Those bases look good, really liking that Apostle and the Sorceror's familiar too.

Thanks, I really like the silver tower familiars, little disappointed that the familiar is now a stratagem rather than warhead, but hey ho.

Here's the second sorcerer and the modernised CSM squad.

Since I promised something new: I've spent nearly all summer slowly painting this guy:

This has been a real labour to get finished, it's a seriously big model and to get it done in my army scheme was very time consuming. But I'm pretty pleased with how it all worked out in the end. It's pretty much built stock since I've never built one before, I'd like to do another in the future and would be more inclined to make some modifications.

Anyway enjoy.

I love your Maulerfiend! One of my favorite models and your paintjob and the base are simply awesome!

Thanks man, the base idea came from one of my local GW staffers.

The fiend was well worth the effort my friend!

Thanks, I'm glad that it paid off, just shows what an hour or so a day can achieve

That's a great maulerfiend. It shows me what it could look like as Red Corsairs too. Love the IG dude too. lol (that's a bad way to end your first 15 hours!)

Yeah! it's just a random pushfit Cadian that I had floating around If I'd had some multipart ones then I might have done a bit more with the pose, to try and create a bit more desperation for him in his unpleasant predicament!

Sgt. Blank.

Awesome work on the maulerfiend as well as the marines, nice looking force you got there

Thanks, I actually took a couple of army shots the other day, I'll share them here:

Made a start on a new project: A Hellforged Predator, I haven't gone down the forgeworld route though and am building one with forgefiend parts to create the plasma destroyer. I've opted to make a new front plate in order to create space for the legion symbol which I am doing in a similar way to how I did it on the apostle dread - with old skeleton warrior shield parts in a technique I think I nicked from Tzen about a decade ago. I've got a few plans for some trim and to chain up all the hatches, but I think I need to raise the mounting plate for the turret to give the gun better clearance.

Thoughts?

Progress! I've raised the turret, started adding trim and so on, still need to finish the trim, and work on the sponsons, for which I'm thinking lascannons to add some punch to the army. Havoc launcher is currently just balanced in place.

Next step has been work on one of the sponsons. I've picked up a box o' skulls from GW for general use, but with the specific intention of replacing the targeting doohickey that hold the mounting post of the sponsons in place. Fortunately there are a pair of matched skulls in the box that fit perfectly in this role.as you'll see in the picture this is a white-faced mock up as I will be painting in bits.

I've also added some trim around the lascannons, but I still feel it lacks the finishing touch, I'm loathe to use the alternative muzzles from the upgrade sprue, and am ideally planning to have some different ideas for each side, currently considering chains and parchments but any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

I MaliGn, faithful servant of Lorgar and Bearer of His Word rise to the challenge of E TENEBRAE LUX on the side of the Heretic Astartes of the XVIIth Legion and the Chase Space Marine Forum and vow to complete 1 Carrion Pattern Hellforged Predator with plasma destroyer and lascannons sponsons of total points value of 212 points ere August 1st, 2018. Success will bring me, the Word Bearers and Lorgar eternal glory and failure will doom me to wear the Badge of the Oathbreaker until the year-end.

I've also worked up some fluff for the Carrion pattern Predator:

"Carrion" pattern Hellforged Predator.

The Carrion pattern of the Predator chassis is named for the Hellforge where it was first developed by the Hereteks and Daemonancers of the Word Bearers on the planet Ghalmek. Located deep within the warp storm known as the Maelstrom; the world is dedicated to the production of the blasphemous Daemon-Engines employed by the heretical space marines; and is home to some of the most skilled Warpsmiths of the seventeenth legion. Among the countless debased manufactories and infernal workshops are the Hellforges: gargantuan edifices that are as much ritual chambers for diabolic workings as they are vast halls of industrial effort.

Hellforge Carrion specialises in working on the recovered carcasses of captured Imperial warhead, reconsecrating these holy relics to the Dark Gods of the Immaterium. The Hereteks of Carrion have a particular fondness for the fallen battle tanks of the Adeptus Astartes, using the most obscene of rituals to grant the Machine Spirits of these vehicles a final, inglorious death. Having stripped the constructs of the Adeptus Mechanicus of their connection with the Omnissiah these; now hollow, vessels are ripe for daemonic possession.

