Thank you Volgon!

I'd like to think that my various banners are getting a bit better over time. I think I might take some watercolor or drawing classes at some point to see if my banners can improve even more. I took some back in the 2000s and they helped quite a bit.

My various hobbying projects are plodding along. Here are some WiP photos...

Blood Wolves Chaos Predators FierFracture and Ragnarok

Spoiler

I've pledged a pair of Preds for the Call to Arms as my first pledge.

Here you can see them getting a black basecoat--the primer job messed up so I had to re-apply most of the black.

Then they got a Leadbelcher drybrush.

Next they got some acrylic rust-colored washes

And then rust oil washes were applied to the Preds and gubbins

I accidentally spilled Burnt Sienna oil wash on my skulls so I embraced the Bob Ross "happy accident" and applied the wash all over the skulls

I'll go back and add the standard Gryphon Sepia acrylic wash over these skulls later.

Upgrading Random Chaos Infantry

Spoiler

To give myself something to do while waiting for washes to dry, I began the process of converting some of my Chaos infantry from my various armies from red to desert bases.

Desertification doesn't just happen in the Sahara

image.thumb.jpeg.143fbaeebbece06b7ca07cc680a5571a.jpeg

In addition to desertification, Warpborn Possessed Marine Vhol Atresh got a new head, left arm, left leg robot part, and back banner

image.thumb.jpeg.b989a5b6fba188c332972af33c7bdfa9.jpeg

Poor Vhol Atresh somehow lost his  arm in a game last year...so he got a new arm and then I decided to give him the other upgrades.

The old Vhol Atresh

And my Blood Wolves Rhinos still need some love

Spoiler

I'll be adding these Space Wolf bitz to the Rhinos

image.thumb.jpeg.87b8d4e59681ae6529e37e1f6419cb90.jpeg

And since bone colors are not as prevalent in the Blood Wolves, I changed some of the Rhinos' bone panels to black panels.

image.thumb.jpeg.54b77c7174e821810a1ab76f752d3947.jpeg

The Rhinos on the left and right, Wrath and Tentaculus, respectively were permanently borrowed by my Blood Wolves army from my Death Guard army the Dooooomfevers. And the Dooooomfevers' color scheme is red and bone. So out with the bone and in with the black.

I hope you enjoyed the pics. This weekend I hope to use an airbrush for the first time to apply chipping solution and then a Mephiston Red acrylic basecoat to the Predators. I bought a very post-Apocalypse looking 3M respirator with various filters last weekend. For the sake of my kitties, I'll be airbrushing outside so I won't need a filter box.

The Blood Wolves, "We mastered sailing the seas of Fenris"

  • 2 weeks later...
Posted (edited)

Hello everyone, hobbying was a bit delayed last week due to me getting sick and a family member going to the hospital. The family member is back home now and recovering.

But over the last 2 weeks I was able to get some more progress done on my 2 Blood Wolves Predators and I also started making some upgrades to my Nurgle Doomfevers warband's Helbrute. Here are some photos and comments.

Spoiler

What with everything that's been going on in my life I didn't have the energy to figure out how to use an airbrush. So now 'll use an airbrush for the first time at the end of the summer when I paint up my Blood Wolves Land Raider, Ygdrassil. So I used my standard brush-based chipping technique and I have now basecoated and chipped most of the red on both Predators. I still have to add red and chipcoat Ragnarok's turret--I'll do that later today before work.

In the background you can see some of the units I'll be taking to the big Tacoma tournament later this month. I'm still pondering my list though, so nothing is set in stone.

Once I've chipcoated the one turret red and the Imperial Fist victim yellow, the next step is to add oil washes for shading.

Spoiler

I've been pondering my recent games with the Blood Wolves, especially the league games and 2 tournaments I went to back in the spring. It seems to me that I have no issues dealing with heavy infantry and the meta really does not include many horde armies full of light infantry. What I struggle with is vehicle- and monster-heavy lists, which are common these days.

