On a rules point of view, in a scenario were two participants both have access to "hammer of wrath" and the same initiative, how does that get resolved? In a game scenario one party would be charging the other, but here can we assume both are charging? And therefore do both deliver the same blow simultaneously? What's the consensus on this?

If you check the first post

The Fight

Contestants start 18" from each other.  To see who goes first a D6 and added the characters Initiative. The model going first will get to move, shoot and assault. The model being assaulted can overwatch at full BS.

However if assault fails the model that overwatched can't shoot on his shooting phase. Combats will be resolved just as a normal 40K combat until one model is left with 0 wounds.

So both don't get to charge.

There is some slight weirdness that whoever actually gets to go first can shoot at 12", then will likely fail a charge if they are infantry, as Kholl Grann did, however a jump pack or bike allows you to be more likely to achieve the charge from the increased manoeuvrability (you still have to pass a 6" charge though!).

Hopefully there are no simultaneous knock outs. That might trigger a refight.

Well met, Sgt Lorenzo. This shall be a fine opportunity to test our mettle!

Well met indeed my friend. May our duel be clean and our honour remain unblemished.

"Loser has to go with Raphael to clean out that Space Hulk"

Thank you for the rule clarification!

On a differnet note, I'm not sure if Im disappointed or impressed by the amount of respect being shown in the pre fight trash talk! Not one person has been referee to as the "son of a greenskin", or "a Tau loving xenophile...". I'm not sure if this is exemplary or worrying!

Captain Zendrenael isnt... Maybe it's that hot headedness and bravado that drew him to captaining the 8th and jump pack assault marines...

And with this in mind he would like to posture that: "Your personal honour role is more besmirched than an Ogryns wash cloth".

Lol yeah, that is my stance for my Blood Revenants, I should not have tried to speak for us all haha.

Nothing wrong with some trash talk , but that's cold...

Who is he trash talking right now?

Lol

Brutus shakes his head in disapproval

I just picture everyone standing around watching and maybe bonding or sharing stories, while Zendrenael is standing off to the side just yelling at the "crowd" and throwing out random insults to no one in particular.

Might want to tone it down or we may think your succumbing to the rage lol

Gallan blinked once, then again, as the optics within his helmet hummed and began capturing data from the scene around him.  He bore the last remaining regalia of his chapter, now all but destroyed by the Great Devourer.  The chapter's finished penance crusade had cost them everything, save their pride.  His artificer armor was not a unified piece of art, but a collection of remembrances to his dead kin.

He was to fight in a competition of the Sanguinian offspring, not to seek out personal glory, but to make known that his chapter had not yet entered the Hall of Heroes.  They were redeemed in the eyes of the Emperor.

His opponent was Cassius Octavius Nero, a much-decorated Chaplain of the Blood Angels.  Cassius was rumored to be over 600 years old, although such longevity seemed impossible to an Astartes of the Lamenters Chapter.

"Well met brother-captain Gallan. May our father Sanguinius guide our hands and favor the best,” Cassius had said to him.  A public offering of welcome, of which Gallan had expected none.

Gallan nodded toward the Chaplain and raised his thunderhammer in salute.  His own weapons would deny him a chance at the first strike, so the Lamenter captain prepared for his opponent’s ferocious assault.

++FIGHT 2++

Captain Gallan of the Lamenters. Wargear: Storm Bolter, Thunderhammer, Storm Shield, Artificier Armor

Cassius Octavius Nero, The Taciturn, Chaplain of the Blood Angels. Wargear: Jump Pack, Inferno Pistol, 2 Re-rolls

As Fayyad helps Kholl Grann out of the Arena, they notice an assembled crowd. Torches have been lit to reveal an ancient stone amphitheatre, partially collapsed, yet somehow a relatively intact relic of the glory days of Baal. Selections of brothers from all companies from a variety of successors, representing the honour guard of their champions line the edges of the arena, standing behind stone balustrades, looking to one point in the arena: Dante, Lord of the Angels looks on from a seat of chiselled alabaster, the eternal rage of Sanguinus’s visage making it hard to look at him for any length of time. A blue armoured librarian, in shadow stands to his left, force halberd planted on the ground, fatigued eyes glowing blue with the exertion of concealing their presence until now.  To his right, stands Castigon, Dante’s voice in this matter. Stepping forwards, Castigons vox grill shrieks with static, then a voice like the sound of crushing gravel emerges:

“Victory to Fayyad of the Sanguine Blade. Well fought both, however these are but the opening stages of the feast. I call upon our brothers from the Lamenters to test their bloodline against the fury and faith of one of our own.” He looks down towards a black figure armoured in the style of a flensed torso. “Cassius represents the Angels”

“And I represent those who lament” A figure in shocking yellow steps forth. I am Galan, and I will secure the honour of my brothers this day” rolling his shoulders, Galan takes his hammer in a two handed grip, as Cassius’s jump pack roars to life…

The concealed storm bolter slung under Galan’s wrist takes the chaplain by surprise, and Galan takes the initiative, unloading a hail of shots into the chaplain, which all connect. Cassius calmly ignores the impacts, his faith in the Emperor and his artificers proof against the bolt rounds.

