific nature of the threat. i feel like points are stretched agonizingly thin - i'd love to max out the butchers and give them a consul escort, for example - but the impression i get is that's the nature of heresy lists. am i shooting myself in the foot trying to stay flexible? i don't intend to march this list into tournaments, but i'd like to avoid getting completely mopped up by someone who knows what they're doing... ++ Crusade (Legiones Astartes: Age of Darkness Army List) [2500pts] ++ + HQ + Autilon Skorr [125pts] + Elites + The Rewards of Treason [755pts] .
