ETL 5, The Master Thread. Strategium is now UP!

You have to pledge a fixed configuration that corresponds to a fixed amount of points when you put the vow in. However, small adjustments, especially if they are at the same points value can be tolerated (they are immaterial).

Congrats Fytharin. So, the 15th. Gives me more time. Just finally primed my Wulfen pack & have the BC's ready as well. And the conversion for a Land Speeder Tempest is halfway there. So, maybe real life will let me keep going at this pace & finally get some hobby stuff done(I know, I just jinxed myself but one can hope can't he????)

Like I said I have been working on a few guides to help people with ideas for working on their models.

Initially these have been going out as a newsletter type format to those who are participating in their first ETL's

The idea is to provide them with additional support, however all of us are at different stages in our ETL experiences, so maybe there is a little of something for everyone, adn I will be putting the guides into general circulation for all the Wolves.

I hope you enjoy and if you can think of anything you would like to see added, post up here or drop me a PM, as we can maybe make it a resource to be added to over time.

Let me know what you think.

A few guys have of you have come back with queries, and with that in mind I have written up a 2 part tutorial on creating, uploading & posting pictures using the B&C gallery.

Rather than make a huge message posting the step-by-step, I have made them into topics and by clicking on the link below, you can access them.

I have also included a few other links, for things such as making fur, making cloaks etc.

I hope you find this useful.

If I have missed anything, let me know and I can add it in, as I am hoping that over time we can build up a small list and produce a resource guide which can be expanded upon.  If you also have your own tutorials and the like which you feel could be useful to the Wolves then by all means share them too.

I have not included painting tutorials yet, as painting is very subjective and there are a myriad of techniques and paints out there.

Thanks

Danny

Danny :)

Crumbs, every ETL the pack grows that bit stronger. In previous years our numbers were the main limiting factor but if we keep on recruiting at our current rate we'll have the numbers required to have a pop at the top spot!!!

I'm now getting rather eager for the 15th to arrive. :tu:

I am in a bit of a quandary.

Since I got the airbrush, painting has sped up ten-fold, so I am feeling confident this year about doing more than usual.

Do I go full tread-head this time out? Or full foot-slogger?

I also have these guys who are half-done who can get painted up too:

What should I work on this year?

The competitive side of me says what will give you the best reward to effort ratio? (What will paint up the quickest for the most points)

The gamer in me says what do you need to paint up to field an all painted kick arse army?

Lol ... For me I rarely game so I'm going for points rich units. If I gamed I'd be doing the units first.

Either way it looks like me and you will be having a bit if a paint off for ETL forum champion. So maybe points rich is the way to go. Bring it on!!!

Do we know if anyone else is looking to go big this year?

I have the models to go pretty big, though we'll have to see what I can get through!

I'm going to break it up into a few vows.

- Murder Squad / 3 units Wulfen, 1 Murderfang (need the Wulfen done by June, so hoping that sets a quick pace)

- Heroes of the Aett / 1500-2000pts of ICs

- ~1500pts of PA and TDA squads I haven't rebased/repainted yet

- Stormwolf, Predator, LRC (and a few razorbacks/landspeeders if allowed, already airbrushed the base coat)

Should be a fun, busy summer :D

Edit - plenty more I could do if I get somehow through everything else ;)

Here's where the razorbacks/landspeeders are, Wulfen stripped and reprimed for the 15th - https://imgur.com/07KxQKb

Sw1.

Loke you I almost never game. But have been falling somewhat in love with armour becsuse of the painting opportunities they allow me.

Mactire.

I would have more fun with characters so I'd probably vow the Wyrdbros with Njal for the 5 man librarium and the 3 wolf priests.

I'd keep hhe 6 wolf lords for another vow

Yeah I'm looking at 3,750 points for 24 characters including Cypher.

Then it's a stupid amount of TDA and PA painting. Though if you are painting a mix it's worth noting a basic WG in TDA is 33 points and if they're attached to a pack as a leader your looking at a few extra points. So unless you need the WG in TDA to access a TDA heavy weapon it's worth separating them into the packs. Depending on the pack you can get an extra 4-7 points which adds up if you do quite a few.

Hahaha. Yup years of dedicated painting procrastination has resulted in silly levels of primed infantry.

Did these in the days when GW did the hand flamer spray gun :D

I am getting a bit ashamed of them, so the ETL may be the kick up the bum I need.

TDA pack leaders could be done ;)

We will see what I can be capable of this year.

My first ETL was a pack of Fenrisian Wolves and 3 packs of 3 TWC.

Last year was a Knight  & a Fellblade

This year, who knows?

I am looking forward to seeing what everyone here can do.

And it doesn't matter if a vow is big or small, its the fact that you made the effort to do & complete a vow that does matter.

I am really proud of all the Wolves this year :)

So how's everyone doing prep wise?

I've slowed down a bit as the number of models unprimed is mounting. I think I need to have a spraying session and then stick stuff in storage. I also need some wire for mounting stuff on for painting.

Has everyone planned their first vow out yet? Would be good to drop 46+ (need to check where we are now) vows on the table within the first hour or two of the ETL starting.

Whatever your planning on vowing see if you can work out what you can paint in two weeks and pledge that. Then get it painted in two weeks. Rinse and repeat five times and you'll have a 3 week buffer incase you find something takes a bit longer. If a model like a knight will take longer than two weeks, lengthen the time and reduce the number of pledges.

I'm hoping we can majorly out number other forums for the first month and if we capitalise on this with quick completions and re-vowing we could pull a Leicester City style win (aka early points lead and keeping hold of that points advantage (if your not British Google Leicester City wins premiership)).

Moving house has pretty much killed all my prep, have a unit of wulfen built though that ill try and prime this week, then need to figure out what else im gonna do.

Should be able to get a second pack of wulfen out of bits i have.

Have a few bikers sat around that im thinking of doing wyrdstorm brotherhood on bikes for, should be a fairly easy job hopefully.

Have very little money for buying new models just now as holidays/studio time is fast approaching - kitbash time!

My prep is mostly done, I have cypher and 6 bikers to build and prime, and 5 wulfen and 25 fenrisian wolves to prime, and that is everything prepped. Still need to decide on manageable vows but I suspect my first will be roughly 1k.

I have to prime a few models, but am largely just sitting and waiting (impatiently) right now

My vow-able models is in the 5-6k range, so I'm going to vow as much as early as possible.

I don't recommend this for everybody, I just know I work better when I have clearly set goals.

Those looking at 3k plus need to play a different game plan. Looks like we're going to be enjoying some bigger vows between a few of is. What we need to do is make sure atleast one of us out paints what Kurama paints in the AoD forum for SW's!!!

I am focusing on characters early on, and I want to take my time with them so that they come out looking as good as possible. I have Bjorn, Murderfang, Krom, Ulrik, and a TDA Rune Priest to choose from. To break the detailed painting up, I have roughly 30 Fenrisian wolves to add to my available models. All of it is built, and most of it is primed and waiting the 15th!!

End of Line
