Just noticed something on the Updated Phalanx Warder Sheet: Vexillas are +15pts

Can anyone confirm that they might've gone up by +5?

lol I just checked and they're 10 pts on the templar brethren entry across the page

Oooh, 'Arlatax' (or something like that) Battle-automata. I wonder what those are? Perhaps the un-Plague Drones? Or something we haven't seen yet?

No, they're stripped down jump pack Domitar. Plague Drones: The Prequel weren't named at all, so we'll see.

Arlatax are pretty cool actually. Fast attack, cost the same as Domitar with a similar statline, attack at initiative 4 (before cybertheurgy or legio cybernetica potential initiative bonuses) with S9 AP2 shredding power claws with inbuilt S6 AP4 assault 3 cannons, PLUS a plasma blaster that's probably shoulder mounted.

I think Scoria's special test-bed pet maybe-a-daemon-engine Arlatax can get up to I6 with his own unique cybertheurgy power. It's a mean trick.

Oh, they have an option for an "Arc Scourge" lash that's S User AP2 Rampage, Armourbane, Concussion as well. Replaces the S9 shredding claws.

ಠ_ಠ

...

I...I can live with this...its just 5pts at the very least...

...But still.

What the hell?

I'm pretty sure that all units with Boarding shields as standard equipment pay 15pts for the vexilla rather than 10

I think that's actually true, regular Breachers pay 15 pts don't they? Did they actually change Phalanx Warders Vexillas then or was it always 15?

Checked my LA:ICL

Its 15.

I just never noticed LOL

WOOOOOOOOOOOOOOW

Any pics of the WE with the new color scheme? Does the book explain it?

On this pic is a little text to the mid heresy paintsheme:

During the Book 6 Seminar there was also a red Red Butcher shown.

Makes me feel realy good about the color choices on my Praetor cool.png

Is the Red Butcher not actually in the book then? Or are you just not showing I again because we've seen it already? :)

The Red Butcher is in the book. Poor guy. He was actually a loyalist but after they really lose it, it doesn't really make a difference anymore biggrin.png

Ho ho ho, glorious. More flesh for the Dark Gods.

I like the 'new' scheme, insofar as it's basically a heavy application of blood/red to the shoulder pads. You can see a vague, faded blue under the red. Shouldn't be hard to adapt.

Right, finally woken up and have been taking a couple of snaps of pieces of art from the new book (I really don't like posting pics of rules - I did one or two over the weekend but that's really it). There's a few here, so I've wrapped them in Spoiler tags so you don't get overwhelmed.

One thing I remembered from the New Model seminar, and I think some people have been wanting / asking about:

No - there will not be Blackshield kits, but there will be a Blackshield transfer sheet.

Silent War Seminar:

(Sorry, this is a difficult seminar to write up - a lot of it is random discussion from Laurie, Jim and Chris)

Silent War is a reference to the behind-the-scenes battles occurring during the Horus Heresy period, and not the main battles that took place. Laurie Goulding describes it as the efforts that do not make it into the History books of the time, and are much more to do with subterfuge and misdirection rather than direct confrontation. The name 'Silent War' came from John French during a Black Library meeting a couple of years ago, where all the authors were discussing the various underhand plot points that were going to be happening and having a 'we need to give this a name' discussion. In essence, it's the battles that are not talked about, hence Silent.

From the Imperium's standpoint the major participant in the Silent War is Malcador the Siglette. During the Heresy the Emperor is taking the lead in repelling the Daemons in the Webway underneath the Imperial Palace, and Rogal Dorn is marshalling the defences of Terra and the Sol System, and Malcador is left to do a number of things:

  • Run the Imperium in the Emperors stead and with his full authority. The Emperor has effectively given Malcador carte blanche to handle the day-to-day running of the Imperium, and as such can effectively rubber-stamp resources and decisions that might otherwise raise eyebrows (such as procuring Astartes to form a Chapter outside of the control of a Primarch, which in theory could be considered Heresy in itself).
  • Co-ordinating the defences of both the known war, headed up by Dorn, and the unseen war waged by the Emperor, whilst also mediating the other forces also making plans for defence (such as the Custodes and their blood games, and the Sisters of Silence), whilst also trying to both predict unusual / unseen actions from the Traitor legions and making plans to eliminate the Traitors directly (i.e. the Assassin temples, the Knights Errant)

Alongside all the elements of the Silent War, Malcador is trying to preserve the essence of humanity in the Imperium and trying to enact a vision of humanity once the Great Crusade has been completed and the Imperium has become it's peak. The Heresy in itself isn't about the falling of planets of the destruction of systems, but more about the destruction of the dream of what mankind could be and the realisation that perhaps this will now never happen. Laurie describes Malcador as still having these plans and desires, and is focussing on 'if we can get through this Heresy, we can re-build this and carry on' without fully realising that actually there's no rebuilding from this, and the Imperium has been destroyed regardless of whoever actually wins the Heresy. As the Heresy series continues Malcador will start to see this, that there's little chance of recovering the dream of mankind from events of the Heresy, and that all of his planning and stratagems for the future are actually becoming increasingly pointless.

