My opponent is painting their army up in the nice green and bronze color scheme you see here. It's going to look awesome when its' done!

Excess siphons points away from the foe

image.thumb.jpeg.c2df84d1f611df5009816cdb8ceded34.jpeg

We played the wonderful asymmetric mission "Tip of the Spear" in which the attacker starts with 0 primary points and the defender starts with 0. Then the attacker can siphon points away from the defender by holding objectives.

In a hilarious turn of events, my opponent began believing that his poor dice rolls were caused by my un-killable Scout Sentinel. He kept trying and failing to blow it up. And then, when he finally did destroy it, his dice started being nicer to him. Maybe my opponent was right after all.

In the end, the forces of Votan won a close 8-point victory. It was a hilarious and fun game and I really enjoy the asymmetric missions.

My MVP: the Scout Sentinel Hound of Chaos for messing with my opponent's head and being a bringer of bad mojo to his dice rolls

Tactical Notes: I tried outflanking a large blob of infantry. This is something I did regularly in previous editions with my Tallarn Imperial Guard army. It worked decently here with my Nostroman Traitor Guard in this game. But outflanking did take the blob away from the main action during the early game. I'll experiment more with this.

Also, I forgot to use the uppy downy sentinel strat and it would have helped with secondaries in this game. Live and learn.

Enjoy the photos!

Nostroman 9th, "Hell's horde."

Hello fellow Chaos worshippers,

Last week I got in a fun game against Salamanders (I'll post photos from the game later in the week). But after the game I staged and took photos of 4 kitbashes I plan on bringing to next month's Merry Slaaneshmas Tournament out in Ocean Shores, Washington. Well, every model in my army will be kitbashed. But these are the 4 larger kitbashes I hope to bring.

Excess, Traitor Artillery Team

image.thumb.jpeg.fd2bec4619d7e131b72f74d14d4ba000.jpeg

image.thumb.jpeg.8f3992fae46714d74339fc63d72f6da3.jpeg

The artillery crew are traitor guard who now use their weapons against their former loyalist comrades. The crew worship Slaanesh and are allied to House Nightfall's pro-daemon faction on the Council of Thirteen. The crew still begrudgingly respect and usually obey Renegade Commander Dnegrah, despite the fact that she is a member of the workers' faction.

Khorne's Ire, Traitor Leman Russ Vanquisher

image.thumb.jpeg.44a92f3a870d8118724210ab3c543652.jpeg

image.thumb.jpeg.e22111bf761e5241a7af664ac8c7a181.jpeg

I never have been a fan of sponsons on Guard armor, so the sponson weaponry is mounted on front instead of side of hull. I didn't have time for this tournament, but before next year's Tacoma Open I'd like to add some upgrades to this tank. The upgrades would include track guards, chipped red stripes, some decals, a new KV-1 style turret like Reaver's, a crew member, and some more stowage to the tank.

Khorne's Ire's currency is flesh and bone
Hell opened up and put on sale.
Gather 'round and haggle
For hard cash, we will lie and deceive,
even our masters don't know
The webs we weave.

     Khorne's Ire doesn't negotiate
Khorne's Ire doesn't capitulate
They will take and you will give
And you must die so that they may live
-Derived from Pink Floyd lyrics

Curze's Revenge, Traitor Rogal Dorn Tank Commander

image.thumb.jpeg.265c9f23627b706e26c7ade7ec497cfa.jpeg

image.thumb.jpeg.fc102c998e5f5f63fdedaec5362d312c.jpeg

image.thumb.jpeg.23b0837dac28737560c8642ce7ea2849.jpeg

This tank also features front-mounted weaponry rather than top-mounted or side-mounted weaponry. I also extended the vehicle's width by 1 centimeter so it looked a bit like its inspiration, the Su-85 or Stug IV from World War II. As those of you who follow my blog know, one of my next projects is to paint up and add a crew and various gubbins inside the tank.

Most Forgeworlds, including those operated by House Nightfall, cannot make the laser Destroyer variant of the Rogal Dorn. The tank's battery-powered giant laser cannon is simply too sophisticated and hi-tech. But one of House Nightfall's regular clients, the Warpborn Chaos Marines, does possess this ability. And the Warpborn occasionally gift a laser Destroyer Rogal Dorn to one of the Nostroman 1st through 9th regiments for mercenary services rendered. Interestingly, the Warpborn and House Nightfall used to be bitter foes, but the appearance of a Tyranid hive fleet a mellenia ago forced both factions to work together.
Curze's Revenge is crewed by a stalwart and bizarre set of Traitors. They are one of three units in Nox Companie with the right to bear the Night Lords symbol. On Parma V their laser cannon took out a Loyalist Knight, thus saving the life of Night Lords 2nd Battalion officer and member of the Council of Thirteen Saris Fleshscape. Lord Saris was leading his Night Lords Terminator Squad on an assault when they were attacked by the knight. But thanks to the crew's quick thinking and marksmanship, Curze's Revenge reduced the knight to a pike of molten slag. The crew keep the Night Lords symbol on a small Chaos shrine inside their tank.
The tank commander is Heronymous the 17th, a former loyalist noble from an Imperium backwater. He lost his inheritance in a game of bacca and was forced to turn to space piracy. There he came across the Nostroman 9th and used his charisma and pedigree to obtain a posting in the Nostroman 9th. His competency saw him advance up the ranks until he found himself commanding a giant laser destroyer Rogal Dorn Command Tank.
The tank's driver is Don Quijote de Zagrini, a disgraced nobleman 7th son who joined the Traitor Guard to keep the Wolf off his back and regain some honor. For some reason, Don Quijote has an extreme dislike of windmills. He smashes them with the Rogal Dorn every chance he gets. While, Tank Commander Heronymous calls the Rogal Dorn by its official title, Don Quijote started referring to the tank as Rocinante. This nickname is also used by the rest of the crew now.
The tank's gunner is Boneburner. She is an excellent shot. She is aided by her collection of bone totems, upon which she carves and burns the names of daemons whispered to her by the warp. She hopes to one day ascend by being Possessed by a Daemon.
The tank's warptechpriest is Warrant Officer Anvil. She was once a deeply religious Disciple loyally serving at a temple shrine to Malal at the Great Unholy Spire in the Nostroman unholy world of Nachfel. Then she assisted with a repair project involving the temple's cogitators. Anvil was in awe of the mysterious tech and how it spoke to the warptechpriests in ways she could not understand. Something awoke derp within her. She immediately resigned her position as a temple steward to become a Tech Apprentice. After many decades she is more machine than woman. She is now also a journeyman Warptechpriest and technical Warrant Officer responsible for maintaining one of the Nostroman 9th's most valued pieces of technology, Curze's Revenge.