So I got to thinking, what are some ways I can increase my ability to deal with big threats? My July Tacoma list pretty much only has 4 units that can deal with tanks and monsters: 2 Predator Annihilators, a Defiler, and a Maulerfiend. I figured I can drop some stuff and work in a lascannon Havoc Squad back into my list. I can deal with their slowness by using Renegade Raiders instead of Creations of Bile. That puts me up to 5 units that can deal with big targets.

I'll also switch over to Renegade Raiders from Creations of Bile. Because, in previous games where I used the Raiders detachments, I've noticed my Legionaries, Chosen, and Termies' powerfists do decently against enemy vehicles that happen to be on objectives.

But how can I add a 6th anti-vehicle/anti-monster unit to the list given what I own? What if I also worked a fairly cheap 130 point Helbrute into my Tacoma list kitted out with either a lascannon and hammer or with a lascannon and fist? He's a fun, casual unit that can improve the AT capacity of the other tank-killing units with his aura. To that end, I got my old Helbrute, Dave, off of the shelf where he has been gathering dust since 9th edition. I then looked through my bitz box and put together a magnetized Helbrute Hammer for him.

I decided to re-christen Dave the Dreadnought as Mjolnir so he better fits into the Blood Wolves theme.  He has had the fierce name of Dave since 2002.

Now Helbrutes are pretty bad these days and pretty much only appropriate for more casual lists. I've only brought once once in 10th edition and it was quickly blown off the board. But in every Tacoma tournament I've been to, I'm usually in the bottom bracket or next-to-bottom bracket. And many of us in these brackets bring casual units. So Mjolnir will feel right at home.

Formerly Dave, now Mjolnir's new arm with Helbrute Hammer

image.thumb.jpeg.7b682df9bd4c8f613729519269c2628b.jpeg

image.thumb.jpeg.0914bcb4521f946b0c876f0b92bffbb0.jpeg

And I'll stick these Wolfy and Khornate gubbins onto Mjolnir.

image.thumb.jpeg.c3cd4fa028f39c12dca32d9877c00a22.jpeg

Which means my Blood Wolves army has pretty much officially stolen Dave/Mjolnir from my Nurgle Doooomfevers CSM army.

At some point before the end of the decade I'll upgrade my Doooomfevers Nurgle CSM/Death Guard warband. They are currently all on old 25 mm bases. And then I'll replace Dave with a Defiler or a new Helbrute.

For funsies, Harry the Helbrute from my Night Lords warband tries out Mjolnir's arm

image.thumb.jpeg.db16f52d8dce1ca2147478b3e6677e5d.jpeg

And Blood Golem wanted to try out the new arm too

image.thumb.jpeg.b6fc86bcd2372009cf605fdf7711136b.jpeg

Both of Mjolnir's arms are magnetized. I'm not sure whether to run him as a hammer/lascannon Helbrute or a hammer/fist Helbrute. But I already have 12 or so lascannons in the list. So I'm leaning towards the hammer/fist variant for the extra 2 hammer attacks should Mjolnir actually live long enough to get into melee. On the other hand, no pun intended, I've always liked the classic look of a dreadnought with one melee weapon and 1 shooty weapon.

Enjoy the photos! I hope I'm able to get these projects completed in time for the big Tacoma Open which takes place on July 18th through the 20th.

Blood Wolves, "When the Valkyries come calling and we shall answer the call."

Sorry to hear about your setbacks. and hopefully your family member is on the mend.

Your preds are looking good - that's a clever way of doing the havoc launchers.  What do you use for the pod?  If you mentioned, I missed it.

Your new hellbrute conversion is a bit ridiculous from my standpoint, but should fit in fine with the more over-the-top conversion style of your army.

Posted (edited)

Thanks Dr. Ruminahui! Sadly, I am not sure where the havoc Launcher missile pod is from. I obtained the blitz from Mindtake Miniatures’ (in Vancouver, Washington) wonderful blitz box last year. I suspect it is from a loyalist Terminator Cyclone Missile Launcher. But I’m not sure.

I’m OK with ridiculous. After all, my favorite model from my Night Lords army is good old nunchaku-wielding Ninja Joe.

Hello everyone,

Just a brief update as I am furiously getting my Blood Wolves ready for this weekend's big Tacoma Open.

