I Shall Wear Midnight: Loddfafnir113's VIIIth Legion

+++ Veteran Legionary Jhetek +++

Vrakash Tactical Claw

3rd Cohort, 52nd Company

Apothecarion Notes: Possible unstable mental condition, manifests in compulsion to dismember enemies even after they have been neutralised or are already dead. Sergeant Vrakash has been unhelpful in aiding us with our diagnosis, referring to Jhetek's tendencies as simply "a desire to be thorough".

Note: Non standard heavy bolter attachment for use in close quarter combat.

Small update, now that the antics of February are over (including my birthday, the wifes birthday, a university assignment and everything else life throws up). Rest of the squad are nearly done but I got into the swing of things with this chap and couldn't stop till I was done. First time I've done blood, I started off with a minimal amount but a brush slip or two later and we have a heavy weapon legionnaire the World Eaters would be proud of. Think this is the best Legion symbol I've done though so glad that's improving. As always, C&C is welcome.

Thank ye all kindly! I'd love to see people give it a go, I'm still experimenting with it at the moment so I'd be interested to see other peoples variations on it. For Jhetek and the remaining four members of the squad I used druchii violet as a recess wash instead of nuln oil. It darkened it down about the same but reinforced the all over wash in some areas, giving them much more of a purpley sheen.

Got him finished last night, bringing the completed squad total to 7. Next post will be the last three and the completed squad Vrakash.

Thanks for the kind words people! The more I look at Vrakash's pistol the less happy I am with the yellow/red gradient on it, may just go for a solid colour next time. What are peoples thoughts on it?

May I ask what you use for your blood effects? That paint scheme is fantastic btw!

Cheers! The blood is just blood for the blood god, straight from the pot, applied liberally to the afflicted area. I think I probably went a bit over the top with it on these two, but as these are mainly for use with b@c game I thought I'd experiment a bit. I'll probably tone it down a bit for future models.

Edit: Just realised I didn't paint Vrakash's pistol grip. Cant believe I missed that. Will have that sorted for the full squad picture.

I think the pistol actually looks rather good with the 'charging' effect you have got going. Alternatives if you're not quite happy with it might be to have either the orange glow part both ends, or just in the middle. Just some possibilities.

And by the way...gorgeous ;) I envy your metallics laugh.png You've really got the handle on the dark and dangerous look.

Notes: Equipped for varied battlefield roles. Specialists in advanced scouting and ambush.

And that's these chaps finished! I've got to say this has been one of, if not the most enjoyable project I've done, and I can't wait to get started on the Cataphractii and Praetor, and I'm currently saving up for my first FW order. Brakes= Well and truly gone.

I'd like t say thank you to all the frater who have liked a post, passed a comment or offered a word of encouragement on this. This community is awesome and your support has really helped me keep on track and added to the fun of doing it.

Ave Dominus Nox!

Edit: Increased picture size.

Hrnnng... these are so good! The way the black contrasts against the midnight blue, the lightning patterns, the way they convey that sinister feeling, it's all so impressive!

As someone who thoroughly enjoys the Night Lords fluff I must commend you; but as a Dark Angels player I must swear Vengeance!furious.gif (I'll be in my drop pod...)

Seriously though amazing job!

++ Transcript of audio log, Osiran, Sergeant, eighth legion, traitor action 'Thramas Crusade' ++

"Take the heads of the other captives, but leave this one alive. Put his eyes out when we're finished. We'll establish a link to the planetary communications system, he can relay his final sight to the other cities. Our presence on this world has gone unnoticed so far, but we my brothers, have the honour of changing that."

Cataphractii sergeant is done. These guys are hands down some of my favourite models that FW/GW has done, I think they're absolutely stunning and there will definitely be another squad (or two) at some point in the future. Sadly I messed up and in my eagerness to get them built didn't use the specific sergeant torso front, but thankfully the grenade harness gives it away.

Thanks for the kind words again folks!