Eponymous Reaver, Traitor Leman Russ Exterminator

image.thumb.jpeg.10d43c65c523abffba7a982d6e215933.jpeg

image.thumb.jpeg.a673ea6601e3a747badce138590b8b55.jpeg

image.thumb.jpeg.25bc3a622a167918c48d461bfcc9b542.jpeg

Reaver also features front-mounted instead of side-mounted weaponry.  I want to complete the same upgrades to this tank next year as I plan on implementing on Khorne's ire: chipped red stripe, decals, etc.

Reaver is named after its tank commander, Eponymous Reaver. She hails from the planet Tallarn. Before joining the Nostroman 9th she had an infamous career as a space pirate. She and her crew savaged the space lanes around Tallarn for years. She grew up hearing stories of Tallarn's great tank battles. She uses this cultural advantage as she leads her Nostroman 9th Leman Russ into battle.

Nostroman 9th, "Hell's horde"

Hello everyone,

I'm happy to announce that the tournament organizer for next weekend's Merry Slaaneshmas tournament has approved the 4 kitbashes above. Huzzah!

Earlier this month I got in my last league game. I faced the forces of the Corpse Gods this time, the Salamander Chapter. Here are some photos and comments.

This little sucker did a great job screening my opponent's right flank. Its role is similar to that of my Scout Sentinels.

Warptechpriest Hoth behind the heavy armor

image.thumb.jpeg.4f6e974149dbceecd88856d60e646207.jpeg

Esmerelda Hoth didn't do too much this game. My opponent focused on my infantry so she didn't get to repair or shield the tanks. I won't be bringing her to Ocean Shores for next weekend's tournament. She's a good buff unit, but I couldn't squeeze her into the list.

Redeemer quickly eliminates scouting 13th Squad

image.thumb.jpeg.4ad5763662c2c602fc211f2d2b560076.jpeg

I'm not exactly sure why I scouted a heavy weapons team forward when I knew the opponent was going first. I'm sure I had a good reason.  At any rate, I'll have my 2 Catachan Squads ready to go by this weekend. They will perform the task of cheap, sacrificial scouting unit much more efficiently.

I was too aggressive with my big blobs. I should keep them back til mid-game. To that end, I'm bringing 3 big blobs to Ocean Shores and 3 small screening infantry squads.

Assault intercessors whittle away at 1st Squad

image.thumb.jpeg.ffe1fb0770a812fc944ccbe574d1ad1e.jpeg

I was able to chip away at the marines a bit thanks to Kholek, my Renegade Ogryn Bodyguard.

Uppy downy sentinel and stormtroopers seize the enemy backfield

image.thumb.jpeg.098a857f233d748ea24cee8ee59bbdac.jpeg

But my opponent had kept some Aggressors and Eliminators in their backfield, and my 2 units were quickly liquidated. I'm just glad I used the uppy downy strat. I might add another sentinel to the force for the Tacoma Open next summer.

Traitor snipers score a moral victory and eventually take out Vulkan

Endgame image: the Salamanders mop up

image.thumb.jpeg.e553116e5a87619fa7964566b326332f.jpeg

It was a very fun game. My opponent was sporting and kind. I like how they referred to my medics, all of whom have little bags with red crosses on them, as "pizza delivery people."  They are new to 40K, but played with the tactical acumen of a veteran. In the end, the forces of the Salamanders easily defeated the Traitor Guard. But we'll be back.

I learned a bit from this game. Even though I've been playing Guard for 25 years now, I've been focusing on my Chaos Marines this edition and I've only gotten the occasional game in with my Tallarns. The Guard play a bit differently now that the game is more lethal. We need to be a bit more cagey with the blobs as a 2nd and 3rd wave and the scout sentinels and Catachans as early-game trading pieces.

This was the last game of the fall league. Thanks to the league organizer, all of my opponents, and to Nomad Games for hosting the event. It was a blast and I look forward to the next league. I wonder what I'll bring to the next league....

