@Vair - cheers mate, really happy with how its looking so far. I will defo find another BT PF and do something similar on another champ.

@ Traitor - Im really happy with how the DA head with bunny ears has turned out, bit more gs work on the gaps and he's pretty much ready

Package arrived from Nem yesterday, havent had time to open it yet, but really looking forward to seeing what you sent and adding a 4th HB to my havos squad :biggrin.:

It's not masses mate, most of my Chaos stuff was used so it is a small batch of what was left but if you can make use of it then all the better :). I have been helped out in the past by Biohazard and Raztalin so I'm just passing on their goodwill :D

Nemac

It was plenty enough to spark some ideas nem and helped me complete my havoc squad :-) cant thank you enough tbh.

There was an interesting PF which i will use on my next bez squad. The melta and flamer will come in handy for a 2nd havoc squad which ill be able to rotate the weapons out. I have ideas for the PS, but i have other bits to finish first.

Managed to get my bez squad up to 8

These are all roughly put together atm, need to sort mold line, drill barrels and a bit of gs work. But im relatively happy woth how the look. The one on the left in the first pic isnt as good as i wanted, but im kind of stuck with the pose as the legs and torse were glued together about 5 years ago and wont pull apart =/

I think the Powerfist is from the old metal bodied Chaos Space Marines. They came on a sprue with the sword, a chain axe and a plasma pistol that resembles the metal Kharns pistol. Glad you can make use out of it mate :)

The squad is looking great, and those are really interesting bits! Also, where is the havoc body from? I noticed it says "havoc" in the place to pin it to base, but I wasn't aware they ever had models of their own, and it looks like resin, is it from another brand?

@ Nem - ah cool, wondered where they were from.... I look forward to starting the next bez squad :--)

@ Traitor - The bodies are from the GW Havoc squad, they were finecast ones (that shows there age). for finecaste they are not to bad though, just got to get the mold lines sorted :)

Got a bit of conundrum, I got 8 more Bez to make and only 2 more chain axes. And im on a ban off buying anything new unitl I have a decent portion of what i have got built/painted. So, on that note i decided to mess around and try press moulding. For a first attempt i think the Chainaxe turned out pretty well.

med_gallery_95896_12723_956573.jpg

I only did a pure GS mold first and have realised that its to flimsy/flexible, to i will do a 50/50 mix GS:milli put to get a stronger finished product.

These are my 2 molds i used, I think ill remake these up too, but these have helped me realise its not as difficult as i first thought

Any hints of tips would be welcome :-D

Looks good! I've only done a small run of icon molds that I never used so I am not much help there.

There are those reusable molds that you heat up, press the mold, and when you want to make a different one reheat & repeat. I just cannot remember a brand name for the life of me.

@ Nemac - Cheers nem! I think i will use a paper clip, then i can use it as the handle too

@Hushrong - I have seen others use that blue stuff, I will see how this goes first as i am only doing it for 6 chainaxes to start with. If i get the hang of it i will try that blue stuff and try something bigger/ a lot more challenging

Yeah, that blue stuff does look good and I am sure its a life saver in a pinch. I'd like to try and get into it to save me from bitz shopping but I'm too chicken to try it haha.

I remember when I did the greenstuff molds I'd make a little box with legos, fill in half with green stuff, then Vaseline, then the bit and press it in. Then follow up with more Vaseline, then more green stuff and press again for the two half molds I was making. Having it made and pressed in a 'container' so to speak helped show the detail better.

I think you're referring to Instant Mold, and I can really recommend getting hold of some -- even - especially - for smaller projects! I made a few attempts using GS for creating molds, and it seemed like a really iffy, stop gap solution. Then I bought some Instant Mold via one of the big German hobby retailers, and I haven't looked back since: The stuff works like a charm, is very good at holding sharp detail and best of all, it's reusable! I'm only using it for fairly minor detail stuff, though -- an emblem here, a head there. Might still be worth a look for your chainaxes, though ;)

Or you could go the same way I recommended to BubblesMcBub recently: Beat-up, badly painted berzerkers should be obtainable for a song via ebay. They can be in terrible shape, as long as the axes are salvageable ;)

I love this thread and the effective use you make of what are by now almost two decades old miniatures. Great job, Sagentus!

Also, the red you've gone for remind me of the nineties 'red period' by the 'eavy metal team - but gloomier!

@hushrong - That stuff defo looks like the best to get. My bits box is forever growing smaller lol... The Idea with the lego bricks is good too, might give that a go at the wkend while i wait for the blue stuff to arrive.

@kraut - With your additional recomendation I have puit an order in for 8 bricks :-) I Look on eBay regularly but never considered buying batters old figures to get axes, great idea.

@Aug - Cheers Aug, I do the best with what I have got and with so gs anf manipulating I am really happy with how they are turning out. I suppose as my confidence grows its easier to see how to change the old poses into more dynamic/natural ones.

Ive had the bezerkers for nearly 10 years lol. Glad you like the colour scheme, I got some of my inspiration from that period but always wanted my mini's to look more grim/dark and blend in with my vision of the 40k universe :)

The weather has been terrible lately, every time im home fro work it rais and i want to get my bez sprayed lol. So i got my next brute out and the static legs look was just calling to be adjusted. So here are the legs so far (sorry for the poor quality pics) :

@hushrong - cheers mate, I totally agree that they look better reposed. I'm hoping itll have enough of a stride to give the illusion of momentum and a crazed helbrute charging

@Nem - Thanks Nem! shamefully i dont have an extractor fan, plus I have to let the models air out properly because the fumes make the Mrs' feel ill =/

I am looking forward to seeing it. I still have a DV one on sprue that may go under the knife if I get the time. I've reposed a plastic contemptor and a venerable dread, I'll just have to learn to sculpt flesh.

What will he be armed with?

Nice work on the joint for sure! That's a pretty inspired idea, actually - I never reaized that the chaos dreadnought's legs - being fleshy - are easier to repose because of the forgiving nature of greenstuff. Cheers!

@husrong - hopefully this will inspire you to give it a go. I'm hoping to have ti so i can swap out loadouts. But i think if i had to give him 1 loadout then it might be PF/powerscourge, but we'll see what comes out.

@Jeggernut - Cheers Jugger!! I'm waiting for a decent break in the weather to get them sprayed, I hate winter int he UK, so much dam rain. I was surprised how the joint came out, just need to work more on the rest of the body now lol

@Aug - Cheers Aug! Always good to here I inspire someone who inspires me haha. If you can see i double pinned the leg, 1 on the centre of the joint and the second i tried to run so it fit the piston on the back of the leg (saving me moulding a piston from scratch). The only thing i would suggest is maybe not creating so much of an angle because the hip/lower body joint doesnt have as much manuverability with the kit as I wanted. the pistons on the lower back keep hampering the angle i want the body, so ill ave to trim the armor plate on the hip a bit (will get pics tonight/tomorrow to show you what i mean)

  • 2 weeks later...

Been really busy with work lately and not had any hobby time, but i managed to get a pic of what i was describing

gallery_95896_12723_311682.jpg

As you can see the hip armour overlaps the piston on the left sode which pishes the upper body forward more than i would like (it kimda makes him look like hes going in for a rugby tackle lol) So i think i might take a bit off the inside of the hip and a bit off the piston to see if it rectifies it.

I also realised i have no chaos plain shoulder pads or khorne ones for that matter for my next lot of bez. So i did a quick experiment on an old space marine one i had. Its a bit messy but i think itll work on the next 16 (ill tidy this one up when i get time). Going to try carving some khornate symbols too :-D
