Hrafn “hlæja” Hangatyrson, Jarl of þungr vatn

In the great crusade þungr vatn was attached to the 81th Rogue Trader Militant exploration/scouting/pathfinder flotilla. The forces consist of a pack of the VI Legion, a Mechanicum detachment, a small household of Knights and Solar Auxilia directly under Rouge Trader [insert name].

From terra the flotilla made its way east through the galactic core and then north out in the Ghoul stars where it was recalled for the Prospero campaign.

I thought I would chip in with my project before Inferno hits us all This topic will mostly be for my Vlka Fenryka during the Heresy, but I do also have plans for some auxiliary units like Knights and Mechanicum.

Warning: Due to family life I have a very limited time for the hobby so updates can be somewhat infrequent.

It is a pretty awesome kit-bash (something I am not very good at).

 

Using old Kharns arm with the chains is cool, plus the tartaros pads are quite novel as well.

 

Whats the story behind using and Elf/Eldar sword? Did he pick it up after losing his own in battle?

Thanks for all the kind words. I love kit bashing and modelling but I hate painting so the real test will be when I start with that

 

Good spotting b1soul. The text is from Hávamál a collection of different poems, presenting advice for living, proper conduct and wisdom from 9th century and forward. So it’s from the same era as the Viking prayer recorded by Ahmed ibn Fadlan.

Crom's Will, the loincloth and cloak is from Anvil Industry and is really nice for wolfing it up without going overboard and the Bird is from the Elven Attack Chariot (the really old wood elves, really regretting selling that army)

 

dantay_xv, I must admitt to stealing the idea to use tartaros pads from this forum. Can´t remember who it was from but I think it was a Alpha Legion model. And it really screams artificer armour.

 

Yes, the Sword is a war trophy from a fallen Eldar champion. His own was destroyed in the fight and he want to remember one of his most challenging foe by continuing to using it.

As a friendly suggestion, when you start painting then, is highly recommend using Vallejo's (?) Burnt Iron. I think it's from them or another big airbrush paint company like Minatare. Looks really good on wolves I've seen before. It's a nice dark, metallic grey like the FW scheme.

Thank you for the tip. I’m quite a novice when it comes to painting so any advice is welcome.

 

Do you have to airbrush the paint or can you apply it with a brush?

Airbrush paint can be used as normal paint.

Its pretty much the same just thinned for yhe airbrush.

 

Infact I am swapping out a lot ofmy normal paints for air paint

“But these weapons are of the finest craftsmanship, forged on Terra itself! They even work above accepted parameters. What could possibly not be acceptable with them?” The Iron Priest patted the nearest weapon lovingly, canting in binary under his breath.
“They do the murder make too cleanly!“
“I want to look my foes in their eyes when they realize that they lie on the red snow!”
“I need to see the red storm in the wind, feeling the teeth biting and hear the roar of their threads cutting” Buris growling voice got louder as he got more enthusiastic, rising to a roar.
“But that’s not a measurable parameter” spurted the tech adept, taking a step back in the face of Buris agitation. “Clearly you…”
His words trailing of as Buri takes a heavy step forward reaching for the now retreating adept. “NO, they are skit” Buri howls.

“Hold Buri!”
A deep voice cuts through the tense scene. Brokk, first Iron priest under Jarl Hrafn, makes his way over the hangar deck. His iron boots thumping on the floor as he approaches the pair, laying a gauntleted hand on Buri, both restraining and calming him with his presence.
“He is not of the Rout and don’t understand what’s important for a warrior” Brokk goes over to a row of huge cabinets, loads a trolley and wheels it over to Buri.
“Will these better suit your needs?” Brokk ask in a neutral tone.
“Yes” Buri whispers “Wielding those will almost make me feel alive again”. Brock hears a longing in the old warrior’s voice.

“Yes, I think they will” Brokk smiles as his gaze wanders from the two gigantic chain blades on the trolly to the towering form of the Leviathan pattern Siege Dreadnought, almost four times taller than his powerful squat frame.
“Yes, those will do nicely”

I just love the new description of the Wolves dreadnought that we have from Inferno and envision that they still really ache to gut their enemies with a chainsword Much of my inspiration comes from the viking sagas so my vertically challenged Iron Priest is a nod to the dwarf smiths that make all the stuff for the gods. I really liked the Squats and want to perserve them a little longer.

The conversions are outstanding. If you'll allow me one comment on Hrafn,  though, I would not use a chain for his helmet. It is quite terribly impractical and they just maglock them to any part of their ceramite plate anyways.

Hi Grieux, thank you! My first attemt to write a little short for my characters and it felt nice

 

Thanks for the feedback, I thought of just putting it on maglock somewhere but the cloak fills all of the back where I wanted to put it. The chain is also a little nod to 13th and 14th century style where you fasten the great helmet with a chain and throw it on the back.

Wow, really long time since I updated this thread

Since Primaris Marines was launched I got sucked in to true-scaling my small pack. I love the look of MK III armour so I really got inspiration from Grieux´s wip marines where he uses the legs from Ashen Circle to get the right proportions. One big order from FW later i have started true-scaling the pack, starting with the characters, issuing power armour MKIII Grieux-variant

The legs from the Ashen Circle looks really good and any gap in the waist is rally easy to hide with the normal loadout of equipment, grenades and weapons.

With a rough comparison with the Vitruvian man the proportions seems to be in the right ballpark.

I do love modeling and kitbashing and get a ton of inspiration from so many fantastic projects here on B&C. Only thing is that it takes me forever to finish them since I have trouble to stop tinkering just a little more 

 

Next up on the bench is a Praevian Consul with a maniple of Castellax battle automata.

Yes that is one of the AL-head hunter torsos. I´m planning to do a squad of assault marines with sea-dragon theme so those scaled torsos where perfekt The sword (great frostblade) is from the 54mm Inquisitor Covenant.

My Inquisitor Covenant, from the Inquisitor 54mm game, had to donate his sword I will take a better picture of the sword when I get home.

The head is still just blue tacked and the backpack magnetised for a MK II jump pack.