Here are a couple of WiP shots on FierFracture, a Chaos Predator and one of my Call To Arms pledge models

FierFracture

Imperial Fist Captive Captain Alaric Ashara

If I ever go up against an Imperial Fists player, I will suggest the following house rule: if the Imperial Fist forces assault and destroy FierFracture in melee, then the Loyalists rescue Captain Eshara. And the Imperial Fist player immediately maxes out all of their primary points and all units no longer need to take battle shock tests for the rest of the game. That will make for a fun mini mission.

And here is my army list for Tacoma.

Blood for the Blood God!

The Blood Wolves, Khornate Chaos Space Marine Warband

Being a Khornate Chaos Space Marine Battalion featuring Chosen, daemon engines, and various and sundry other Horrors of the Warp

ORIGINS
The Blood Wolves are a warband of Khorne-worshipping Chaos Space Marines. They were once Space Wolves. Then one fateful day they fell from the Emperor's Grace and followed Wolf Lord Svane Vulfbad when he and his Great Company mutinied.  Svane and his followers proclaimed themselves to Khorne; stole a small fleet of Battle Barges, Cobras, and Strike Cruisers; and fled to the Cliedes System.
It was in the Cliedes System that the Loyalist lackey Harald Deathwolf found and fought the Blood Wolves. But Svane and his Heretic Astartes had been blessed by the Blood God and they managed to escape into the Warp. Since that day they have wandered the verse. The Blood Wolves seek nothing more than to shed blood in His name.

CHARACTERS

Svane Vulfbad, Chaos Lord, daemon hammer, plasma pistol=90
-Special Rule: Lord of Chaos--once per game Lord Svane can increase his melee AP, STR, DMG, and ATT by 1 for 1 melee phase.
-Special Rule: Chance for Glory--once per round Lord Vulfbad can allow his unit to use a strat for free, even if that strat has already been used this phase.
-Despot's Claim Enhancement: During my command phase roll a dice. On a 5+ I get a free CP (4+ if I'm in the enemy DZ)
Svane Vulfbad was a young pup on Fenris when he was stalked one evening by a ferocious Ice Troll. He was able to use the light of Fenris' moon, Valdrmani, to escape. Since then Svane had felt a close connection to moons and to their symbolism and power.
Svane was born into the Fire Breather tribe and named to honor the tribe's leader Sven Bloodhowl. The young Svane proved particularly adept at hunting and tracking. One night, under a crescent moon, Svane battled a giant Remhoraz on Fenris' ice fields. Both Svane and the Remhoraz fell during this duel. But the lucky Fenrisian was selected by a Chooser of the Slain. He then survived tests and ordeals too numerous to count. Eventually Svane succeeded and became a Space Wolves Neophyte serving in a Blood Claw Pack.
Svane served honorably for many centuries in the ranks of Blood Claws, Grey Hunters, and Wolf Guard. He performed hundreds of heroic deeds and the Skalds told countless sagas about Vulfbane. He eventually became leader of the Blood Wolves Great Company.
But one night while leading his company on campaign beneath a full moon in the Ghoul Stars, Svane Vulfbad heard the call. From its mighty Throne of Skulls Khorne sensed a kindred spirit and it reached out to Svane Vulfbad. Boundless rage filled Svane's soul. He became aware of the hypocrisy at the Empire's core. When Vulfbad awoke from his trance he uttered these words, "I murdered thousands for the Emperor and He gave me nothing except His damning silence. Now His lapdogs yap for every life I take, while the gods promise me the galaxy."
Svane and his entire great company immediately declared themselves for Chaos and rebelled. A cadre of loyalist Space Wolves pursued them. But, after a handful of running skirmishes, Svane and his Blood Wolves escaped into the Warp.

