So, I got this in the mail, in the place of a Spartan kit...

For anyone unfamiliar with the Spartan this definitely not what the contents should look like. This contained the resin pieces for 4 MKiib landraiders and 6 pieces for the spartan. They let me keep the pieces and $30 bucks and a craigslist add later this happened...

So, now these are my next two major projects..

I've gotten my first model done on my new basing scheme and I'm rather happy with it. I just need to order some more, convert the 25mm to 32mm, and rebase my army. What do you guys think?

@Depthcharge I've really been wanting a Leviathan, but its sadly further down on my list of things to get than some more artillery pieces and quad mortars.

Thanks for the compliments!

Looking superb as a force and great paint jobs. As a cheeky question, where did you order your upgrade kits from please and do you need all 4? :p feel free to PM if you'd rather not say here. Also highly recommend the leviathan. They're a joy to paint and lovely model.

Those upgrade kits and the other random pieces were all in a bag from Forgeworld that was supposed to be a spartan. I didn't even have a mkiib land raider in my order.i have no idea how that big of a mix up happens haha.

The dirt is done completely in pigments from secret weapon miniatures. If you haven't tried them before. I'd highly recommend them. For my miniatures I usually layer different color of brown with a nice fluffy dusting brush!

I though getting two apocalypse launchers was bad (good ;) ) enough. They are pretty good at sorting mistakes though. Looking forward to seeing these develop.

How are yo painting the bases? I need a decent colour scheme like yours

So, I've been continuing to base my Death Guard army and have been thinking about a second army. I find that I enjoy Son's of Horus and Emperor's Children. I am mainly looking at a second army as a painting project rather than to play, so its going to come down to paint scheme. I will be trying my hand at purple soon enough, but have given a SoH marine a go. I find the SoH color scheme to be interesting in that (for me) its really easy to make the color look bad. I think a lot of SoH marines I see are a little too light in color for my tastes. I would like to know what everyone thinks of this guy. I still need to precision wash him, add details and weathering, but the basics are blocked in.

What do you all think? Feel free to criticize away! Anything is helpful!

@ Col. The bases are first primed black. Then they airbrushed in a mahogany color from Vallejo. Then a couple then coats of u.s. Brown from Vallejo avoiding the rocks while targeting the sand and shadowed areas. Then I paint rhinox hide on the outer ring. Once the model is based I got to town with 3 different dusts. I start with violet targeting shadowed areas with a light dust over the rocky areas and at the base of the models feet. Then I use a regular brown dust to move out of the shadows and a little higher up the feet. Lastly I pick out the lightest areas with terra cotta earth (somewhat orangish brown).

I hope that helps! Feel free to pm me if you have any questions!

The test mini is complete minus basing. I'd like to make a final decision before investing time in making bases or money in getting some to match my death guard. What do you guys think? I know its not necessarily the traditional scheme, but its more in line how I like to see some SoH. Because of the rules update, I can't wait to get my hands on some sexy Justaerins.

@Red - I'm glad my work can be an inspiration! If you ever need any help with them, let me know. I'll be more than happy to give some advice. Good luck!

@Athrawes - Thanks! I haven't posted a guide but here are the basics:

1. Prime black

2. Airbrush base coat of inccubi darkness

3. Airbrush a 1:1 mix of inccubi darkness and kabalite green at 90 degree angle to the model then above so the undersides remain dark.

4. Repeat with kabalite green.

5. 45 degree angle airbrush of kabalite green and Vallejo emerald

6. Zenithal highlight with emerald.

7. Vallejo flat black

8. Leadbelcher with nuln

9. Warplock followed by rune lord brass

10. Precision wash with coelia green shade.

11. 1:1leadbelcher:flat black lightly sponged

12. Seal the model

13. Oils wash burnt umber

It seems like a lot but it's not that bad!

Thanks guys! Here are a few photos of the banner bearer. He still needs a few things done with him, but he's getting closer to done.

I know its been awhile since I've posted an update, but here it is! I've finally made headway on my second legion. I officially decided on Son's of Horus. Here are a couple work in progress shots of the test models for the three major categories of models in my army: reavers, Justies, and vets. Tell me where you think!

Thanks Pearson! I didn't even realize I did that haha. Now that you mention it, it does look good. I was just trying to follow traditional color scheme for the legion.

I should have my contemptor up soon. The more I paint these guys the more I fall in love with them. I hate that they are drawing me away from my death guard.

If anyone has any suggestions as to what I should add to the SoH army let me know. I'm looking for cool models to paint that can be integrated into a fast paced/drop assault list.

I've finally got some updates! I'll start with some DG updates. Here is my raptor. She's been stripped and repainted. I'm almost done cutting back in with white and will be ready for my washes.

I've finally gotten my spartan done. I will probably go back and weather the tracks but that a project for another day and the rest of my legion.

Progress on my Sons has been fairly slow with having limited hobby time, trying to finish what I have for DG and whats next. Here is a wip shot of the 'temptor.

And finally, this is the start of a birthday gift for a friend! The color is supposed to be the color FW uses for their IH, but I found it doesn't photograph all that well. I plan on touching up the recesses with an oil wash, doing the detail in silver and brass, and putting a little orange/red flare in their for the lights/lenses/etc. What do you all think? Let me know if you have any suggestions. Especially for the Auxilla as I want it to look amaing for my buddy.

That Spartan is beautiful! I really like the SoH, the darker scheme I think fits the menace of the build up just prior to the Heresy, as they only changed colours after Erebus started to corrupt him.

I think your plan sounds really good for the solar Auxilla vehicles, what Paint is it?

Thanks guys!

The SA paint job is done with a base coat of two Vallejo metallics. Then it's layered in washes. First, yellow/black. Then purple. Then green. Then another black/yellow. Finally a black wash. It creates a great in person effect, but the effect is lost in the photos.

A quick little update today. Over the weekend I was able to put together a deredeo and 2 vindicators. I'm loving both kits. Here's the deredeo in progress.

The next order of business is a little odd for my armies, but I've always loved the model and just had to paint it. I still need to wash and add highlights, but he is definitely well on his way.