I'm also making progress on my preparations for next weekend's Merry Slaaneshmas Tournament. I've only got 6 days left to prepare. I have now completed about 80ish infantry upgrades and I have about 20 more to go. Here are some photos

10th Squad is still WiP

image.thumb.jpeg.413ab874d080d7bcc47fd2b8c2b233bd.jpeg

Under the old Renegades and Heretics rules, this squad was a Mutant Rabble Squad. That's why they are equipped with shotguns. In the tournament, I'll run them as a small Catachan Squad. But next spring, I'll change them over to an Engineer Squad with shotguns so they can get inflict some dev wounds on the enemy.

Photos of Upgraded Troopers

Spoiler

Here is a group shot of some of the upgraded squads

image.thumb.jpeg.379d850db72f1ae26f3e86848ba43319.jpeg

At the bottom left, I still need to finish upgrading Harvester, a plasma trooper converted from an old Dark Vengeance Cultist.

Gunner Sek

image.thumb.jpeg.388ff792b4aea3cda598988cc649cd81.jpeg

Gunner Sek, while proficient in all types of small arms, hopes to someday become an ordained Chaos preacher. He practices his sermons on his squad mates, informing them of the many treacheries perpetrated by the Imperium, the value in worshipping Chaos Undivided, and the importance of brushing one's teeth.

Feytor

image.thumb.jpeg.8a719c4bcf81c59809d7bea324adf476.jpeg

Feytor attained mutancy in the hab blocks of Bulgar V. Pursued by the Inqusition, he used his wiles and fast reflexes to escape encounter after encounter. He made it off world by stowing away on a lighter.
He is one of the more loyal Nostromans to the leader of the Nostroman 9th Mercenary Company, Dnegrah. His loyalty is paying off because Dnegrah is starting to swear her allegiance to Slaanesh.

Vlad

image.thumb.jpeg.a7ef5a8487744d2489f969a05341495f.jpeg

Vlad is unsatisfied that his ork warboss, Greenklaw, has hired his warband out to a bunch of Chaos mercenaries. He believes "Even though we're orks we ought to have some standards on who we work for." He is planning to betray Greenklaw and lead his fellow orks in a mutiny against House Nightfall.

Glad you got a fun game in and are learning new stuff about your army.

Love your Feytor model - though, you sure they have enough arms?

Thanks! Yes, perhaps I should add a few more arms to Feytor.

Last weekend I got in a game with my Night Lords against a co-worker and his friend. It was a very fun and casual game on a chilly late November afternoon at a gaming store in Seattle, Mox Boarding House.

Night Lords Chaos Marines, House Nightfall, 3rd Battalion

Being a Night Lords Chaos Space Marine force featuring various and sundry including wrathful Warp Talons, rapacious Raptors, and Lethal Legionaries

Long ago there was a noble family, the House of Nightfall. They lived in an age of peace and stability established by their world's ruler. Their ruler was Konrad Curze, the fair and just lord of the garden planet Nostramo. And then one day, a corrupt and weak emperor sent an assassin to slay the Lord Curze. The vile assassin succeeded. The emperor then destroyed the paradise that was Nostramo. House Nightfall managed to escape in their merchant families' vessels. But since that day they have never forgotten and  vengeance upon the emperor will be theirs!

House Nightfall is a mercenary and merchant house, sort of like a Chaotic Rogue Trader family. The House's Council of Eight owns and operates over a dozen star systems, a score of void ships, 3 warbands of Night Lords Chaos Marines, a free company of Chaos Knights, and 9 regiments of Renegades and Heretics Chaos Militia and Traitor Guard. This particular force represents House Nightfall's 3rd Battalion of Night Lords.

CHARACTERS

Lord Travor Ironclaw, Chaos Lord with jumppack, powerfist, plasma pistol (90), Talisman of Burning Blood Enhancement (15)=105
● Special Rule: Lord of Chaos--once per round Chaos Lords can allow their unit to use a strat for free on their unit, even if that strat has already been used this turn.
● Special Rule: Cruel Hunter--this model's unit can pile in or consolidate 6" instead of 3".
● Special Rule: Talisman of Burning Blood--buffs the number of Travor's attacks and his strengty by 1 to 3.
It is an understatement to say life in an Imperial prison is miserable. It is hell. The capricious guards, the random torture sessions from Inquisitors, rape and beatings at the hands of fellow inmates, and worst of all, the disgusting bland vat-grown gruel that inmates are fed. This is what Inmate Number [Redacted] real name of Travor, had to face every day.
Travor was born and raised on the hive world of Necromunda. Like most of his peers he was a criminal in a gang running extortion rackets, smuggling contraband, and doing hits on rival gang members. One day Travor and the other members of his Orlock gang were caught up in a sweep. A small army of Arbites police officers had a quota to meet. So the Arbites entered the Underhives and arrested all suspected gingers, including Travor, regardless of whether they had committed a crime.
The young criminal found himself on a prison ship bound for God knows where. When Travor found himself on Imperial Prison Planet 647 in the Segmentum Pacificus he felt some relief because, in the Imperium, there are some fates worse then a prison planet.
For 32 years Travor endured a living hell. During the day he worked in the prison's mines and manufactorums. During the night he and his fellow Orlocks fought constant wars against other inmates. It was a struggle to survive.
One day salvation arrived. It arrived in the form of a seven foot tall figure. The figure was clad in midnight armor and had red glowing eyes. It held a vicious sword of whirring chains in one hand and in the other hand it held the dripping head of the hated Chief Warden Ignatus.
The mysterious figure told Travor and the other inmates they were from something called House Nightfall. An offer was made. The inmates could help the mysterious figure kill the remaining guards and then join House Nightfall in the stars. Or the inmates could remain in their cells and wait for the wardens and Arbites to return.
For Travor and most of the inmates this was not a difficult choice. They rioted and killed anyone in the prison who was not an inmate. The inmates then settled old scores and killed each other in a bloodbath. In the end only a handful of inmates survived. Mostly Travor and his fellow Orlocks and their allied Eschers.
The convicts entered a small fleet of battered shuttles and took to the stars as probationary members of House Nightfall. Travor thinks that was almost a millenia ago now. Although time is not a constant when the warp is concerned, so it could  have been only a hundred years ago.
At any rate Travor has many memories of his life since joining House Travor. Working as a machinist in Nightfall's arms manufactourums, where even a lowly janitor is well paid and cared for thanks to the Unionist Faction. Aiding the pro-daemon faction of House Nightfall by sneaking onto Imperial planets with fellow Cultists and summoning daemons from the warp. Serving as a soldier in the ranks of one of House Nightfall's Traitor Guard Regiments, the Nostroman 9th. Travor was eventually awarded his powerfist for acts of courage and sacrifice and he changed his name to Ironclaw. Along the way he fell in love with a fellow soldier Seera, raised a family with her, and became a colonel.
When Ironclaw witnessed a hated Adeptes of the Space Wolves crush Seera's skull he realized his life had changed. In one-on-one combat he defeated the Adeptes, who he now wears as a tabard, and was offered the opportunity of a lifetime. He was allowed to begin the Mercantile Rituals of Blood which would transform him into a Chaos Space Marine.
Ironclaw served with honor as a Legionary, Chaos Biker, and then as Atramentar. With the aid of the Unionist and Daemon Factions within House Nightfall he was promoted to the rank of Chaos Lord. He now soars the skies upon his jetpack and commands House Nightfall's 3rd Battalion. He is still amazed that a lowly convict could attain such glories.

☆ Lord Decimus, Chaos Lord, daemon hammer, plasma pistol=90
● Special Rule: Lord of Chaos--once per game Decimus can increase his melee AP, STR, DMG, and ATT by 1.
● Special Rule: Chance for Glory--once per round Lord Decimus can allow his unit from to use a strat for free, even if that strat has already been used.
Lord Decimus is not actually a member of House Nightfall. He is a diplomatic envoy from a large coalition of Night Lords warbands. He is trying to return the Night Lords into a unified force by uniting them under one banner. He has asked House Nightfall to join this coalition.
House Nightfall is considering his offer. Until then Decimus has agreed to fight at House Nightfall's side and to temporarily aid the 2nd Battalion.

☆ Lady Esmerelda Hoth, Chaos Warpsmith, flamer tendril, melta tendril, plasma pistol, Forge Weapon, Warlord=70
● Special Rule: Warpsmith--Esmerelda has Lone Operative if she is within 3 inches of a vehicle.
● Special Rule: Master of Mechanisms-- during her command phase Hoth can heal a friendly vehicle within 3 inches for D3 wounds. That vehicle then gets +1 to hit until the next Night Lord command phase.
● Special Rule: Enrage Machine Spirits--at the end of her command phase Hoth can force an enemy vehicle within 12 inches to make a battle-shock test.
Lady Esmerelda Hoth is an ambassador dispatched from the Dark Mechanicum to aid House Nightfall. The two Chaos factions have enjoyed a long and fruitful alliance: the Warpsmiths provide daemonic technology and House Nightfall provides mercenary fighting prowess. Hoth has teamed her daemon engine "monster menagerie" up with House Nightfall because she received a vision from the Dark Omnissiah. In the vision she joined with the Night Lords to consecrate Imperium-held worlds in blood.
She secretly is aiding the "Black Nebula" faction within House Nightfall's Council of Thirteen. Esmerelda hopes that her efforts will destabilize House Nightfall's easternmost star systems. Systems which are coveted by Esmerelda's Dark Mechanicum superiors. Although lately she is begun questioning this mission and she may even ally with House Nightfall as a double agent.

Nightgaunt the Dream Master, Dark Apostle, bolt pistol, Accursed Crozius=75
● Special Rule: Dark Zealotry--Nightgaunt warps the fabric of space and time, as such his squad gains +1 to wound during the melee phase.
● Special Rule: Demagogue--once per battle at the start of any phase. Nightgaunt can use his mastery of Dreams to remove battle-shock from 1 friendly unit within 9 inches
● Special Rule: Malign Sacrifice--Nightgaunt can cause the enemy to suffer vivid waking dreams with hortific results. At the start of the fight phase 1 Dark Disciple can sacrifice themself. On a roll of 2 to 5 they do 1 mortal wound to an enemy unit within engagement range. On a roll of a 6, they do D3 mortal wounds to the enemy.
Nightgaunt is an artist who specializes in melding human body parts, the stuff of dreams, and the Dark Arts. Nightgaunt emerged into realspace from the Plane of Dreams at the same time the infant Conrad Curze was hurtled onto the nights cape of Nostramo. While Curzed evolved as a leader of the Night Lords Legion, Nightgaunt developed a an artist of the Warp.
Nightgaunt did not worship the Dark Gods, instead he beguiled them with the stuff of dreams and formed alliances with them.
When Curze rebelled during the Horus Heresy, Nightgaunt approached him and offered his services as a Warprender. Since then Nightgaunt's interests have generally aligned with the interests of various Night Lords factions. His current ties to House Nightfall benefit both parties. They gain his powerful presence on the battlefield and he gains untold souls and bodies to use in his art.