☆ Wulfrik the Wanderer, Counts-As Fabius Bile and, Genesplice, Surgeon Acolyte; Xyclos Needler, Chirurgeon, Rod of Torment, Surgeon Acolyte's Tools=85
-Special Rule: Enhanced Warriors--Wulfrik's unit is biologically buffed with +1 T and +1 Str.
-Special Rule: Surgeon Acolyte--Once per turn, the unit can can change an allocated attack to 0.
-Special Rule: Chirurgeon--once per game, on a 2+ Wulfrik has a chance to immediately come back wuth full wounds after being killed.
The Spyder asked the Wanderer why he cast the runes. The Wanderer responded, "Why do I cast the runes? You might as well ask why does a Fenrisian honor her ancestors? Why does Thunder Mountain scrape the grey skies? Why does the Ice Troll stalk its prey? Foolish Spyder, ask no more questions."
And thus ended the Alliance between Blood Wolves Runespeaker Wulfrik the Wanderer and the Clone Lord Fabius Bile. Wulfrik had for decades served in Fabius Bile's Consortium. The Consortium was a sort of research space and university where Bile gathered the best Chaos Apothecaries. Tables and Wulfrik had collaborated for decades, teaching each other their differing trades. But eventually the Wanderer grew tired of the Spyder's aspersions on his runecraft. The Spyder believed chemicals were the key to gene splicing. The Runespeaker held faith in runes' ability to influence genes.
And so Wulfrik the Wanderer took his cache of rune-enhanced geneseed and returned to wandering the verse.
Millenia earlier, Wulfrik was a young lad on Fenris. His tribe, the Ice Minotaurs, witnessed his skills at runecasting. He was apprenticed to the tribe's shaman, Urda Runespeaker, and began walking the bonereader's path. Years later, the bones told Urda and Wulfrik that the village should escape to the sea. But the Ice Minotaurs ignored the Runecasters' warnings. The next day Glacial Nomad Raiders treacherously attacked the village. Wulfrik's parents and most of his family were captured by the Glacial Nomads. Wulfrik and his entire family refused the offer from the Glacial Nomad chieftain, Bjorn One Eye, to join their tribe. Bjorn had Wulfrik's family slaughtered. After a harrowing adventure with the aid of chalk, strong twine, bone runes, and a friendly wolf orphan named Lark, Wulfrik managed to escape the clutches of the Glacial Nomads.
And thus did Wulfrik become the Wanderer. He and Lark left on a soul-searching walkabout. For twenty years they wandered the seas and erstwhile isles of Fenris. They saw volcano fires burning in the great Fire Breather, they panned for gold on Allfather Peak, they worked as sailors in a dozen seas, Wulfrik fell in love with a maiden who soon wasted away from the Grey Fever, they hunted Frost Mastadons upon the Silver Marches, and they bought goods at the Great Market of Thunder Mountain.
It was in Thunder Mountain that Wulfrik met the famed Runecaster Sindoi of the Thousand Eyes. The Wanderer was tutored by the elderly sage for a year and a day and learned great and terrible runes indeed. Wulfrik even learned how to mold Fenrisians' bodies so they could be stronger, faster, or tougher, but at the cost of a sliver of their soul. Wulfrik then bade Sindoi farewell and continued on his walkabout. As a going-away gift, Sindoi gave Wulfrik a pet Raven. Wulfrik named the Raven Enigma. In turn, Wulfrik told Lark, his wolf companion, to remain with Sindoi as a protector.
One particular misty day, Wulfrik read his death in the runes. He picked up his axe, collected his bones, and went to meet his Doom. He soon came across his nemesis, Bjorn One Eye, who was raiding a nearby village. The two fought for three moonrises. In the end, both lay dead upon the field of battle, their axes buried in each other's throats.
But a Chooser of the Slain found both to be excellent candidates for revivification. Both warriors were returned from Valhalla and began the trials by which one becomes a Space Wolf. Bjorn perished during the trials. But Wulfrik survived. After a brief stint as a Blood Claw, he became a Space Wolf Runepriest Adept. He proved a natural and quickly became a Rune Priest in his own right. But his superiors began questioning Wulfrik's ways. It was whispered that Wulfrik practiced Heresy and foul magicks with his runes as he attempted to enhance his fellow battle brothers in ways not allowed by the Codex Astartes. Luckily Wulfrik's runes warned him of his chapter's suspicions. He and Enigma fled through a portal opened by his runecasting.
And so Wulfrik wandered again. He managed to keep one step ahead of the Inquisition. Until one day the Wanderer met the Spyder. The Spyder had heard of the peripatetic former Space Wolf who could cast runes in a way that augmented one's body. And, of course, the Wanderer had heard of the Spyder and his penchant for genetic artistry. The Wanderer and the Spyder worked together on and off for decades before going their separate ways.
And so the Wanderer wandered again for centuries. Eventually he met Svane Vulfbad and his band of rebel Fenrisians. Wulfrik found in Svane a kindred spirit. The two took each other's measure and liked what they saw. While Wulfrik did not worship Khorne All Father, he was a talented Runecaster and had no love for the Emperor. Svane offered protection and a fully stocked biological laboratory for the Wanderer's research. So Wulfrik joined the Blood Wolves as a member of Svane's retinue and as the Blood Wolves' Runecaster and Biologist.
Wulfrik's runecasting often analyzes themes about which the Blood Wolves are curious: the location of geneseed caches, whether a particular alliance will prove fruitful, how to best please Khorne Allfather, and anything else which presents an obstacle to the Blood Wolves.