By utilising the teachings of their Daemon Primarch Lorgar Aurelian, and their own mastery of the infernal and the diabolic; the Hereteks, Warpsmiths and Daemonancers of the legion work together to restore these shattered hulks into fitting receptacles into which they bind the daemonic essences they find within the fabric of the Warp itself. Trapping these eldritch, uncanny beings into prisons of Adamantium against their wills, forcing them into the servitude of their new masters.

These infernal warmachines are cursed with malign intelligence and are able to operate without a mortal crew at all. However the daemons bound within the chassis of these vehicles rage against their confinement, often the hatches are welded and chained shut - part ritual binding and part physical barrier. Indeed they lash out viciously at any living being that comes near not protected by the correct incantations. Venting plumes of superheated gas to burn intruders or even sprouting tentacles to ensnare the unwary. When pressed into battle these infernal engines are prone to going berzerk on sustaining excessive damage, careening headlong into close quarters rather than staying at range.

In terms of armament the Carrion pattern Predator battle tank is reminiscent of the loadouts of the vehicles used by the legions during the Great Crusade and Horus Heresy. A mighty Ecto-plasmic Destroyer marries the daemonic with the power of an exploding sun as the primary turret weapon and the additional fire support of paired lascannons give the Machina Malefica an arsenal to threaten even the strongest of armoured foes.

Man, that predator is looking great!

I can't believe this thread doesn't have more followers and comments - your stuff looks amazing! I do suggest that when posting pictures from the B&C gallery, to do them in the large format - no-one wants to click on every picture to be able to see it. :tu:

As I've stated in the CSM ETL forum, your predator is inspired! I love the attention to detail everywhere - and the Forgefiend hoof-light is inspired! I do think using a chain that is not jewelers chain, but something more akin to miniature chain with O or 0 shaped links would benefit the entire contraption - jewelers chain imo always breaks the suspension fo disbelief when looking at a miniature. Broadening the tracks and ending them in a mouth-that-bursts-out-of-the-armour is just wicked! I'd love to see this tank in your beautfiul paint scheme!

Thanks Augustus, I've sometimes wondered about the followers and comments thing myself ;-)

I'm pretty pleased with how the predator build came out myself, the alteration to the track guards was quite last minute, there's not much modification there, just trimmed the plasma head of the forge fiend to fit and gs'ed the gaps, then used plasticard to create the burst armour and blended it back to the rest of the tank with more gs and added the detailing with the gs to finish the mouths. So it's all built on top of the normal tracks.

I'll bear what you've said about the chains in mind for future projects, I'm confident that paint will restore a lot of the disbelief. ;-)

Okay, so I just wen through this thread. I like what I see.

Also, I quite like the Predator (as I mentioned in the ETL outpost). That design for the gun is really sweet, and I like the "bumped up" turret mount so the giant cannon can actually fit on the thing.

Definitely stealing that entire idea for any Hellforged Predators I decide to make. :tu:

Edited by Gederas

Thanks Gederas, the gun was a little fiddly as it involved trimming off the arrow on the top of one in such a way that the other one would fit into the space, hence the green stuff to fill the gaps. Other than that it was pretty straightforward, but there was no way to leave the functionality to raise and lower the gun as it was too front heavy. Which was part of why I had to raise the mount g. That and the choices of front hatch.

I'm looking forward to getting some paint on it now.

Finally actually looked at this plog and man, what a treat! That Predator is immensely cool, and I love the paint job on the Maulerfiend as well.

Dragonlover

Glad you stopped by, thanks, I just hope I can paint the Predator quicker than the mauler or I'll fail at ETL again, although since everyone has been so nice about it I'm certainly motivated!

Oooh that is a nice looking pred. :tu:

Yeah dont worry about the ETL man, if you dont finish its no biggie. As long as you have most of the tank painted the ETL has done what it set out to do, it got you painting. *slips into the character of his Chaos Lord* If you dont finish I, Felatious the very Naughty, have eternity to know your flesh.. And Im pretty handy with jump leads on the nipples...

Hehe, thanks StD, I'll get there. I have a few advantages over last time with this one in that I have a single project to work on, and I'm not vowing 40 2 day each cultists plus a 30 day hellbrute and more. I genuinely hope to be able to finish the tank and make a second small vow.

And, for the record I haven't not been painting, I've just been working on necromunda stuff.
