How do the cataphracti compare in size to the new marines?

I will take a picture when I get home... But to be honest I made them taller by fixing the proportions. I added a spacer between the legs and the torso bits.

If I remember right, my cataphracti are about the same height as a primaris marine, and thus are taller than the new CSM.

I would have to verify. I cut a little piece of plastic and and glued it underneath the torso. I think it was 1/16 inch maybe? I will check when I get home. Also did the same thing for my brother's assault terminators for his Imperial fists. Same effect, same improvement.

Perfect, thanks.

Plan?

Screen the vindicators with the Rhinos and Marines. The terminators characters and cultists all pile into the spartan.

Stomped the eldar, he conceded end of turn 2. He still had a lot of teeth, but not enough. Not fun.

Then they played an Imperial Fists vs Alpha legion CSM match. AL had a lot of forgeworld units because it was built using models from a HH army. Specifically toned it down in areas and it still pulled all the teeth out of the IF. conceded end of turn 2.

Finally I reworked my IW to have less forgeworld tanks, left with a ramshackle list because of lack of good models and units. Played against Imperial Fists. I conceded at end of turn 2. I was losing and was in a bad position. My terminators might have come in and saved the game for me, but it was late and I had work in the morning.

Over all. 8th is a huge mess rules wise. Hope 9th makes things better, but it won't fix the number of rules books our armies were scattered across.

Yeah, CSM just don't compete without our FW units. Its no coincidence CSM players have more FW on average, especially when the models can pull double duty for HH as well as 40k. I wouldn't feel too guilty over your crushing victories- gives the rest of us some hope.

Not much of an update but i felt like talking things out for my own benefit.  please feel free to ask or comment ANYTHING.  it helps me think...

so.  i have had some success with my IW in HH games.

my list has been very tight because of models available.  had a bad ally game because my ally was having a VERY bad day for ALL the reasons.  so not his fault, but we definitely didn't do well because he was VERY far from his A-game.

I have another Ally Game coming up for HH.  my list probably wont change much because i dont have any other models ready, and besides it still has that new army smell.  pretty much started this army in a serious fashion at the start of the Quarantine epoch.

i do need to get around to finishing my Robots...  i have 3 of the Necromunda Ambot models.  i wanted to convert them up and paint them up in IW heraldry for use as Obliterators in 40k and maybe some sort of Robots in HH.  still a but stuck on how to proceed.  mainly i need to replace the heads.

i was thinking of using these heads since they remind me so much of the ABC warrior from Sylvester Stallone's "Judge Dred" Movie.

https://puppetswar.eu/models-and-bits-50/all-bits/heads/cyber-skeleton-heads.html

obvious conversion work required...

my ideas for my IW's Narratively is that prior to the Heresy they were part of the Grand Company that focused on the "forbidden weapons"  the Destroyers, the Phosphex, the Tactical Nukes, etc.  their view on the heresy was that the Mechanicum's decree against Abominable Intelligence was wrong.  they believed that AI could have been used to soak up casualties instead of their own lives being thrown away so callously by the imperium.  and with the warmaster liberating them from their restraints on using Atrocity weapons like all the NBC weapons their Grand Company specialised in, their views on all prohibitions dimmed as well.  so they are slightly more likely to use psykers, tho the emphasis is on the word USE.  and they have actively sought to use AI, including hunting down information and fragments of "Men of Iron" Tech.

so in other words, i want to use robotic miniatures instead of the obliterator miniatures because i don't like the fleshy obliterator miniatures and i have thought up an excuse... lol

its just handy to also know what my "looted Men-of Iron" can be in 30k as well.

anyways...

"finished" my 1st Legion tactical squad.  (i will make some weapon option dudes later for 40k)

there y'all go!

onto painting the next squad...

also.  progress shots of my Truescaled up Rhinos built on m113 kits from Tamiya.  i need to get the 3rd Rhino to this point and then its a bunch of plasticard and greenstuff work.

what do y'all think?