Random tidbit from James Swallow - Flight of the Eisenstein was originally meant to be titled 'Unbroken', referring to Garro and the fact that he still has this sense of duty to the Imperium despite the fact his Primarch and the majority of his Legion have turned traitor. He was against it being called Flight, as the actual Eisenstein section of the story appears in the last third of the novel, and didn't want people to be disappointed that this was only a portion of the story.

Originally James Swallow didn't have plans to expand Garro past the Flight of the Eisenstein, and had purposefully left the character for any of the other BL authors to pick up and run with. It was only when there were repeated requests to pick up the Garro character from the public that the decision was made to branch his story out, but there was no space in the BL schedule for a full Garro novel. With James having previously done radio based stories and audio novels, this was seen to be a potential lunched for the audio section of Black Library, who wanted to branch out into this area and had the resources to pull this off.

Now James has actually mapped out the full arc of Garro, including how he's resolved at the ends of the Heresy, and has started to plant the seeds of this throughout the upcoming Garro novels.

Next Garro novel potentially called 'Weapon of Fate', and details with the dissatisfaction of Garro being a Knight Errant, and coming to his own conclusion of what Garro's duty is.

Oooh, 'Arlatax' (or something like that) Battle-automata. I wonder what those are? Perhaps the un-Plague Drones? Or something we haven't seen yet?

Oh all of the dibs.

I want a squad of three Arlatax - 2 normal and one with the power scourge (c'mon mechadendrite whip!!!!).

Get those dudes plus a Domitar and some of those pre-blight drones and paint them in Malinax/Scoria colors.

For those wanting to know about the campaigns that are in the book:

Upon the Anvil of War:

The Salamanders send the cruiser 'Ebon Drake' back to Isstvan to search for their fallen Primarch, under the command of Xiaphas Jurr. Upon reaching Isstvan V they do not find Vulkan, but instead find the sarcophagus of Cassian Dracos under the surface of the world, in which Dracos is still alive. Bringing Dracos back to the Ebon Drake, Dracos becomes the de-facto commander of the ship, and rather than return directly to Nocturne instead commanded that they make their way to the Forge World of Mezoa.

Meanwhile Autilon Skorr of the Alpha Legion has been tasked with the conquest of the Forge World Mezoa. Nark Dredger, commander of the Iron Warriors 114th Grand Battalion, and under the command of Skorr, begins a ground assault on the forces of Mezoa.

The Xana Incursion:

The Forge World of Xana is a key Forge World within the Galaxy, and imperative to both sides of the war effort. Both the Loyalists and Traitors bring offers to Xana for their fealty, with Xana ultimately deciding to side with Horus based on Independence from the Imperium and Mars (provided they offer the necessary weapons and machines to prosecute the war), and decide to give the Traitors three Ordinates Minoris Ulator to seal their agreement. During the handover of these weapons to the Warmasters emissary, a small fleet of Loyalist ships arrive in system to prevent this handover from taking place, and to bring Xana back into the Imperial fold.

Eye of the Storm:

Garro and Rubio try to recruit additional forces to the Imperium; the Dark Brotherhood, lead by an astartes known as the Nemean. Alongside the Blackshields of the Dark Brotherhood, a contingent of White Scars and Blood Angels are also found, with Garro determined to bring news of the Heresy to all the leaders and bring them back to fight for the Imperium. This meeting is ambushed by the Alpha Legion.

Tooth and Claw:

Auto Mor, Iron Father of Clan Morragul and commander of the Red Talon, leads a small fleet of loyalist forces in hampering Horus' expansion into the Imperium. More tactics are seen as extreme, and completely outside of the structure of the Council of Terra or the more formal gathering of the Shattered Legions under Meduson, and relies on extreme strategies to ensure success. The include  the destruction of planets and systems declared for the Warmaster, and tacking Traitor forces at their weakest (when they have just finished a campaign of conquest). During these actions it becomes clear to Mor that the World Eaters were amassing a large force and supplying large numbers of materials from their fiefdoms, so Mor joins the attempt to disrupt the World Eaters hold of Bodt. However, Mor has a more singular motive that to disrupt the Traitors supply line, and within the city of Tredecimmia there lies an item  that Mor will obtain at all costs.

The Scouring of the Nostramo Sector:

Patchy reports are received in the sundering of the Night Lords within their home sector of Nostramo, and of Astartes calling themselves the Ashen Claws who are seemingly taking the Night Lords to task.

Oooh, 'Arlatax' (or something like that) Battle-automata. I wonder what those are? Perhaps the un-Plague Drones? Or something we haven't seen yet?
