Hey all,

found some Mkiv with shotguns on eBay and decided to bulk out my recon company.

The squad was stripped, rebased and repositioned. Then I added a few equipment pouches to the packs and made some capes using the tissue method:

Working on a few landspeeders, these models have been in the pile of shame for a while. The idea was to bring the Mars pattern speeder into the 30th millennium without spending a fortune.

I quite like the old up armoured second edition landspeeders and I wanted to try and emulate some of those aesthetics, what do you reckon:

Rotation magnets for the win!

Thanks chaps,

I knew I should have done a WIP stage by stage guide! I was too lazy to do it. Essentially the body of the speeder is made entirely from the original speeder kit with a few small additions. The crew are just plastic Mkiv torsos and the weapons are from the pintle weapons set, which is much cheaper to obtain as all the plastic HH tanks contain them.

I’ll try and do a retrospective build guide using model pics and GW sprue pics. You’re going to need a razor saw to make straight cuts and a nail file block to file down to a nice smooth shine. I stole my wife’s one:

First you need to prep the bottom of the hull to recess the rotation magnet:

Next you will need to prep the top plate, make the following cuts:

The very front piece will need the verticals details cutting down and smoothing out, remove the imperial eagle for extra marks! This is where the nail file comes in handy after some scalpel blade work:

The remaining two pieces should be glued together to form a new top plate:

Then you need to cut the vents from the top of the seats and trim the edges of them to follow the contour of the seat itself:

Then you need to prep the side plates making the following cuts:

Spoiler

Then you’re pretty much ready to build the hull itself. I recommend building it in one go to make sure there’s no warping.

Stay tuned for part 2…..

So,

now you need to start adding details to the hull to make it look more visually interesting.

Firstly, cover the holes where the original foot plate would be located on the side of the hull. To do this I used the heavy flamer file canister cut down:

Next you need to add the stabilising fin, I prefer the single central fin of the 2nd edition metal speeder. It’s essentially made out of the two ends of the original “spoiler”, glued together with a bit of green stuff to smooth out the top:

Spoiler

723EB2E2-0E06-42FF-8528-E8FA50289DFA.jpeg.e2d498b7a3369d330aa69e12e1c9758f.jpeg567C57DB-E4D6-450F-B068-BCF9EFA2918C.thumb.jpeg.d754219f0bc149cb5312d649528b80b3.jpeg84D1D0AB-AC36-4F4C-BF45-429740AAC0AF.thumb.jpeg.da75bf36c7a664c35870d6ec8f5232d8.jpeg

Next you can start detailing the interior behind the drivers seat. Firstly use the grill that was designed to fit on the rear of the typhoon launcher:

Spoiler

5D95496D-BB5A-466A-AFA9-67EF802CB441.jpeg.a8049934bfbd16723566088f9b6dad1b.jpegF98EB51D-17FF-48EC-97E2-F80E055F6A4B.thumb.jpeg.affc89c8f9cc6f9bac5501cc3bdad6af.jpeg

Next, start building the unit that sits behind the the seat. Start with by cutting down the back of the heavy flamer and glue it behind the seat plate:

Spoiler

Next, cut out one of the small rectangles on the original “bumper” and glue it to the side of the heavy flamer part:

Spoiler

Then you need a piece from the original rhino kit hatch, cut the small antenna off the side of the hatch and glue it on top:

Spoiler

BF7AB8A4-0BC8-4B35-8520-CEF41F82BC66.thumb.jpeg.60a00df44750129eb9bdbc7307c00510.jpeg701C3BBE-087C-4697-AEFF-4A0DE68612B6.thumb.jpeg.3f76666cf7113651e66d360f72044cbd.jpeg

Next bit is bit fiddly, you need to cut down the casing from the typhoon launchers, then drop them behind the seat to make the plate with the seat look a little deeper than it is:

Spoiler

98BFCE75-5151-4688-9C2F-7F664E27B968.thumb.jpeg.6d873c7074ea0d847e12a159489234b5.jpeg411015F8-F4F6-4E88-9692-60E03CCBE960.thumb.jpeg.779c402ddaecde2efc128aa17ce606d8.jpeg
You can just see it in this pic behind the antenna

That’s it for the main detailing. Next up a few extras that I added….

Finally, a few more details.

The antenna is taken from the Valkyrie kit and turned 90 degrees:

I used the scout sniper night vision goggles the finish the connecting piece on top of the hull:

Spoiler

Next I adapted the comms antenna on the front left of the speeder. I used the targeter from the hunter killer missile and a variety of lenses. You can use the one from the original spoiler, I also used a lens from the scout sniper rifle and half of the goggles:

Spoiler

07E2E5FE-B196-4E53-80C1-2C31F7488A7B.jpeg.a641092350b1fd595e21b18b8ed6070f.jpeg928A9477-169D-4B18-90E4-BC7F9E599BCB.thumb.jpeg.6fc7ee605d77a637c6c74c8f2fcfeb49.jpeg

The weapons were the easy bit. Any infantry heavy weapon can be adapted to be under slung. For two speeders I use the FW plasma cannon:

Spoiler

9039E07E-B0EE-472B-AB18-0FD162AC42C3.thumb.jpeg.db13d21d64871ebedd15f702c3bf629c.jpeg9AA57400-75DE-423B-BAE6-61B946FABC98.thumb.jpeg.1b9d707e1696f6a0b5bfcfa41255e5d4.jpeg

The other two speeders are armed for anti tank, multi Melta and two hunter killers to keep the cost down. The under slung HKs were glued together, with two targeters from the primaris infiltrator kit added:

And that, is pretty much it….good luck!