BATTLE LINE
Aspiring Champion Gormenghast's BloodTongue, 5 Legionaries, 5 close combat weapons, 5 bolt pistols, 2 chainswords, 2 heavy melee weapons, lascannon, icon=90
Aspiring Champion Gorath's Bloodflowers, 5 Legionaries, 5 close combat weapons, 5 bolt pistols, 2 chainswords, 2 heavy melee weapons, lascannon, icon=90
-Special Rule: Veterans of the Long War--Legionaries re-roll wound rolls of 1 in melee. If the enemy is on an objective, Legionaries can re-roll all wound rolls in melee.
-Icon: Unit can re-roll Dark Pact tests
Aspiring Champion Gormenghast is a philosopher warrior, a rarity among Khorne worshippers. As a Space Wolf he read widely, devouring the works of Aquinas, Logar, and Aristotle, among others.
But one fateful day on an Imperial ecclesiarchy world he stumbled across one of the Eight Books of Khorne. Not knowing the tome was a Chaos artifact he took it. Back on the Strike Cruiser he began reading the book. Its contents revealed a great deal to the loyalist marine. He learned the elements of the perfect murder, he learned the inner peace brought about by intense anger, and he learned the eight pillars of the Khorne faith. Gormenghast remained loyal to the All Father but the seeds of doubt were sown.
When Svane Vulfbad began speaking of the Emperor's hypocrisy, Gormenghast understood what his Lord meant more than most Blood Wolves. Gormenghast eagerly advocated for rebelling and, as a result, after the revolt, Svane promoted the philosopher warrior to Squad Champion in charge of Squad Bloodtongue.
Aspiring Champion Gorath is an artist. He unlocks the potential of the Crimson within us all as he paints great canvases using only differing shades and types of Blood. His art tells the story of death not life. Gorath rejects the use of mere paint as gauche.
Svane awarded Gorath command of the Bloodflowers out of nostalgia. The two were comrades in the same Bloodclaws pack centuries ago. And while Bloodflowers is as effective as any Aspiring Champion, Svane believes Gorath's affectations as an artist are inhibiting his ability to develop as a leader.

The Baba Yagas, 10 Cultists, 10 Cultist Firearms, 10 Brutal Assault Weapons=50
-Special Rule: For the Dark Gods--during their command phase The Baba Yagas can "sticky" an objective they control.
The 88th Blood Pact are troopers on loan to The Blood Wolves from the infamous Blood Pact Traitor Guard Regiment. Urlock Gaur leads the Blood Pact and each Blood Pacter swears fealt to Gaur in an unholy bloodletting ritual. Urlock Gaur and Svane Vulfbad have exchanged small detachments. The Blood Pact gains the melee brutality of the Blood Wolves' Legionaries and the Blood Wolves gain the massed infantry and tanks of the Blood Pact.
The Squad's Aspiring Champion, Bloodbitch, comes from a Slavic world. She has named her squad "The Baba Yagas,"  after an old Slavic wives' tale. The Baba Yagas sometimes serve as scouts for the Blood Wolves.
Blood Bitch was imprisoned on a Chaos Penal World working the forges for the Dark Mechanicum. Her life was a living hell, but she coped by organizing a "fight club." Then one day Urlock Gaur's Blood Pact forces raided the Penal world for supplies and manpower. Blood Bitch found herself freed. What's more, Urlock Gaur was impressed at how she had trained an entire cadre of prisoners in hand-to-hand melee. After a brief blood-letting ritual in which she impaled her hand on Urlovk Gaur's armor's spikes, she was promoted to Chieftain of a squad in the 88th Blood Pact Regiment. A role at which she has excelled. Blood for the Blood God indeed!