Bolivar the Black, Chaos Sorcerer, bolt pistol, force weapon, Infernal Gaze=60
Uros Kas, Chaos Sorcerer, bolt pistol, force weapon, Infernal Gaze=60
• Special Rule: Prescience--All attacks that target a Sorceror's unit suffer a -1 to hit.
• Special Rule: Gift of Chaos--whenever a Sorceror shoots or fights, after his attacks are completed select one enemy unit. If that unit was hit by a psychic attack it must take a leadership test. If it fails it suffers D3 mortal wounds.
Bolivar the Black's skill with spell and tome is rarely outmatched. Like most Night Lords, Sorcerer Bolivar holds a deep skepticism towards the Chaos Gods. Chaos is a tool to be wielded against the foe not a power to which one should become enthralled.  His powers come from a deep understanding of arcane forces not from pacts made with dark beings. Instead he simply views it as a tool.        He is a trusted leader within House Nightfall. Before the Horus Heresy he was a delinquent in a street gang on Nostramo. When Night Haunter asked for volunteers to swell his ranks, Bolivar, seeing a way out of poverty, joined up. He does not regret his decision because as a Night Lord he is able to terrify and murder through spellcraft on a grand scale.

Uros Kas was raised on the House Nightfall world of Cacophony. On this planet the laws of physics do not apply and the Warp's deadly influence is everywhere. As a youth, when his village's protective Gellar Field failed, the weirdlings of the Immaterium swept in and began slaughtering the townspeople.
But Uros Kas fought back. He somehow knew the names of the thousand and one daemons and he struck a deal. He gave them his soul in exchange for service. The Warplings were impressed and gave Uros Kas horrific sorcerous powers.
From that day he has served all manner of Chaotic daemons, a slave to their whims. His powers were eventually recognized by House Nightfall and he underwent the Merchant Trials and became a Chaos Marine. He serves admirably and provides his daemon overlords with many souls captured on Night Lords raids. His fellow Chaos Marines fear and distrust him, but they respect his awesome sorcerous abilities.

BATTLELINE
10th Squad, 10 Cultists, 10 Cultist Firearms, 10 Brutal Assault Weapons=50
-Special Rule: ForThe Dark Gods!--Cultists can make their objective "sticky" during the command phase
The Cultists are detached from the Nostroman 9th, a House Nightfall Traitor Guard Regiment. The Nostroman 9th are a diverse lot. Some fight for coin, some for Chaos, some fight against the fascist Imperium, and some fight for the sake of fighting. These combat veterans are willing to put their lives on the line as long as they receive their due from the Regiment's Paymaster.

House Nightfall's Chaos Legionaries are a motley collection of mercenaries, murderers, and maniacs. They have long furthered the interests of House Nightfall and are well paid in slaves, armor, and weaponry. During combat they skulk around the battlefield, avoiding a fair fight. They grab objectives, pepper the enemy with bolt shots, and then pounce where they are least expected, flaying the enemy alive with chainswords. They excel in terror tactics, slipping behind enemy lines to slit throats and terrorize the foe.
Hatred Scoursoul is a relatively recent member of House Nightfall. He was born into a powerful family of Rogue traders and lived the life of a swashbuckling explorer. But his first love was always archaeology. When his parents were killed during a trade deal gone awry, Hatred inherited a small fleet of Explorator vessels and their crews. His passion lay in unearthing and examining ancient artifacts, xenon or otherwise. He soon set to work trading, exploring, digging, and swashbuckling throughout the verse. The Ordos Hereticus became suspicious of Hatred's activities, but never had enough evidence to convince House Scourscowl's political allies that Hatred was Corrupted.
It was on a dig on the 3rd moon of Oros Prime that he found a shard of the Black Rune of Damnation. Fascinated, he took the object back to his ship and studied it. He soon realized its full potential. The shard granted superhuman abilities to the bearer, but at the cost of their soul. Hatred willingly trapped his soul within the black artifact and gained rapid reflexes, superb strength, and other abilities. The Rune also whispered insights to Hatred, informing him of the best trade deals and the best archeologiacal dig sites.
Somehow the Ordo Hereticus faction of the Inquisition soon got wind of Rogue Trader Hatred's soul-trapping Black Rune of Damnation. They were not amused. An Inquisitor Javeert began chasing Hatred and his retinue through the verse. After numerous near-escapes from Javeert, Hatred turned to House Nightfall for salvation. House Nightfall agreed to protect Hatred if he surrendered the Black Rune of Damnation, his Explorator vessels, and their crew to him. In exchange House Nightfall would kill Javeert and erase all evidence of Hatred's existence from the Inquisition's databanks. Hatred begrudgingly agreed to the deal. House Nightfall's covert operatives succeeded in eliminating Javeert and erasing Hatred from their files. Hatred was saved!
As a recent House member, Hatred Scourscowl has had to work twice as hard as everyone else. Lately Aspiring Champion Hatred's bravery, luck, and tactical acumen have impressed House Nightfall's leadership. They have awarded him with temporary command of 3rd Battalion.
Aspiring Champion Rosas is not a native son of Nostramo. He was a human space pirate, a reaver, who cooperated with House Nightfall on some raids over a millenia ago. The council of Eight was impressed with the guile, ferocity, and tactics of Rosas and his crew. The Council offered to transform Rosas and his entire crew into Astartes using gene seed the Pirates had themselves stolen from some unfortunate Imperial Fists. All the wanton Raiders had to do was pledge loyalty to House Nightfall.
Rosas and his crew agreed. Those that survived the transformation if the "Mercantile Rituals of Blood" eagerly adopted the House Nightfall's tactics and strategic interests. The Reavers Squad is made up of the surviving members of Rosas' pirate band. The past few centuries have been good to them as they are now able to plunder, rape, and terrorize on a much grander scale than when they were mere humans.
Jarvak the Jackal was raised on a feral world. He and his people lived upon the plains and worshipped the Great Jackal. Jarvak was a renowned hunter and a skilled rider of the famously fast Ernegi lizard mounts.
Then one day the midnight people from the sky swept through the plains like a wildfire. They burned, raped, and pillaged the tribesmen. Jarvak and his surviving clan members prayed to their Jackal God.
And the Jackal God answered. Suddenly the metal men in midnight colors ceased their attacks. They approached the village elders and struck a deal. In exchange for a tithe of ten of their best warriors given every year, they would provide the Jackal clan with great and wondrous weapons. Jarvak went with the Midnight Warriors and, in turn, his people received swords and other weapons made of a mysterious metal. The Jackal Clan now rules over the plains and its best warriors now fight for House Nightfall as Chaos MariGod.
And over the years Jackal has become a powerful leader of the Midnight Warriors. He is still a worshipper of the Great Jackal and he often spills Blood in the name of his god.