Those new CSM look good how you have done them. That looks pretty challenging work on the rhino's, good luck. I think those heads would definitely stand out on characters/ unit leaders, not sure on doing a whole unit with them though, just my opinion there.

Ok folks.  its been a little while but i have made SOME progress despite what life has thrown my way this year.

This guy will be a Warsmith, or warpsmith, or Hellwright, or whatever i need him to be.  but he is a very Tech mariney HQ for my Iron Warriors however i use him.

and slight progress update on my Rhino upsize project...

Rhino Upsize WIP 7 9 2020

the doors are just sticky tacked on at the moment.  i had a few games with them but i had painted the doors between all my other mucking about.  hope to knock out these rhinos soon.  it's been slow, because i'm preoccupied with other projects.

anyways.  there it is.

Thank you!

so.... Tuesday i decided to paint a spare 5th edition starter set Dreadnought up for my Iron Warriors.... and I have finished.  in that, I will probably return to him and paint some more, but he is absolutely table worthy as is.

ok.  so this has been a surprisingly productive week for me...

Finished up a Librarian/Sorcerer in Terminator armour.  he was quite handy in a couple of 8th ed 40k games. He should still be useful in 9th, and I am sure I will use him in HH/AOD too.

so, i used the Chaos Terminator Lord/Sorcerer kit mostly.  the Sword arm and pauldron are from the new Chaos Terminator kit.  I also added some height in the torso because that always seemed too short anatomically anyways.  the mid section has been cleverly disguised with guitar strings and model railroad chain.

Been having a rough go at life the last few years. Getting back on track now, but been hesitating to work on some things because new HH box incoming.

So... Obviously my IW will be getting a load of reinforcements soon. Haha

I have a bunch of stuff in waiting to build already. So much painting to do.

I'll try to get some work done soon and get back to sharing here folks. Promise.

Got carried away with the legion icons after the 5 dudes with the studs who had their legion heraldry on their right pauldron and forgot they are otherwise typically on the left.  So this breacher has one on both.

Fairly happy with my Legion Assault Destroyer Scheme.  I wanted black pauldrons and the destroyer Icon is only in black on the transfer sheet.  So I decided to freehand the Radiation Trefoil instead.  A bit obscured above.  So here is a pict from earlier. (The jump pack is magnetized so I can use them as Moritat destroyers too)

IMG_20220711_153010716_HDR.thumb.jpg.2e1a52079ed835c2493a9de175ba96a5.jpg

this was before I dirtied up the model.  May have overdone it.  Lol.

Those look great.  In particular, I like the radiation symbol on the shoulder pad - though I think you would get the same effect if you extended the black triangles to the rim, and it would both be easier and look neater.   My only real criticism is what is going on with the blue in the jet pack - its not bright enough to be jet flare, but doesn't really work as exhaust stain either.

Yeah.  I was thinking the same things. The trefoil was originally painted without the extra rings and it didn't look right.  Might try something different on the next one.  I basically never do free hand.  I think it was probably to big to start with tho.  At the very least I think the lines framing the black segments are too thick.

As for the jet exhaust.  I think the main issue is the whole way I approached it.  The area was originally runefang steel.  Then I hit it with technical soulstone blue, but it didn't look right, so I hit it with contrast talassar blue which is a very vivid blue, but I think its too dark also.  Maybe one of the new contrast blues will work better. I've seen a lot of videos of folks using them and they are very bright looking compared to previous contrasts.

How about frostheart with a ring of asurmen or the old drakenhof nightshade (to make it look like it's glowing from the centre)?

I picked up the new Contrasts "frostheart" and "Asurmen" and I think I have "Drakenhof nightshade" or at least I used to have it.

Will be performing some experiments with them soon.  Will do some comparisons with the technical "soulstone blue" and Contrast "Talassar blue"

I'll stick with putting them over "Runefang steel" for this test batch since it's the lightest and brightest metallic I have from the GW range.