TRANSPORTS
Tentaculus, Chaos Rhino, armored tracks, Havoc Launcher, combi-weapon=75
Wrath, Chaos Rhino, armored tracks, Havoc Launcher, combi-weapon=75
-Special Rule: Self Repair--at the start of my command phase, repair 1 wound.
These ancient transports manuever the Blood Wolves around the battlefield. They deliver their deadly cargo and then provide fire support with bolter rounds and Havoc missiles. But since their crew worship Khorne, these vehicles are just as likely to careen into the foe, skewering them upon one of many spikes attached to the hull.

OTHER DATASHEETS
Ghost Wolves, 3 Chaos Bikers, powerfist, 2 chainswords, 2 flamers, 3 combi-bolters, icon=70
● Special Rule: Rapid Assault--+1 strength on the charge
● Icon: Unit can re-roll Dark Pact tests
The Ghost Wolves travel the fury road. They are enigmatic figures blessed by Khorne to wander the paths of the Immaterium as daemonic bikers from hell.
They suddenly appear in twisting clouds of orange and red smoke to fight alongside Chaos Marine warbands or Chaos Traitor Guard Regiments. Then, just as quickly, they vanish in roiling clouds of hellish smoke. Returned to the Warp from whence they came.
● Note: it is best to sing Suicide's 1977 song Ghost Rider when deploying or moving this unit.

The Valkyries, 5 Chaos Raptors of Khorne, power fist, 4 Astartes Chainswords, 5 bolt pistols=90
-Special Rule: Fearsome--any enemy units within 6" that take a leadership or battle shock test do so at -1.
-Special Rule: Terrifying Assault--at the start of the fight phase, all enemy units in engagement range must take a battle shock test.
Freya was once Freya the Grey, chief huntress of the Ice Ravens clan on Fenris. Then one day she fell, mortally wounded in combat with a Tundra Mammoth. She briefly entered Valhalla and was gloriously chosen to ride the skies as a Valkyrie. But then suddenly she was ripped from Asgard and returned to the mortal realms. A Chooser of the Slain had revived her so that she could join the ranks of the Space Wolves.
She served dutifully as a Space Wolf for centuries. First as a Blood Claw, then as a Grey Hunter, and finally as a member of a Wolf Lord Retinue serving Svane Vulfbad But she still harbored hostility. She was supposed to be a Valkyrie. Soaring high above the Heavens on her own wings. Not here among mere mortals.
Then one day Svane Vulfbad approached her with an offer. If she would aid him in his revolt and if she would lend her marksmanship skills to the warband for 888 days, then he would give her wings and allow her to form her own band of Raptors, called the Valkyries. For Freya this was the next best thing to rejoining the halls of Valhalla. She agreed to Svane's offer. She aided the revolt and counted the hours until she, once more, flies the skies as a Raptor. And on the 888th day Svane was true to his word. Through his faith in Khorne Allfather he transformed Freya in a Chaos Raptor Aspiring Champion. She now soars the skies upon red jetpack Flames, slaughtering in the Blood God's name.