Batista is a scoundrel through and through. Raised on a House Nightfall merchant ship, he traveled the trade lanes. He became a black marketeer aboard his vessel. He gained a reputation for skullduggery and for offering anything to anyone, for the right price.
One day he approached an agent of the Council of Thirteen. He offered them a pallet of geneseed he had somehow acquired. In exchange they would make him a Chaos Marine.
House Nightfall accepted and Batista underwnt the Merchant Trials and became a Chaos Marine. Now Batista has brought his black market abilities to a new level.
Ironically, Batista stole the geneseed from House Nightfall, somehow disguised its genetic Night Lords markers, and then sold it back to House Nightfall. If the Atramentar or Enforcers ever learned about this audacity, he would be syrun up in seconds.

TRANSPORTS
Dragonne, Chaos Rhino, armored tracks, Havoc Launcher, combi-weapon=75
● Special rule: Self Repair--at the start of my command phase, repair 1 wound.
This ancient transport manuevers the Night Lords around the battlefield. They deliver their deadly cargo and then provide fire support with bolter rounds and Havoc missiles.
House Nightfall's Legionaries and Chosen suspect that Dragonne is tainted. Her walls sometimes seep blood and odd cries emanate from within during the darkest of hours. Warpsmith tarot readings of Dragonne's machine spirit indicate that these are auspicious signs. Although some say the Warpsmiths are not to be trusted.

OTHER DATASHEETS

First Claw, 10 Chaos Chosen, 8 Accursed Weapons, 10 bolt pistols, 10 bolters, 2 powerfists, icon=250
♤ Second Claw, 5 Chaos Chosen, 4 Accursed Weapons, 5 bolt pistols, 5 bolters, powerfist, icon=125
● Special Rule: Chosen Marauders--Chosen can fall back and then shoot and charge
● Special Rule: Chosen Marauders--Chosen can advance and charge
● Icon: Unit can re-roll Dark Pact tests
In a legion consisting of murderous criminals, the Chosen are seen as particularly heinous scalawags. Over the years they have scrounged up rare armor and melee weapons. Some are equipped with boarding shields to ward off blows and powerful chainglaives that can easily cut a dreadnought's leg in half.
Champion Ravenblade maintains House Nightfall's Aviary of Doom. It is he who maintains the House's murder of Rooks, Ravens, and Crows. The birds specialize in flaying the skin from a torture victims over the course of many days. Starting, of course, by slowly pecking out the victim's eyes.
While he is quite vain, Mournsong is a brilliant duelist. He is also a gifted composer. He is currently crafting his magnum opus. His torture victims musical instruments--their cries of pain as Moursong flats them alive bring tears to his House Nightfall audiences during his grand performances.

♤ Malcharion, Chaos Helbrute Dreadnought, Helbrute Hammer, twin lascannon=130
Malcharion once once a hero of the Night Lords who fought alongside Conrad Curze. Warpsmith Hoth's dark magick's have recently revived Malcharion from his long slumber in a stasis chamber. He is not amused.

