Moare pictures for the pictures God.

 

I have realised that the Traitors Hate basically gives me everything I want and need. I want to fill out the Favoured of Chaos (Possessed and DP) along with the Terminator Annihilation force and the Raptor Talon. Bolt them onto my bare bones Warband and I will be more than a happy Chaos Lord.

 

So it begins. I realised if I salvage the termies from their role as oblits (need a new solution there) I could make a start on the terminator annihilation force. I will also need a count as Abaddon.

 

I'm going to focus more on building, collecting and gaming. And just try to let painting be something that happens in between.

I got back out of bed when I realised this is what I need to do. It's going to be a long time before he can actually wield the thing (it's so damn heavy!) and I need to finish building him up. Still; this is what dreams are made of.

Thanks DS! Yes he is my favourite too. The Landraider fell on him and broke his axe but I have since repaired it.

 

This dude is the route cause of all my trouble lately.

I've done a little more work to make it seem legit. Really happy with the way the exhaust speakers nest under the horns - totally unplanned btw. Now all I need to do is make it louder

He carries a Blood Angels trophie and a Space Wolves helm. They are the only two other armies I have actually finished, so it seems sentimental. Did I ever show you guys my BA force? I've been meaning to dig the photos up. They had some cool conversions, kinda tame though. They were a bit inspired by Midnight's Flesh Eaters.

 

I'm sure I showed the characters but I will dig the photos up for the sake of procrastination-> it's Monday afternoon after all.

Ok so it's a pretty lame excuse but my laptop keyboard is still not functioning so I can't type from there. Basically Blood Angels are cool. The 5th edition space marine boxes were/are the best, they were just perfect to kitbashing some flavour into the older kits (all ruined now... grumble grumble)

The BA ar really cool man, glad that my Flesh Eaters help inspire a little too (Valek, the big dude is Valek the Terrible :) ) You have loads of armies hidden away, don't you?!

 

Anyways, I am liking especially where you are going with your Noise Marine Lord, he is looking a boss. Also +1 for the power axe/jump pack guy, he is all the awesome!

Just for the record the Jumppack Lord does have a wrist bolter aswell. It was a scout bolt pistol with the cool silencer and I think I gave it a bolter clip for that curve effect. So technically he is a combigun/combatshield/Poweraxe Lord Ripper Man. :P

 

I like it because it's underslung; so it's not too much to believe he could wield all three at once - plus he will be Possessed (maybe)

Hey bio, thanks man, I'll assume you haven't seen my recent update in my Chaos thread - not to fear though - as I'll use this as an excuse to post the pictures here again :)

 

Basically I'm now using smoke launchers to stand in as sound amps or pistons, on some puesdo sound engines which both my bike and Oblits will be rockin

 

Probably easier if people just read the other thread, it has all the words this week.

(I will have some more picture soon, I think I have figured out which version I like the most. (These vehicles bits are all over e-bay which is awesome considering I live on an island on the wrong side of the planet from everyone. Sometimes I open up the search option to "worldwide" and I just like to imagine all the things I could build with such access to all those bits. Next week I will order more greenstuff (for making tubes) and the next week I will order my sonic weapons. I already have some more bikes and troops to keep me busy, so I'm going to finialise the troops with gear and screaming faces.)

Okie dokie fokies, have a little more wip to show. This update would most appropriately be called "Hobby Hurdles" or perhaps "Perceived Probelms and Thier Imaginary Solutions"

 

One thing I wanted to take a moment to mention is greenstuff and sculpting. This will be what really elevates my conversions, and is currently my weakest area of skill in the hobby.

 

For the EC I'm thinking screaming faces/skulls, wings, areas of cloth. This is a nice crossover. The "cloth" is often flayed skin anyway, it's not unusual for a follower of Slaanesh to stretch a face over their armour or to wear someone's face as a mask ;)

 

So it may start as an area of cloth, a tabard, a loincloth, a shoulder pad, a banner, then become cool enough to be a legitimate part of his armour. Along those lines I would like to do bone ribs and ridges and skulls also. I think it will be very easy to get carried away with this and soon cover the whole mini in green.

 

I want to try to steer away from this and just isolate one key area and focus on that. Skulls, screaming faces, stretched jaws; this is where I will make my mark. I've always had the green and the tools and always try my hand at anything. Wolf fur is the best, (you can use it to cover anything, anywhere, at anytime, it's like the duct-tape of Space Wolves - there's nothing you can't fix with a bit of wolf-fur man.)