Blood Golem, Chaos Defiler, Defiler Claws, Defiler Scourge, twin lascannon, battlecannon=190
-Special Rule: Scuttling Walker--During his movement or advance phase Deffy can move over friendly models as if they were not there. Deffy can also move over terrain pieces 4 inches or shorter as if they were not there.
-Special Rule: Daemonforge--once per fight phase Deffy can use the "Counteroffensive" strat for 0 CP even if I have already used it this phase.
Blood Golem was created by Dark Apostle Red Messiah and Warpsmith Revna Crowsoul from an ancient recipe with three ingredients: the Blood of a daemon, the dust of an enemy, and the Butcher's Nails from a willing Bezerker sacrifice. Blood Golem was created to act as a bodyguard for the leaders of the Blood Wolves.
Unfortunately, or perhaps fortunately, Blood Golem was not a good bodyguard. He had a penchant for running pell nell towards the foe to crush them with his claws. He would often leave the Chaos Lord or Daemon Prince that he was supposed to be guarding far behind in his dust. As such, Blood Golem was banished from the command retinue cadre and relegated to the Blood Wolves' daemon engine assault cadre. Now he competes with Blood Slaughterers, Maulerfiends, and other daemon engines in a competition to see who can rack up the most kills.

Wirewolf, Chaos Maulerfiend, Maulerfiend Fists, Lasher Tendrils=130
-Special Rule: Siege Crawler--Wirewolf ignores all negative modifiers to movement, advances, and charges
"Talix trees, tall and slender, grew along the outsides of the avenue. At least two had been decapitated and remade into gibbets for the wirewolves. There was no point trying to avoid them. Landerson walked on, trying not to look up at the skeletal mannequins hanging limply from the axl-trees on their metal strings. They creaked, swinging slightly in the breeze."
-Excerpt from Traitor General, by Dan Abnett

FierFracture, Chaos Predator Annihilator, Predator Twin Lascannon, 2 lascannons, armored tracks, Havoc Launcher, combi-weapon=130
Ragnarok, Chaos Predator Annihilator, Predator Twin Lascannon, 2 lascannons, armored tracks, Havoc Launcher, combi-weapon=130
-Special Rule: Annihilator--The main gun can re-roll the damage roll against monsters or vehicled
-Special Rule: Twin-Linked--The main gun can re-roll rolls to wound
FierFracture was once a venerated Imperial Fists battle tank. But one moonlit night the Blood Wolves caught the VII Legion Loyalists unawares in an ambush on the Planet T'olku. After Svane Vulfbad wounded Imperial Fist Captain Alaric Eshara, the bulk of the Imperial Fists managed to escape due to the Captain's rear guard sacrifice. But much of the Imperial Fists' equipment, including FierFracture, was captured by the Fallen Space Wolves. The Blood Wolves keep Captain Eshara alive and chained to back of the vehicle as a testament to Khorne.
Ragnarok: "Fenrir howls terribly before the doors to Hel. The wolf will break its bonds and run. I know much wisdom, I see deep in the future all the way to Ragnarok, a dark day for the gods.
Brothers will fight and kill each other. Sister's children will defile kinship. It is harsh in the world. Whoredom rife. An axe age, a sword age, shields are riven, a wind age, a wolf age. Before the world goes headlong, no man will have mercy on another."
- excerpt from Voluspa,10th Century Norse poem

□ War Never Changes, 5 Chaos Havocs, powerfist, plasma pistol, 4 lascannons=125
-Special Rule: Stabilization Talons--Havocs ignore all negative modifiers to hit when shooting.
Testimony of Kurgan, lascannon Havoc and veteran of the Horus Heresy, "War. War Never changes. People awoke from the Imperial Dream. Years of consumption lead to shortages of every resource. The entire galaxy unraveled. Peace became a distant memory. It was the year 05 M31. We stood on the brink of total war. I was afraid. For myself, for my wife, for my infant son. Because if my time in the Solar Auxilia taught me one thing it's that war, war never changes."