Yemelina's Lament, Chaos Defiler, Defiler Claws, Defiler Scourge, twin lascannon, battlecannon=190
● Special Rule: Scuttling Walker: during rheir movement or advance phase Yemelina's Lament can move over friendly models as if they were not there. The daemon engine can also move over terrain pieces 4 inches or shorter as if they were not there.
● Special Rule: Daemonforge--once per fight phase Yemelina's Lament can use the "Counteroffensive" strat for 0 CP even if I have already used it this turn.
Yemelina, witch; Yemelina is a Witch, a practitioner of the Dark arts who hails from a mountainous and forested traitor Slavic world. The Nostroman 9th captured her during a raid on a rival Chaos faction, although truth be told she willingly joined the Nostroman ranks, for her auguries had predicted such a path would increase her power tenfold.
While the leaders of the Nostroman 9th think Yemelina is a psyker, she is not. She is a witch. She was apprenticed to the infamous Hag Witch for a year and a day. During that time she learned many great and terrible spells. She also learned how to make a delicious borscht.
The Nostromans psychically chained her to a Defiler. She uses her spells to power the stalk tank, which is crewed by Nostromans. Thus tether to a giant Chaos tank is both her greatest pride, for she is truly powerful now. But it is also her greatest Lament, for she is, on many ways, a slave.
Captain Cade, tank commander; Tank Commander Captain Cade is an intrepid tank commander whose specialty is raiding enemy territory. He will, without orders, dissappear on long-range raids and harass enemy supply depots, headquarters, and convoys. The Nostroman 9th doesn't punish Cade because his tactics are usually very effective. On the raids he usually brings along a squadron of sentinels.
Vrar, loader; Vrar was pressed into service during a Nostroman 9th raid. He hails from a backwater farm world and doesn't really understand the Chaos vs. Imperium struggle. But he does enjoy seeing the world with the Traitor Guard.
Warp Dabbler, gunner, Warp Dabbler likes to shoot whatever Cade tells her to shoot and then watch it go boom
Blightchild, Engineer's mate, Blightchold is an elderly peasant and former cleric of House Nightfall's pro-daemon faction. After many happy years of happy marriage her husband passed away. Despondent and lonely, Blightchild joined the Traitor Guard. She now gets to crew a heavy machine gun as well as assist Warrant Officer Muizz in performing the necessary unholy rituals necessary to keep Yemelina's Lament working in good order.
Warrant Officer Muizz, engineer; Muizz hails from the rugged desert planet of Tallarn. Tallarns are expert tankers. And the tradition of maintaining tanks through skillful engineering and hard work is in his blood.
Humungus, pilot; Humungus is a masked beast of a man. He is as cruel as he is large. He was once a bandit on an isolated world ruled by viokent biker gangs. Humungus rose to become a Biker gang warlord in his own right.
One day Night Warriors came from the stars. They had an offer: Join them, or die. Humungus and his gang refused the offer. In the ensuing battle, Humungus' gang was defeated. The Night Warriors pressed the survivors into service in the Nostroman 8th and 9th Regiments.
Humungus found himself in the 9th Regiment as a foot soldier. He slowly rose through the ranks and now pilots a heavy stalk tank. He still harbors a great resentment towards the Nostromans for killing his Biker gang and removing him as a warlord. He is patiently biding his time until he can get his revenge.

Ragnarok, Chaos Predator Annihilator, Predator Twin Lascannon, 2 lascannons, armored tracks, Havoc Launcher, combi-weapon=130
-Special Rule: Annihilator--The main gun can re-roll the damage roll against monsters or vehicled
-Special Rule: Twin-Linked--The main gun can re-roll rolls to wound
FierFracture was once a venerated Imperial Fists battle tank. But one moonlit night the Blood Wolves caught the VII Legion Loyalists unawares in an ambush on the Planet T'olku. After Svane Vulfbad wounded Imperial Fist Captain Alaric Eshara, the bulk of the Imperial Fists managed to escape due to the Captain's rear guard sacrifice. But much of the Imperial Fists' equipment, including FierFracture, was captured by the Fallen Space Wolves. The Blood Wolves keep Captain Eshara alive and chained to back of the vehicle as a testament to Khorne.
Ragnarok: "Fenrir howls terribly before the doors to Hel. The wolf will break its bonds and run. I know much wisdom, I see deep in the future all the way to Ragnarok, a dark day for the gods.
Brothers will fight and kill each other. Sister's children will defile kinship. It is harsh in the world. Whoredom rife. An axe age, a sword age, shields are riven, a wind age, a wolf age. Before the world goes headlong, no man will have mercy on another."
- excerpt from Voluspa,10th Century Norse poem

■ Arngrim's Bug Hunters, 5 Chaos Havocs, accursed weapon, plasma gun, 4 heavy bolters=125
Forrix's Night Snipers, 5 Chaos Havocs, accursed weapon, plasma gun, 4 Havoc Autocannons=125
● Special Rule: Stabilization Talons--Havocs ignore all negative modifiers to hit when shooting.
The Bug Hunters have been fighting the Long War since the Horuus Heresy. They are equipped to take out enemy light infantry and light vehicles at range. In their free time they like to craft palaces made of living human flesh.
The Night Snipers are perpetually surrounded by a black mist. They strike from the shadows with thundering heavy weapons fire and then dissappear. They never fight fair and they sow terror upon the foe.