 

 

and converting Space Wolves taught me so much about building miniatures. But I don't get into Wolf fur or wolf heads. I don't want to be so messy as Papa Nurgle, nor so refined as Vanillas and their cloaks and tabards. The 40k EC seem to strike a nice balance.

 

It will probably not look very good at first but at least the damage will be isolated to one area (that's easily replaced) ie: shoulder pads, shields, backpacks, etc.

(If everyone could just nod and smile and play along that be great for my precious ego)

But that's all happening next week, not this week. This week I have a whole swathe of other dilemmas. Let's take a look and I will ramble some as we go.

I'm really loving my Orator character.

 

Question: do you think I should award him the BT loincloth to further push his priestly look?

 

Perceived problems: the cloth flows in the opposite direction to his cloak.

Solutions: sculpt your own damned loincloth you coward.

Other solutions: remake a new cloak to match the loin cloth.

 

Other thoughts: I could make a press mold of the loincloth which is always fun and probably something I will do for other characters. I think it's cool it include press-made pieces. But sculpting you own details, either cloth or otherwise, is really the nature of the game now.

 

I could also make a press mold of his cloak, though it seems a little large, it might be good practice to repair the inside.

 

Making a full-blown cloak to match the loincloth might not be totally impossible. And would help to elevate even further, and seeing as I have used this cloak on my power armour lord, it would be cool to change it up.

Notes: I probably won't use a doom siren anyway. I could, of course, just buy the official piece and cut it in half and mount the speakers on this guy, or any other character. I will one day, but I'm still having fun here.

Obviously he still needs all the finishing bits. Somehow I thought the engine would be bigger, it seems to get lost under his backpack. I'm not sure if I will build up the back packs of all my bikers but it seems necessary now I have done all the troops.

 

I will probably give the lord the twin/tri-exhaust and use this version for the troops.

The next hobby hurdle, after sculpting; is

Mold making. Or was it scratchbuilding, I'm not sure. Basically; rather than use up all my bits, I would like to either scratchbuild my components, or make two part molds. I think that I will have to seriously re-read Subtle Discord's thread with a fine tooth comb. I want to pause everything here and focus on either sculpting/ scratchbuilding/ or mold making as being the hobby now.

 

And one can never forget painting of course.

I would like to make the hobby more about developing my skill, and I'd like to focus more on single pieces. I think the biker kit and the terminator lord is where I will make my stand. Particularly the bikers I think it would be worthwhile to individualise each one and build them up as much as possible. It doesn't seem right to make them into "troops" I'm having stronger visions of a slowgrow Slaaneshi Biker Cult of Doom wherein a challenge myself to make each one better than the last.

 

Next week I'll talk about Raptors and all of my Imaginary Issues.

I like the BT loincloth better than the chaos one. I think replacing the cape is better, the cape in the deathwing command squad flows in the same direction as the BT loincloth. The bike lord looks great too, I think a hook added to the chain would look good.

Hey doods.

 

I took my Black Legion into the store and got some shots in front of terrain (and with properish lighting. As always the minis were really well received which is a grate motivator for me as they don't get out of the house much. My plan is to take all my painting stuff into the store on Sunday and do my best to finish these guys up and give them the proper photo ceremony they deserve. I will try to get into the habit of going in for a Sunday painting session as it works really well with the rest of my timetable. Plus the dudes at the store are actually pretty rad so it's nice to hang out with like minded individuals.

Well I didn't go to the store as I was too tired and sore from the gym and skateboarding, plus I got sun burnt at the beach. Man it's tough hey.

 

But I did do other stuff that is related and so away we go today.

 

I getting tired and when I'm tired I ramble a lot so I think I will just post the pictures this week.

 

Things will be slow and we will just have to deal with the drip while everything happens. I really am avowed not to buy anything more for myself or the armies until I get past this lastest horde and finish everything up properly.

Okie dokie just threw down a few quick ideas to help me get an idea of size and shape.

 

I built up the lord's bike but I think I'd rather use the idea for plague bikers.

My favourite is the two canisters with the sound vents on top as seen in the rightermost of the group shot. I will probably go ahead with that version for all the dudes. Then I will start in detailing them up a bit.

This version is my favourite. Might pull the old switch-a-roo and build them up as plague marines for awhile and see what ideas that generates. I don't know, could just buy more bikes too.

Plague bikers just doesn't seem right to me, unless they're done up like those armchair-on-wheels bikes you see in the States
