[HH1.0] Legio Custodes Tactica

Sounds like one for the rules section?

Also, is it just me or is there no possible Vexilla + Shield combo, despite the kit itself being set up so you have either Vexilla + Shield or Vexilla + Misericorde blade? I am super not looking forward to cutting up those Sentinel Blade hands to make Vexilla + Sentinal Blade work...

There's actually no rules on the name at the top of an Army List Entry being the name of the unit, at least in the BRB. If the assertion is that that's the case, then literally nothing stops subtitles from being included. Which means that RaW, valdor is a custode in his unit entry, but still needs specification from his trait, hence, special rule=Custode.

Unfortunately no go on the shield for them. They can always take stock power swords though but yeah having made 20 ccw/pistol plastic Marines by cutting hands the other day it's a real pain.

Ugh, that's what I thought. I've flipped through all the entries and was really hoping I missed something. It's extra frustrating for two reasons: the Custodian hands are moulded onto the hilts & trigger/guard with dynamic grips, and I was just about to finish a Vexilla guy before the Weekender with a shield in his left. Good thing I left it off...

I actually prefer not having a shield on the Vexilla carrier, because that'd decrease his combat output by alot. Just have him stand behind his comrade custodians and it's all dandy. Personally I'd probably always go for the power axe, giving some secure AP2 in rounds after the first as well. Also note that it grants an extra attack due to not being specialist weapon like the spear :teehee:

Sure thing, count the subtitles if you wish. However, that only implies that the mentioning of Valdor in his trait is redundant, it doesn't magically disprove everything I've already provided as evidence. Magnus's Sire of the Thousand Sons says the squad he joins is fearless. Which is utterly redundant, because he has the fearless rule standard. Redundancy happens. But should the sub-title be fluff as I regard it as, suddenly the mentioning of Valdor is required. No matter if it is, the rules remain as written.

Honestly, if a Custodian unit has access to Solerite (Solarite? this difference is very confounding for me since I play IF) I'd probably take that over any other non-specialist weapon option they'd have access to since it makes them S10 Ap1 in CC with Master-Crafted.

And since Sol Gloves aren't specialist, you get +1A for 2CCW if it applies.

Agreed. I'm building lots.

Absolutely, but the only squad that can equip their Vexilla carrier with a gauntlet is the Sentinel Squad, the Hetaeron and Custodian guard are stuck with a power weapon or sentinel warblade since both the gauntlet and the vexilla are traded for the spear. In Sentinel Guard squads you should take the gauntlet on the vexilla carrier every single time!

GAH! Well, S6 Power Axes are ...ok...I guess...

It's easy enough for me to steal a plastic Cataphractii fist or a Legatine Axe from some Ultramarines Breacher kits I picked up. Seems like the Sentinel Guard are a much better place for the banner because of the gauntlet option though? Even min-sized at 3 dudes, 2 with shields and 1 with the gauntlet and banner? I've already built most of him so he might as well go somewhere.

I wouldn't underestimate the usefulness of a Vexilla due to the AOE combat bonus. Legio Custodes is at its strongest when it gets to charge and sweep its foe and then move on to its next target, and securing a guaranteed extra wound is incredibly useful for lowering enemy ld. Since they're always free to take I'd go for one + axe (or gauntlet for sentinels) every time. Or well, I'm not totally decided on Hetaeron yet since that'd be giving up a Paragon Blade...

Is anyone else having issues creating an ally list sub 1000 points? Lol

Like I want a dreadspear, jetbikes, custodes, and SoS, but it all comes out to 1000 points. The only thing I hate about allied lists is that you can take either a Custodes tribune or a SoS oblivion centura. If you don't take the latter, you can not take any SoS, but if you don't take the former, you can't utilize the cool Ixion Hale model or your own kitbashed one.

Its easier to fit in sisters cause at least they are cheap. Custodes allies are difficult because 1 squad and an HQ is litterally 700 points.

Yeah for 1000 points I drew up:

HQ

SoS Oblivion Knight Centura

+ Paragon blade, needle pistol

Elites

Achillus-Contemptor dread

+ dreadspear

Troops

Guardian Custodes squad (3)

+ teleport transponders, melta bombs, 1 Pythrite spear

SoS Vigilator squad(5)

+ execution blades

+ Acquisitor DT

Fast Attack

Jetbikes (3)

+ 3 adrathic destructors

I was going to add some Sagittarum Custodes, but it is like, why would I do that when I have adrathic in so many other places? They will be attached to astartes anyway who can deal with mobs quite easily.

Assuming the bikes are released on Friday but either way I almost think I like these better.

Could do some head/arm/weapon swaps.

Thoughts?

Tony thought is that while it fits the old art style better, they will look out of place if your a mechanized list at all. The esthetic is very different but totally up to you.

Leave out the side bolters and swap our the two top guns for lascannon tips and it'd make for a decent corvae laspulser bike, otherwise getting it to match their weapon options will be rough. And I agree that they'd clash with the rest of the aesthetics.