Champion Ragnar's Bats Out of Hell, 10 Chaos Raptors, powerfist, plasma pistol, 9 chainswords (170)
● Special Rule: Fearsome--any enemy units within 6" that take a leadership or battle shock test do so at -1.
● Special Rule: Terrifying Assault--at the start of the fight phase, all enemy units in engagement range must take a battle shock test.
The Raptors scream down from the aethers, with chainswords aglow and eager to flay the enemies' skin. Each has joined the Chaos Raptor Cult and has now merged with his or her unholy jumppack.

Warpnight, 5 Chaos Warp Talons, Mark of Slaanesh=125
● Special Rule: Warpstrike--If Warpnight ends a fight phase and no enemy units are within engagement range and it has slain its enemy in melee, then it can jump back into ongoing reserves.
The Warp Talons are more akin to daemonic Blood Hounds than Chaos Marines. The Night Lords normally would not tolerate such daemonic taint amidst their ranks. But they see Warpnight not as fallen Chaos Marines.  Instead the Night Lords view the Warp Talons as a symbolic manifestation of Curze's hatred towards the Empire's hypocrisy.

Champion Chamorro's Bat to the Bone, 3 Chaos Bikers, powerfist, 2 chainswords, 2 meltaguns, 3 combi-bolters, icon=70
● Special Rule: Rapid Assault--+1 strength on the charge
● Icon: Unit can re-roll Dark Pact tests
The Chaos Bikers epitomize the Night Lords way of war. They prowl near the foe's flanks terrorizing the most vulnerable enemy units and avoiding a fair fight.
The Bat To The Bone Biker Squad is lead by Chamorro Nightfall. Chamorro can trace her families' lineage back to before the fall of Nostramo. Her family was fortnate enough to flee the planet with its fortunes largely intact. And they were one of House Nightfall's founding families.
Lord Chamorro was once the leader of 1st Battalion and she held a seat on House Nightfall's ruling Council of Eight. She was forced to abdicate her seat because of the infamous "Argenta Admech Incident."
One day on the planet of Argenta Prime Chamorro developed psychic abilities. She believed her sorcerous powers stemmed from a biomechanical fist she had recently ripped from a loyalist Admech techpriest. In reality the powers flowed from the Chaos God Tzeech. House Nightfall suspected Chamorro was being tricked by Tzeentch and their Atramentar conducted an investigation. House Nightfall, like most Night Lords, has a deep skepticism about worshipping the Chaos gods.
Because Chamorro's warpcraft got results and she and her family were quite powerful, the Atramentar treated her leniently. They issued "The Edict of Nantz." Chamorro lost her position as 1st Battalion Warlord and she lost her seat on the Council of Eight. But, in return, she was not executed. In exchange, Chamorro had to destroy her "magical" fist and she swore to never proselytize other warband members to follow Tzeentch. So far this tenuous accord has remained in effect and all parties have honored it.
In punishment Chamorro was demoted to a rank and file Legionary.* She has since earned her current status as the Aspiring Champion of her own Chaos Biker Squad. She is still ambitious and hopes to regain her warband and to eventually gain a seat on the ruling council.
* GW for some reason eliminated Chaos Biker Lords

Yemelina's Lament chipped away at various units, took out a damaged Corvus Blackstar, and killed a Centurion Squad in melee! None of this would have been possible without constant repairs and buffs from my Warpsmith Esmerelda Hoth.

The board at midgame

As you can see, both sides are moving up, vying for board control. But my opponents' Corvus Blackstars have granted them more mobility.

Corvus Blackstar delivers Watch Captain Artemis and Veterans

Those 2 hovering gunships were great. They dealt out quite a bit of ranged damaged and moved key Death Watch units into position quickly. Most importantly, they are incredibly well-sculpted models.

I would add an outflanking Legionary Squad with Dark Apostle to this zone of the battle. It was a fun little side fight that occupied much of the game. In the end, the Swarmlord prevailed.

In the end, the Trygon killed the bikers and a heavily wounded Malcharion finished off the Trygon. Although much of the damage to the Trygon was done by my Chaos Annihilator Predator.

Bug Hunters, my Chaos Havocs with Heavy Bolters

image.thumb.jpeg.888844647781c7cde0d9b1e9367177e1.jpeg

This squad really shined in this game. Killing bugs and Death Watch infantry with ease. I think the Pactbound Zealots army-rule really helped them. They were also helped by the fact that this was a casual game.

Rievers deep-strike into my deployment zone

image.thumb.jpeg.075f39250436a72f5067bed65d3c4504.jpeg

I'd have to say this move was a key tactic by my allies. I had thought that my Cultists, seen here on the right, were screening out deep strikes. But I was wrong.

In the end, Artemis fell. But then he got back up with his get-back-up ability.

I'd have to say she was my MVP. She worked hard to keep my Predator and Defiler in repairs and buffed. Huzzah!

It was a fun game indeed! It was also an incredibly close game. At the end of Turn 3 the Death Watch and Nids had a 2 point lead. By the end of Turn 4 the gap had narrowed to a 1-point lead.

But, in the end, the Unholy Alliance beat the Midnight Clad by about a dozen points. What a great game!

I also managed to finish upgrading 100ish Traitor Guard for this weekend's Merry Slaaneshmas tournament on the coast.

This project took many, many hours of painting over the last 10 or so weeks. I logged in 50 hours of painting in the month of November alone! My army is finally upgraded from a 9th edition Chaos Renegades and Heretics Militia to a 10th edition Traitor Guard army.