A close call, but Galan takes the initiative. Galan moves forward. 2 storm bolter shots, both hit, one wound, both saved. Galan makes to charge, but stumbles and fails, while Cassius’s Inferno pistol went wide (reroll failed too). Cassius steps forward, into pistol range, pistol hits, out of rerolls, wounds, storm shield fails! Only one wound is caused. Cassius’s jump pack fires, getting a 9. Galan overwatches: 2 hits, 1 wound, saved. Hammer of wrath wounds, but is saved, normal attacks, 3 hits, 2 wounds, 1 goes through causing a wound on Galan (now down to 1 wound!). Galan’s hammer swings…1 hit, wound, FAIL! 1 wound (Cassius on 1 wound).

With Nero being concussed and Striking at I1, the fight was nearly equal, and went on for a while. Check the spoiler for exact rolls.

Galan, 2 hits, 1 wound, pass save. Cassius, 1 hit, wounds, saved

Galan 1 hit, fail to wound, cassius 1 hit, wound, save

Galan 3 hits, 2 wounds, 2 fails, cassius, 1 hit, fail to wound.

Nero falls.

Heavily battered and bruised, and limping on his leg scorched by the chaplains infernus pistol. Galan swung his hammer with the last of his strength, shattering the Chaplains knee and knocking Cassius’s feet from under him. Dropping the hammer shaft across Cassius’s neck, he spat “yield”. The Chaplians cracked helm, nodded once, and his grip on his pistol slacked. Galan rolled back onto his heels, easing the pressure on Cassius’s throat. Breath rasping, Galan retreated to his preparation chamber to await the next challenge.

Yes, great second battle ... much more entertaining in that it had some back-and-forth rather than the very fast result with Librarian powers. Have to see how that plays out in future battles. I hope Chaplain Pontius Contristratus at least puts up a good fight in battle 3.

+++

Pontius Contristratus, Chaplain of the Angels Sorrowful, watched the battle between the Lamenter captain and Blood Angel chaplain, outwardly impassive. He and his honour guard had purposely kept their distance from the mustard-clad marines thus far at the tourney, and he betrayed no opinion on the fight. It was no matter of shunning the Lamenters. To the contrary, a part of him yearned to clasp hands and speak with them, but for the Honour of the Angels Sorrowful it would not do. He cared little for sullying any reputation by association with the brothers on their penance crusade, but no attention could be brought to the Chapter lest the terrible and rapid deterioration of their condition be suspected. Battle-brothers of the chapter suspected of being secret Lamenters or Lamenter successors fraternizing with actual Lamenters would bring such attention.

With an inward sigh, and a wave of even greater melancholia than the usual unending blackness that penetrated the Angel Sorrowful soul, Pontius turned his gaze from the victorious Captain Galan and his eyes sought out the Librarian he was to face. Even though his face was hidden my his skull helm, still he kept his face impassive. Brother-Librarian Castiel would be a formidable opponent. Even from a distance Pontius could feel, scratching at the back of his mind, the low hum of psychic power.

May my inferno pistol, and relic of the Reclusiam be swifter still, than the harnessed powers of the warp, he thought. He began to prepare himself. Deep below the carefully cultivated and contained sorrow, there simmered the rage of loss and the injustice visited upon Sanguinius. Bit by bit, he let it start to come to the fore. A veteran of the chapter, almost rivalling the antiquity of the Chapter Master, Pontius was a master at keeping the rage just enough in check to avoid tumbling into the madness and bloodlust that so many of his brothers -- whom he led at the head of the Death Company in battle -- fell to.

He moved into the ring, silent as the crypt as his chapter always remained in battle til screams of fury burst from their lips. Silently, he bowed to and saluted Dante, Lord of the parent chapter. Silently, he turned slowly to his opponent and saluted, inclining his head in a respectful gesture. Then silently, took up a fighting crouch and activated the turbines of his jump pack.

Let it begin. VIctor or no, I will show that the Angels Sorrowful are worthy to be called Sons of Sanguinius.