Aspiring Champion Krassek's Company of Eight, 10 Chosen, 8 bolt pistols, 2 plasma pistols, 6 accursed weapons, 2 pairs of accursed weapons, 2 powerfists, 10 close combat weapons, icon=250
-Special Rule: Chosen Marauders--Chosen can fall back and then shoot and charge
-Special Rule: Chosen Marauders--Chosen can advance and charge
-Icon: Unit can re-roll Dark Pact tests
The Company of Eight are a Squad of Chaos Veterans. They represent the Blood Wolves' best hunters. Each has been hand picked by Krassek and each has at least a score of sagas to tell of their great deeds.
Aspiring Champion Krassek is a hunter's hunter. As a feral tribal warrior on Fenris he could track and kill the deadliest of native beasts, from the great Fenrisian Wolf to the Brutal Frost Mammoths. Krassek would patiently stalk his prey through ice tundra and snow-swept mountain. And then he would finally strike with unmatched zeal.
When his tribal chief told Krassek he must begin the ordeals to become an Adeptes he was sad. He knew he would miss the hunt. But he also knew he had a duty to his tribe and to the All-Father.
And so Krassek underwent the trials and eventually became a Space Wolf. As a Space Wolf he joined a particularly devout warrior cult. Spo the eventual transition from Space Wolf to Blood Wolf was not difficult for him.
He eventually surrounded himself with others who were big game hunters. On and off the battlefield, they specialize in stalking, killing, and making totems of their prey. And as a squad leader he is sometimes allowed a small vessel and navigator and released from warband duties for a year and a day. During these sabbaticals he takes up the hunt once more. He travels to nearby Death Worlds and stalks the most vicious creatures he can find.

The Stormcrows, 5 Chaos Terminators, heavy flamer, 3 combi-bolters, chainfist, 3 powerfists, pair of accursed weapons=180
-Special Rule: Despoilers--If the Stormcrows successfully Dark Pacted this phase then they get to re-roll to hit rolls.
The Stormcrows are veteran Chaos Marines equipped with rare tactical dreadnought armor. They spearhead assaults and serve as bodyguards to Svane's most trusted lieutenants.
The Stormcrows also have started a "Crow Cult" within the Blood Wolves. The members of the Crow Cult collect and worship birds of the Corvidae family. They seek to embody the spirit of the crow and other Corvidae--fierceness, independence, wisdom, and feistiness--and, in so doing, attain a state of being that is closer to Khorne. Crows also harken back to Odin Allfather and his two Crow companions, Hugin and Munin. And so crows hold a special place for many clans on Fenris.
Many other members of the Blood Wolves warband are not too sure about this new cult. They don't really see a connection between Corvidae and Khorne. But the Crow Cult are not particularly zealous in recruitment and, moreover, its members have somehow become better warriors as a result of their cult membership. So the rest of the warband's members don't mind the cult.
Snow Rook is the squad's Aspiring Champion. Unlike the other squad champions, Snow Rook was elected leader by the squad members. The Stormcrows see Snow Rook as a wise and bloody father figure. He is not sure how he feels about this.

Mjolnir, Chaos Helbrute, twin lascannon, Helbrute Hammer=130
-Special Rule: Mjolnir grants friendly Heretics Astartes units within 6 inches the ability to simultaneously benefit from both Dark Pacts buffs.
Punished for some long-forgotten crime, Mjolnir suffers for eternity inside his adamantium sarcophagi.

Points=1,990; total number of models=58 (48 infantry, 7 vehicles, 3 bikes)

It's a vaguely casual list, sort of a jack of all trades with 5ish melee units, 3ish ranged units, and 7ish general utility/secondaries/objective-scoring units. But it has proven to be a fun list in test games. Every year I hang out on the bottom brackets of this event and have a great time! I think this year will be just as fun.

After this weekend I'll post photos and comments of:

-A test Tacoma game I played last weekend against a Knights army

-8 Tacoma games

-2 completed Preds...they should be done before Tacoma (knocks on head)

-3 upgraded Chaos Rhinos

-WiP photos of my next project/Call to Arms pledge: Eternal Damnation, a kitbashed Defiler/Dorn attached to the Nostroman 9th Traitor Guard Regiment

Wish me luck in Tacoma!

The Blood Wolves, "Ragnarok is coming."

Looking good! That Predator is looking proper weathered. I'd like to try going that hard on weathering but I've found it so hard these days to spend so much time on a model only to undo a lot of the work that went into it, or worse have it come out worse than I intended! I'll probably try out oils and weathering powders and all that at some point on a different project, maybe something simpler to start so I can practice using those.

Thanks Volgon!

Yes, first time I weathered with chipping fluid and oil washes I also started with something simpler. I used these 3 sheets of plasticard with random gubbins glued on. This method is a lot of work as you note.
