8th Edition & BA

Charlo

I'm disappointed that each codex appears to only be getting three psychic powers in their discipline. Less options is not a good thing. Why not fill out a full table of at least six powers for each codex?

Sanguinary priests being able to heal characters is interesting, but I miss FNP.

Am I missing something, or are furioso dreadnoughts no longer more hardy than regular dreadnoughts?

Our assault marines look to be identical to SM assault marines. Meh.

That might come later when the actual Codexes drop, vice the temporary lists in these Indexes.

Turns out Cataphractii and Tartaros aren't available to us. Studio head Designer straight up lied to me.

Maybe he was already thinking about the Codex for the Blood Angels that is already under development?

My unerstanding is that there are no codexes. Did I miss something?

Yes.  All of the factions will get their codexes, eventually.

Baal Preds look to be pretty hot with the 12 shot AC. Razors I assume will be too.

Looks like a looooot of flavour has been stripped -but looks to be the way it will go with everything until the official dexs release.  I'm happy for now.

FYI, Charlo- from the way the armies are built, it appears you can fit anything with similar keywords into your army - they just wont get the keyword bonuses.

Aye, you can - but then you will lose access to certain things.

Tbh I think everything will be sorted in the codexes, these are just to get everyone playing asap.

I, for one, welcome the new changes. A lot of things are pretty mind blowing and a lot of things are a little confusing but it's important to remember that even with all the leaks we don't have the full picture or a true BA specific ruleset; as Charlo pointed out these Index books are just to get people going right away.

Sanguinary Guard are lookin' mighty fine in this edition.

A quick thing I having a brain fail moment is how the points work.

Are we paying ppm:

Sanguinary guard (bare bones) 22 points

Angelus boltgun 9 points

Encarmine sword 13 points

So we are paying 44 points per model with out death masks or upgraded weapons?

Well.. I'm kind of glad I no longer give two :cusss about rules, I can just paint whatever looks cool and not worry about what happens every time an edition changes, then a codex get revised, then gets immediately pooped on by the next codex.  Life is easier this way folks, just stop playing :)

Looks like we lost our death company chaplains also. That is seriously a bummer. Looks like Hazriel is going to stay demoted...

We do have Chaplains.

Regular chaps yes.

Where are the death company chaps At? I didn't see/find them.

Apparently we don't need them. Besides, DC Chaps are new distinctions to the Chaplain order. We never had them a couple of editions back.

I believe the sanguinary guard are genuinely better now than they were tbh, their guns are actually useful vs MEQ now. They have 2+ saves which means not much forces them to not have a save, the death mask is actually quite brutal if you're close to multiple units taking battle shock tests, the rerolls to hit when near warlord is great and the swords are (finally) not rubbish either! Oh and they have two wounds as well.

Plus the sanguinary guard ancient is cool - leader of the sanguinary guard now actually has rules ;)
