Sagentus's Khorne army - Contemptor Dread and DA

Lovely job on the heldrake so far, can't wait to see more!

Those "inverse highlights" look awesome, it must have been a huge deal of work, but the results are certainly stunning!

Managed to get some more of the drake done over the weekend

1) Firstly i painted the base colours:

Red - Mephiston spray

Gold - mournfang brown then runelord brass

Metal - Leadbelcher

2) Then wash with nuln oil

3) Now I pooled nuln oil in the middle of each segment (i did this twice to ensure i got a deep black),

then i went round the edges with mephiston red

4) I then worked out the highest part of each segment and highlighted with wildrider reds

Once that is done its a case of highlighting the gold/metal and general tidying up. got 1 out of 4 wings to stage 4 and

the rest including the claw arms at stage 3.

Whilst I was waiting for washes I started one of my cultists

Bit more tidying up, final highlights and paint the hair/eyes and he's done. then 9 more to paint lol.

NICE! The amount of work for each panel of the heldrake seems like a lot but it is well worth it!

 

The cultist also looks off to a great start. Looking forward to the rest of his ragged band destined for the meat grinder.

Haha and people complain about the amount of trim on the drake... how long did it take all in all?

@Hushrong - cheers mate, i hope to have it done soonish. It has been quite a journey painting it. Then ill get the ragged crew of cultists painted asap.

 

@eld - tbh the painting of the trim took about 3 hours in total because i had to paint it brown first. It is quite a lot of trim to paint but the way ive done it meant i didnt have to be to precise

Finally, the drake is done! The wings were a nightmare to glue back together.

A few touch ups needed where i have glued the wings back together, but for now he is finished :-)

Absolutely brilliant work, very impressive seeing all the work you put into it! What are you planning anything for the base and flying stem?

Cheers Vair! I was thinking of doing a statue or pillor being knocked by the helldrake ... I also saved a gaurdsmen who will be firghtened /in awe of the helforged beast :)

Damn Sagentus! That thing looks great, the effect on the armour panels really shows when you see it all together. Beautiful job mate :tu:

Been a while since i posted anything. Hobby time has been very scarce on the run up to xmas. Made a little headway on the cultists (will get a pic of them asap). Also today i had 10 mins spare and started this:

Got the new first strike over xmas and have had a play with the new nurgle models. The blight launcher arm is impossible to change without destroying it so changed the angle of the head a bit

With the second i thought id go for a different head and back pack

With the champ i aim to swap out the pf, but i realised that the arms of the new dg are massive compaired to the normal csm, so im going to have to get a PM kit or con the dark imperium set out of the miss' for my bday in jan lol

Been messing around making some HB havocs. I only have 3 HBs atm, will have to see if i can get a 4th off ebay

Was also starting work on my 2nd bez squad. Here is the champ

The PF is a BT one which i have calved out the BT insignia and covered with GS to make a khorne symbol. I will also get rid of the DA symbol on his helmet. Still very early wip.

Edit:After looking at these pics i think ill tilt the body forwards a bit more to show a bit more momentum in his charge :-)

@bio - cheers mate. Yeh defo going to angle him forward a bit, had to use a new set of legs and torso because I had already glued these together about 5 years ago and they wont break apart lol.

The pose is much better now mate, it conveys a lot more movement :tu:. Heavy bolter went in the post yesterday mate so should be received soon.

@Nem - Thanks mate, just goes to show even with old kits they can be made to look decent with a bit of work/kitbashing. Thank you again for the HB, cant wait for it to arrive and get a 4th HB to my havoc squad :) 

 

@ DR - cheers mate, I realised that the pic of the PF didnt come out so reuploaded it. Now you can see the Khorne Icon on the PF! :D

Looks a lot better bud. For my Zerkers I was worried the pose would mean they’d break off the base quite easily so I ran a wire through the base into the trailing leg. I made a loop on the bottom of the base as an anchor type deal. Just a suggestion. :)

 

The Khorne icon looks cool on the PF as well :tu:
